Our school is a Title 1 school with all students receiving free lunch and breakfast. I remember Vicki Heistand as a stellar educator, always showing how creative and "in touch" she was with her students. She was an excellent coworker who was always willing to share her expertise with fellow staff members. Vicki was and still is a wonderful communicator with parents. Parents used to to seek her guidance as to how they could best help their children both academically and emotionally. The other day I was at Staples and mentioned I taught at Waltersville School. The cashier went through all the teachers she had and when she came to Vicki Heistand's name she had this huge smile on her face and said she was her favorite teacher of all! That is a testament of how smart, hard working, qualified, and inspirational she is in her field. I would have absolutely no reservation in having Vicki Heistand determine and implement my child's educational plan tutoring plan.

I was nervous at first to send our kids back thinking it would be less fun with all the new rules in place and I worried my kid would hate wearing a mask all day (They do hate it but wear it with no complaints). Anyway, the school has got it together. It's been such a different experience from the schools we came from (also 9/10 schools east bay). I felt confident they were well taken care of and was always assured of it given the constant communication and updates of schools happenings. Aside from being well organized and having excellent communication, the staff is SUPER friendly. From the office to the home teachers to security and to the building maintenance that sanitizes the school down - EVERYONE was so nice! Anyway, this week they went back to school full time (HOORAY!) my kids home teacher was literally in tears seeing all her students together and that really moved me. This school genuinely cares about your children and their well being. Also plus that the campus is nice clean and has that nice Lake view - hence the name.

In the last…read moretwo months my 4 year old son (one of the youngest in the class) came home with 4 visible injuries and only one incident was reported to me. Whenever I brought the injuries to the teachers attention I am constantly told they can't always keep their eye on everyone. In the last two months my son has been: *punched in the face twice *scratched in the face drawing blood *pushed causing him to fall and came home with his entire side of face scraped from forehead to chin *multiple scratches on his forearm Earlier this year I had a conversation with the teachers that another child had tried choking my son. My son even enacted the event and told me he couldn't breathe. This behavior was learned at school and I should have pulled him out then. My son doesn't have his own tablet, phone or unsupervised tv time. We do not even own video games. In the same month we pulled our son out and another family pulled their son as well. While I am not certain for that families reason I was told at one point children were taunting/teasing him. I'm disappointed in myself for not pulling my son out of this school earlier.

The only reason I can't give it the 5 stars is because there is no before care program offered.

It is small and in a country setting, there is lots of land to run, play climb and get dirty, and has lots of natural play, climbing areas with a plethora of materials to explore. The teachers are exceptionally qualified, and in tune with each individual child and their developmental needs. They are a true Montessori school. Every time I pick up my son he has learned so many new things. He is talking more, is happy, asks to come back, and is becoming a more independent, self sufficient, confident, well rounded child. Before attending this school we attended two other preschools (one was a co-op, and the other was a day care/ preschool). Neither of those programs were remotely as high of caliber as The Children's House. This school has really become a blessing for us as it provides an incredible amount of enrichment and exploration with individual attention and higher standards for our child. My only regret is not starting with children's house sooner!

Even though we all loved the first school, they still helped her explore other options and she was accepted at many other schools. My second child is doing both college planning and tutoring and they've been so flexible with schedule, switching subjects, offer discounts to returning students/families, and my child has worked well with all the tutors to whom they've been assigned (2nd child is very shy and has a hard time asking for help, hence the need for tutoring). Communication with staff is excellent, I always feel informed and they're super responsive. Their services are very comprehensive--tutoring for SAT/ACT, summer refreshers, regular subject tutoring, and college planning.
