I have lived here 8 months.( That Joe who reviewed on Edgewater's page has never lived here.) One star is for location, the second is for the staff who are stellar! Chartwell could be sued for breech of promise as far as I can see. We have no transportation and will never have. After 4 months we got a bus for events only.We do not have a hairdresser or spa treatments available yet. We do not have enough patio furniture to sit on the shaded patio. But the biggest problem is that they will not hire enough staff and they are not willing to give this place the boost it needs to get off the ground. It is a lame duck.
The present staff often works double shifts if someone is sick. Are waitresses usually expected to also wash dishes while serving and to bake as well? They bend over backwards for us but I think it's abuse. One poor girl worked the night shift on the front desk then had to clean rooms all the next day because someone was sick.
Cost is everything. Skim milk is too expensive, bottled water is too expensive, we can't get toast for breakfast even though a resident donated a toaster. but we have butter and jam after much lobbying for it. We also had to beg for cereal, dry oatmeal, milk, (2%) ,fruit. It took about 4 months to accomplish that. The kitchen is on a strict budget and our trained chefs are hog tied as far as we can see.
There should be a house keeper, a maintenance man and a tech to fix all the malfunctioning TVs, phones and answering machines that don't work. But, this all falls to our one maintenance guy and he is overwhelmed solely with structural and equipment faults in this building.
We have formed a Residents Association to deal with all our problems.
If you are thinking of moving here I suggest you wait another year or so until Chartwell lives up to its responsibilities and promises.
All of our problems stem from Upper Management, not anyone who actually works in this building. read more
