Today we took my mother and scattered her ashes at sea. The crew on the White Light was phenomenal. We happened to pick the most beautiful day, and it was a day my family will remember forever. My sister in Colorado chartered the White Light for a memorial cruise, celebrities lives of our late parents. I have seen the boat in the harbor many times and it looked nice! We had friends and relatives fly in from all over for the cruise, then two days before, she got a call from the captain who said they had to cancel because they could no longer operate out of Newport Beach. They didn't help with other arrangements, just cancelled. She had to quickly make other arrangements for us... Today, I was in the harbor, a week later, and there the White Light is, cruising Newport Harbor with a Grouo on board. Truly a wonderful way to send off your loved one. My stepdad passed away 5 months earlier (in January) but, we decided to wait to scatter his ashes until the weather was better... an it was perfect. We had a gorgeous day, not to hot or cold. Captain Brandon and Mate Brandon, were very polite, friendly and respectful. We had 28 passengers and there was more than enough room for everyone to find places to sit. I took lots of photos of inside the boat (to post). When looking up on Yelp, I didn't know how many areas there was to sit or walk around for "less mobile or elderly" passengers. There is an area on the bow (outside), inside the cabin are a couple of areas. One on the stern and another area about 5 stairs down. Also, a climb up a ladder to the bridge of the boat, where 15 maximum passengers can be ( outside) on the top deck with Captain Brandon, whom was very friendly and answered any of our questions. It takes about 25-30 minutes to out into the breakwater (pass the bay into the ocean) and then maybe 15 more minutes (1 1/2 miles out) before the ceremony. We all went to the bow (front of the boat). Brandon asked if anyone wanted to say anything about "John", stories, memories, etc. He gave us as much time as we needed. Afterward he said a beautiful poem and he passed out the roses to each person. Then Brandon and my oldest son bent down and slipped the ashes into the ocean with rose petals. You could keep or throw "your" rose in the water, everyone tossed their rose after the ashes. We then circled the area about 3-4 times before heading back in. It was a very peaceful experience to say goodbye. This is the company that The Omega Society uses and I have to say that it was seamless from start to finish. read more

A bit of background: My boss came to me with a request: Christmas party, boat, Newport Beach, dinner and open bar. I immediately thought we needed a charter for the Newport Beach Parade of Lights. We scattered my father's ashes earlier this morning. This is the 3rd time in 10 years I've been a part of such a ceremony and the White Light and its crew are the best I've experienced. I first contacted them via email. Their responses (from Wes) were quick, clear and professional. We confirmed a day and time. Directions and parking instructions were clear. They were ready upon our (15 minute early) arrival. The boat is large and felt very safe (better than previous boats I've experienced for ash scattering). The crew were professional and I could tell they were very experienced in running a boat as well as a scattering of ashes ceremony. They were there when we needed and gave us plenty of room to have our ceremony. They offered coffee, sodas, water. I couldn't be any happier with their professionalism and preparedness. These guys were fantastic and if you're looking for a cozy and well-kept yacht then look no further. I joined one of my good friends for her work party of about 20 individuals for a 3 hour cruise of the Harbor. We climbed the ladder and enjoyed the views, mingled with champagne, and enjoyed the catering throughout the night. Chris was nice enough to give us information about the different homes we spotted, trivia about yachts and maintaining them, and was always making sure everyone was content. Great guy. Deanna was also a sweetheart and she was super quick and kind and like the other crew always had a constant cheery attitude. Definitely don't charter with this boat! I chartered through Dick Simon Yachts for a memorial cruise that was to be held on July 21st @ 5:30pm to celebrate the lives of my parents and a few days before the cruise I was told (verbatim), "The owner of the boat just texted me to inform me they are no longer allowed to board his boat for charters, in Newport, effect immediately. He has been in the Newport Harbor for 30 years and has never come across this." Someone is a dirty little liar, either Dick Simon Yachts or the owner of the boat. It all sounded fishy to me in the email that I received from Dick Simon and I doubted that any captain would be kicked out of a harbor on a spur of the moment decision. In any case, I will never work with Dick Simon Yachts and I highly discourage anyone from booking the White Light. read more

What a beautiful yacht! We chartered this vessel though omega society to take our loved ones ashes to sea. It was a beautiful celebration. It was a dignified service with a rose for all. It was a beautiful day. Our guests found several different areas of the boat to hang out. Some were afraid of getting sea sick but did fine. It was amazing how the staff remained in the background unless needed. Captain Jeff was very helpful and accommodating. We were able to bring snacks and drinks aboard and the galley was perfect to set things up. Everyone enjoyed the boat ride and the simple ceremony with the birds overhead and the sea lions waving as we passed. Really. That is what it looked like! read more

I couldn't have been more pleased with the crew and services that Charter White Light provided for the scattering of my husband's ashes. The weather even cooperated. Rain was forecast, but never appeared. I had been reassured that there would be plenty of room inside the yacht if it did rain. There were 20 of us, from small children to seniors. Some folks stayed indoors and others enjoyed the ocean air. The first mate could not have been more accommodating. He was friendly, yet sensitive to the occasion. Once out to sea, everyone gathered on deck for the scattering. My two sons and I each took part, and it was planned out very well. We chartered White Light for a long weekend trip to Catalina Island, and we are spoiled for life now because of it! She's about 70' long, and is equipped with stabilizers for a smooth passage to Avalon. She has every amenity you would want at home (washer/dryer, dishwasher, jacuzzi tub, wine frige, speaker system you can hook up your mobile phone to) and some you didn't even realize you were missing out on (commercial quality soda pop dispenser!) There are 3 different seating areas with comfy sofas (fly bridge, main bridge, and interior salon), so even if the weather doesn't cooperate there is somewhere to hang out and relax. There are 8 dedicated berths (2 in owners stateroom, 2 in guest stateroom, 2 bunks in map room/office, and 2 in the crew quarters. Then there are many other areas you could sleep like the sofas in all 3 salons, or you can fold down the table in the mess to create space for 2 children. There are also 3 heads, so your group will be very comfortable. Captain Wes was so kind and charming, and he really works hard to make your trip a lifetime favorite. White Light also has its own dinghy, so you can avoid paying for a water taxi. We found the white light through the Omega Society and could not be happier with the results. The crew was very nice and professional. The boat itself was beautiful and comfortable. There were drinks provided and indoor seating. We spread my grandmas ashes and they played beautiful music for us. The ashes were in a nice white basket and we were all given a white rose to drop in the ocean with the ashes. It was so beautiful and a peaceful, sweet experience.
