Gosh it turns out that a lot of veterinarians are closed in the afternoons on Saturday and Sundays…read more Not a great time for my dog to be feeling ill. This was the closest emergency hospital to us. I rang to make sure that they would be able to take my pet. It was really hard to get a hold of them on the phone, presumably because it was so busy. They did a very quick intake on who to expect - breed of dog, name, my name, etc. Since it's during Covid, when I showed up they told me to call. When they were ready for me I brought my dog into the lobby for a quick check from the vet tech. After that she was brought into the back to wait for a doctor to see her. We were asked to wait in the car while this happened. All of the remaining consultations would be done via phone except for pick up/drop off of dog. We were probably in the car for around 2 hours without much news. Afterwards we were told that they did some sort of scan and they were able to identify some sort of mass on her. Unfortunately we found out that an ultrasound wouldn't be possible until Monday which is when their radiologist comes in. They offered to keep her overnight for observation but we really just wanted her home with us. This visit of the scan, consultation, drugs administered, and take home drugs came out to around $600. This really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My dog's annual checkup is a little less than this and since this is an emergency visit, not the worst. We did come back for an ultrasound and it was kind of the same in terms of wait. Super long wait! Probably felt extra long because we were anxious to find out how the pup was. The results of the ultrasound were pretty conclusive. We consulted with our own family vet and their recommendations were the same as the emergency vet that we spoke to as well. The emergency vet that we talked to was very patient on the phone and spoke about my dog like she was a family member of mine. It was pretty reassuring in a very frightening situation. I honestly think that they did a good job with the treatment of my dog. They did their due diligence and weren't pushy with any procedures or recommendations.

In a panic I called our Veterinarian and they recommended taking Hana to TVEH. From the moment I called, TVEH was very attentive and professional. We were quickly serviced upon arrival and was kept informed throughout the process of being diagnosed. Unfortunately, Hana had fractured her right tibial. The initial thoughts were to have surgery with a plate and screws needed. They kept her overnight. Needless to say we were stressed and slept very poorly. First thing in the morning the surgeon called and informed that surgery was not needed but a splinter and sedation would heal the leg. Much to our relief. TVEH continued to keep us informed of Hana's progress throughout the day and was release that evening. Everything from check in to release was handled so professionally and with excellent service and attention to detail. I would like to thank everyone at TVEH for looking after our puppy so well.

I took my cat to Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham last weekend after noticing he seemed unwell. We waited for 3-4 hours to be seen (even though the waiting area was empty), which was frustrating, but we understood that it was an emergency clinic. When we were finally seen, we were quoted $4900 for two nights of treatment (enemas, stomach pumping with laxatives, and IV fluids) or $3600 for one night with the same treatment. We were told that our cat had a condition called mega colon, and that this treatment would help get things moving. We opted for the one-night stay. The vet did call us during the stay and said that they had taken an xray and things looked like they were improving. When we picked him up, he was in significantly worse condition than when we dropped him off. His rear end was covered in feces and had mucous hanging from his mouth and all down his chest. I believe the clinic should have made some attempt to help clean him up as we had a scheduled pick up time. There was no vet available at pick-up to tell us how our cat was doing. Considering the amount of money we had paid, you would think the vet could take a moment to let us know how the cat was doing. To make matters worse, they sent us home with two medications but no pain medication, even though it was clear that our cat was in extreme pain. They told us to take him to our regular vet for further care the following day At our regular vet, we were given two options: surgery (which was not guaranteed to resolve the problem permanently and it would likely return quickly again) or to put him down. We were told the impacted feces were too large to pass through the pelvis. We had two xrays at the emergency clinic and were never told this. We decided to put him down, as it was clear he was suffering. Our cat was only 11 years old, and it was a heartbreaking decision to make. What really frustrates us about this experience is that the emergency vet did not clearly communicate how critical his condition was. We were made to believe that the one night treatment would help him and that we were giving him a chance. The lack of transparency and care is something we will never forget. I want others to be aware of our experience and consider the level of communication and care they expect when trusting their pets to an emergency clinic. I wish this situation had been handled differently, and I am devastated by the loss of our cat.

My pug and his eye issues; walked away feeling talked down to like I wasted their time. Even apologized for it, like I enjoy wasting my own time and money. Also had a 250 dollar credit I found out 5 years later. So bizarre, no one could tell me how or why I wasn't updated. I can take rude Vets, I really don't care -health of my dogs over any doctors ego for sure. But the biggest red flag overall was how dirty it was (I was in 4 rooms total, unfortunately zero over covid-19 and I don't even want to imagine what that was like). My Husky walked out a different dog.

Awful Experience - Unprofessional and Irresponsible Service - Avoid VEC's Ophthalmology Department…read more I had an extremely upsetting experience with VEC Animal Hospital, particularly with Nicole (Ophthalmology receptionist) and Morgan, the HR manager. On Monday, May 5, I urgently requested a refill for my pet's critical eye medication, which had run out three days earlier. Nicole never returned my calls that day despite repeated follow-ups. On Tuesday, I was told the medication was essential and ready for pickup. When I arrived, one medication was incorrect, and the other was labeled "for clinic use only." I was promised a corrected and urgent delivery the next morning at no charge--but nothing arrived. On Wednesday, Nicole admitted she hadn't checked her messages, and only arranged for delivery after I paid. Still, the medication never came. I called again that night and canceled the order, deciding to go through my regular vet. Despite this, the medication was delivered Thursday morning--too late. When I spoke to Nicole, she blamed the courier and refused to take any responsibility. I then spoke with Morgan, the HR manager, who was shockingly rude and dismissive. She didn't apologize for the mistake or Nicole's negligent behavior during an emergency, and instead told me to find another facility to care for my "fluff baby." I'm beyond disappointed by this lack of professionalism and empathy. Mishandling critical medication could have seriously harmed my pet. I'll be filing a formal complaint. I do not recommend VEC's Ophthalmology department to anyone who values timely, responsible care.

[Do not go to Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic (CTVRC)]…read more To fellow pet parents: Do not be misled by some positive rating. My experience reveals that this hospital selectively solicits feedback only during "smooth" visits while ignoring cases fraught with issues. I urge you to scroll through their other negative reviews; you will notice a recurring pattern in management's responses: a defensive, gaslighting tone that blames the owner to deflect from their own clinical and communication failures. I am sharing my senior cat's (12.5 years old) journey to warn you. While their surgical skills may be adequate, their post-operative "care" is a transactional nightmare. 1. Management's "Gaslighting" & Refusal of Accountability When my cat suffered a preventable post-op infection due to their vague and insufficient wound-care instructions, the response was not professional concern, but aggressive defensiveness. The manager's response (see attached screenshot) is a masterclass in "victim-blaming." Instead of addressing the lack of guidance, they attempted to weaponize my "attitude" as a concerned owner against me. It took immense pressure to receive even a reluctant apology. They would rather argue for an hour than admit a flaw in their protocol. 2. Aggressive Upselling & Disregard for Quality of Life Despite Milou's advanced age, the specialists pushed for extreme, high-revenue options like full-limb amputation and chemotherapy. They hide behind the "we must list all options" excuse, but the narrative was clearly steered toward the most expensive and aggressive procedures. It felt less like a medical consultation and more like a sales pitch that prioritized their bottom line over a senior animal's peace of mind. 3. The "Emergency" Illusion vs. Reality They claim to have constant emergency availability, but my observations in the waiting room suggest otherwise: Feb 12th: I watched the parents of a shaking dog wait for over three hours--having to eat lunch in the waiting room--only to be told to go home because the facility "lacked availability." Feb 26th: In the room closest to the lobby, I heard a male doctor loudly exclaim "Everything looks bad!" before even closing the door. This performative alarmism seems designed to instill fear and pressure parents into high-cost decisions. 4. Transactional Professionalism Their recurring response during crises was: "This is all we can do." While technically a statement, the dismissive delivery earned this 1-star review. Compared to my local vet (Juno), CTVRC's communication is heartless. They offer "free rechecks" as a funnel to pressure you into unnecessary, billable tests. To the CTVRC Management: I anticipate your canned response: "You could have brought him in for an emergency check, but you chose not to." Let me be clear: seeing how you treated that shaking dog and how you spoke to that dog parent, I knew returning would only feed your revenue stream without benefiting my cat. God and Karma see the truth. Regardless of the polished PR responses you post here, the universe knows whether you truly care for animals or just the transactions they represent. If your intentions are not as you claim, karma will eventually do the work. Summary: Save your money and your pet's dignity. My experience was purely transactional and lacked basic empathy for a senior animal. Read their responses to other 1-star reviews--the blaming the victim style tells you everything you need to know about their ethics.

The nurse who was at front desk immediately knew how to handle the situation and I was very grateful. I was an absolute mess. She was very mindful and made sure I had water to drink, and gave me some time in a silent room to allow me to grieve. She asked if I was comfortable with her temporarily taking my baby away so thát the head vet could properly announce her passing, and lovingly returned her with a large blanket wrapped around her. She then walked me through the process and let me take as much time as possible to address end of life options (as non-clinical as possible). I appreciated that she was so empathetic and very caring. It was what I needed at the moment. A week later I received a very heartfelt card with condolences. I just wanted to write back weeks later to say thank you for your kindness and warmth in a time of crisis. I'm a shell of a woman right now and sometimes I keep replaying the entire experience in my head, but I very much appreciate that my baby was tenderly taken care of even after her death.

We would also like to thank the Triage staff (person who took our Frenchie in and also the one who brought him back out to us) and the help that we received from the Front Desk. We ended up here because we were advised by a friend. We had initially gone to the King Animal Hospital in King City and we were very disappointed with the service that we received. We were told that the wait time would be anywhere between 2-4 hours long. 4 hours came and went at which time we went to the Front Desk to inquire on an estimate to see how much longer the wait would be so we can arrange for a ride home, they told us that we still have a very long wait (that's the answer that we got). When we got there at 7:30 am, it was very quiet. It was just us and another couple with their dog. There was one examination room with a closed door and the rest of them were empty. There are a total of 12 examination rooms. We were not sure if there were other animals in Triage. It did start picking up after 9:00 am and at no time did any emergencies come in between 7:30 and 12:00 pm. We finally decided to leave and go to the Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital instead.

Was looking to establish a long-term relationship respecting the veterinary care of my puppy…read more Signed up for the puppy-care program after carefully reviewing the contractual deliverables. While the veterinary care provided initially was worrying given that an examination was little more than looking at the dog and giving them a treat. The third veterinarian proved to be excellent in providing thorough examinations and providing options/recommendations which best fit my pets needs. Unfortunately while understandably not all items were covered by the puppy-plan the extra items were clearly predatory. Preventative pills were no less that 3+ times more expensive. An x-ray was just shy of $1000. Post operative pain medication which was clearly included in the puppy-plan was quoted as being $250. Referencing the puppy-plan contract which clearly indicated that "post operative" pain medication was included management explained that the "plan" provided pain medication was only covered "after the operation while the dog was still in hospital". After questioning this charge it was reduced by half and management provided a further "complementary" 10% discount. Notwithstanding their level of professional service and fixed cost overheads as is evidenced by their facility I was prepared to pay a reasonable premium for their services. However I cannot recommend this establishment given their predatory practice of leveraging client vulnerability toward maximizing their profits while disregarding their contractual obligations. Don't be fooled by their "Happy Face" posturing...their hand is in your pocket the whole time you are there.

I was told a euthanasia appointment was only $200 on the phone, and that cremation would be about another $100. I make an appointment, we get there, the tech spends the entire time trying to convince me to extend my dog's life and make her suffer more. She won't even look at me. We were told we'd have a small cozy room on the 3rd floor to say our goodbyes in, instead we're shuffled off into yet another exam room, with no table, and plastic chairs, so we'd have to sit on the floor to say goodbye. Thankfully I advocated for myself and my dog for the room we were supposed to get for the procedure. They didn't use enough medicine at first and needed to come back again and give another dose. And then there was no one around anywhere for us to let know they could take her away. They also don't deal with the "body disposal" in house, and supply your contact info to a company called Gateway which harasses and preys on you (7 emails and 3 phone calls within 48 hours of my dog's death, starting within an hour of leaving) . I was also charged a consultation fee (why? I told you guys what the appointment was for) to insult me and make me second guess the kindness decision I was doing for my dog? Great. A paw print and fur trimming is included in the service, and I kept calling back to see when this would be ready to pick up, as they never bothered to call me to tell me when it was ready. Unprofessional to say the least. Predatory, unkind, rude service. Do not recommend. Do not let them give your info to Gateway. Just avoid at all costs.
