So it was a total of 3 of us I love doing escape rooms as I'm a huge board game/puzzle/trivia lover We chose this particular theme because it was the hardest one to do and we wanted to go all out on the experience even if we failed we wanted the full escape room challenge You are helped with tips along the way or reminders of what you may have been doing just not all the way as as time goes by and you start to solve the puzzles or the locks you get more and more into it we finished with 18 seconds left!! and it was so much fun!! read more

Reservations are recommended but they do offer walk in services. We were able to choose the time best fit for our group. You have an hour to "escape" the room. We unfortunately did not make it out lol Bathrooms are like half a mile from the escape room in the building lol so hurry up. If you leave for the bathroom you're allowed back in the room. About $35 per person on a Friday evening They also validate your parking. I parked in the garage next to Discovery Zone / 711. That in itself was like $28 total after 2 hours. When I went back to get my ticket validated, about 1.5 hours after we left, I ended up Not having to pay for parking. who knows, all good for me! lol read more

I love this area and have done several escape rooms in my life that I loved but this one wasn't it. It was very dark in the room and hard to see all of the 20 number locks in dark corners and none of the puzzles were fun or made sense really. $105 for 2 people was the most expensive and most disappointing escape room I've ever did. I did the gangster room and was thinking I would maybe give the others a chance but I'm thinking they would just be the same outcome. We were visiting for a conference and my bosslady and I wanted to do an escape room since we are addicts. It was between this one and another in the area. The other was closed the day we had in mind and Charm City got us in right away. I was SO impressed with the communication for scheduling. We arrived and MAN is this in a cool neighborhood. What a fantastic venue... other than one thing and that is that while we were in the actual room live music started next door that was not only distracting but also annoying. It was good music too -- I just wanted to focus. I digress -- anyway -- we arrived and the location is quite cool --- inside it is very escape room motif and I think that is because of the actual old building it is in which is even more cool. The bathroom is upstairs and what seemed like 3 more offices away though so be prepared for that ha ha ha... We did the Spy room -- and HOLY fun... it was truly a fun experience. My friend and I had three total strangers join us... I was a bit worried as I had only done these with friends before but it was a blast. AND WE ESCAPED with over 10 minutes left... ya boyyeeeeee... The gals that greeted us and guided us in the journey were awesome. The clues were fantastic and not just the same as all others. My friends and I did the Spy Room, so I can only really speak to that one. The max number of people for that room was eight, and we had eight people. However, it felt like there wasn't enough for eight people to do, so some of us were standing around for a bit while other people worked on puzzles. The clues were interesting and for the most part made sense, but there were two or three that seemed a little /too/ out-of-the-box to really make sense. It was still an overall fun experience, but compared to other escape rooms that I've been to, it's definitely not at the top of the list. Additionally, when the person in charge of our room came to let us out, she was unfriendly and very short with us. The only reason I can think of to explain this is that we moved the couch. However, a message told us to move the couch back and we did. Also, we were never told to not move the couch. This, combined with the lackluster room, will ensure that I won't be trying another one of this company's rooms again. read more

This place is AMAZING! I'm so glad we are moving to a different place in time for entertainment. Being tired of movies and going out to eat for date night, I was excited to learn about this venue. After browsing many options, we selected the DARK CARNIVAL ROOM. When we first entered we had to wait for other members to show up because it is a group event. I'm not going to lie, at first I was slightly annoyed at having to play with people I didn't know but that quickly went out the window once the game began. Although the rooms are small it's managed very well and the clues are very entertaining. After awhile you'll be glad you are you are not alone and eager to accept any and all help from everyone playing. This game brings back what has long been forgotten. This is my 5th or 6th escape room and I enjoyed the clues at Charm City quite a bit. We did the Railroad game and we got to work with a clear objective and clever but generally unambiguous clues. It is perhaps a medium-difficulty escape room for intermediate players. My only complaint would be that a couple of clues in the room were a bit worn from use and should be replaced soon. In town for a conference and four of us decided to do an escape room. Great that it's close to the inner harbor area for us tourists. Will say the staff seemed really unprofessional and clueless. One of the workers had her toddler there and they seemed more focused on him than their customers. We did the circus room. Quite difficult!! Loved that there was a variety of locks/puzzles! The staff was nice and the concept is great (Poe Room, get it?) but the puzzles were a bit unrealistic. The staff explained how to find the answers afterwards which I did appreciate but after they did so I was annoyed at how complex they were. Some answers had a point but would take several tries to work out the combinations which makes it a guessing game. I've done other escape rooms and found them more enjoyable because there was at least a rhyme or reason to the puzzles. I was glad the staff was able to aid us through the room a bit so we wouldn't be stuck in the same part the whole time but it was a bit discouraging. Overall, I'm not sure I'd recommend it. However, there is a lot to do real close to the clue room so at least you have options. read more

I have done two rooms in this establishment: The Railroad Room and the Circus rooms. My fiancé and I did the first together. The clues were challenging but doable and we were able to escape with 4 minutes to go. It was very enjoyable. The clues were well-thought out and there was a lot of variety. The second was with a group of 8, where no one knew each other ahead of time. It is always more challenging to work with strangers but we all managed to make it work. I had the opportunity to visit tonight with a group of 18 colleagues. I am generally not a fan of "teambuilding" activities but needed a fun and interactive way to force two groups of teachers who work for the same company in different states to get to know each other. This was perfect as we could divide into two teams. The Poe room was a blast! Very well thought out and challenging but a great way to get to know one another and laugh in the process. The people here are so nice and passionate about what they do! I was a bit hesitant because it is pricey, but it was such a memorable experience and worth it. I did it with 2 coworkers, and it was amazing team bonding. The Clue Room people watch you (remotely) as you go through and are thoughtful and personalized with giving you clues. They "debriefed" with us after, and I felt how they were rooting for us the whole time and how they were passionate about the room's design. Took my daughter and her friends to be challenged by Charm City Clue room on her 16th birthday and they had a great time! They are all super smart ladies and were really engaged the whole time. They got lucky as one of them had a brilliant idea and it paid off by solving a very difficult clue early on - I'll say this, visitors need to pay CLOSE attention to details. They ended up catching the double agent in the brand new Spy Room with very little time to spare. The girls thought it was a great activity and want to do another escape room challenge. Sean was very nice to deal with and helped me out by holding the room while we waited for RSVPs for the party - he was also able to accommodate a slightly larger group (we had 10). Shawn and his assistant keep tabs on how the room is doing and if the group is on the right track but stuck, they will offer a clue but by no means are they giving away answers. The success rates of the 2 older rooms (40 - 45%) give an indication these are no walk in the park...but not impossible either. The designers of these rooms are very clever. Charm City Clue Room is a reasonably new addition to what seems to be a very old (and very cool) space in the "Power Plant Live" area near the Inner Harbor. The space adjacent to them is still undergoing renovation and the Clue Room has a just-moved-in air to it. I have some suggestions as they continue to mature (like an offering of a "professional" printed picture, professionally made signs for the group to hold whether they succeeded or failed specific for each room, maybe props to hold / wear for the picture that specific to each room (like dark shades and trench coats for the spy room, and a bottle of Cognac and a stuffed Raven for the Poe room) but I'm sure details like that will come with time. This is my third escape room - and I was pleasantly surprised with what the Edgar Allen Poe room at to offer. It was both difficult enough to be entertaining, yet had that slap your head "I should have gotten that sooner" feeling as you solved (or failed to solve) each item. They have clues, tricks, puzzles that are beyond the standard "clue/lock" combination, and even in the clue/lock combination situations they managed to add a few layers to some of them to keep things interesting. If you've never done a clue room before, Charm City Clue Room seems like a great place to start. If you've done them before, this is a great example and adds in historical stories to boot. Charm City Clue Room had the neat feature of giving you hints over a video screen if you get caught. As time started running out, they started giving more knowing we were never going to be successful (bad organization in the second half of the puzzle) - so they were spot on with both interesting clues that were well timed and not overly obvious. Okay - for the first timers - what is a "clue room" or "escape room" or "puzzle room" (used interchangeably often). You pay around $20-40 per person (ranges geographically). A guide takes you up to a room and gives you the locations instructions, a back story and gets you into the mood. The room will be modeled after a theme (edgar allen poe's study, an insane asylum, a room in an art museum) and you will have a goal (steal artwork, escape the room) to do in a set amount of time (an hour usually). Working as a team, you will uncover clues that will help you to unlock more clues until you finally solve (or fail to solve) the final puzzle (usually letting you out of the room.) If you get stuck, they have some sort of mechanism (speakers, walkie-talkie, tv) to give you clues to get your team moving again. Basic math and reading skills are required - but otherwise no special knowledge or skills are needed to complete the puzzles. Sure, good leadership, organization, and memory are helpful to be successful. If you're worried about being locked in a room, know that every reputable escape room has some sort of mechanism to communicate with the organizers. Some leave a door unlocked, others have video and audio monitors so they can let you out as soon as you ask. One recommendation - make sure you have time after the room to hang out with your team and talk about the room. Your adrenaline will be going, and mind reeling during the room, so you probably missed a large chunk of the clues. You will want to get a beer and relax for an hour. I had spent weeks reading reviews and connecting with several escape rooms within driving distance and decided on this one after awesome help from Sean Murphy, the owner. He and his crew are SO invested in making this a super experience and from start to finish it was great for all of us. They give just enough help but not too much... and whether you escape or not in the 60 minutes, you'll be guaranteed to have had an awesome time. We can't wait to go back and try the other rooms at this location (we did the Spy Room, although we didn't escape in time!)-- and would highly recommend the Charm City Clue Room for your group. What a great time! My wife and I were in town on a house hunting excursion and stopped by the Power Plant for some drinks. While walking around, we stumbled by the Charm City Clue Room and popped in to find the owners setting up for their opening the next day. My wife quickly decided we would be doing the Poe room and signed us up for the 10am block while sitting at the bar. They do suggest a group for the best experience but we figured it would make things a bit more challenging by ourselves. Besides, we didn't want our waitress to think we were some kind of kinky weirdos! When we showed up at 9:30 on Saturday morning, the owners were putting the finishing touches on things and then came down to welcome us and give us the deets on our clue room adventure. They were very friendly and helpful, demonstrating the different lock mechanisms and providing other details we would need while in the clue room. I won't share any of the details, but we had a great time and the experience was worthwhile. Sadly, we didn't finish all of the clues in time. The clue room team was kind enough to show us where we went off the rails and just how close we were to completing the challenge. (Ugh! Soooo close!) Hope y'all have fun too! read more

Went here with the girlfriend today and played the "Constellation" room. It was a neat low-key, low-tech room that had some good vibes. We liked the theme, everyone was friendly and the building was clean. As for the room itself, well someone put one of the locks on backwards when resetting the room and that hung us up for a good 5 minutes that we didn't get back on our clock, and I do wish that the Gamemaster would've helped us over a wall during the last 12-15 minutes. It's no fun getting hung up for that long of a time on one clue (right before the last few all inside the last chest to open). The hints were pretty vague and I like solving puzzles, but there's only so much two brains can accomplish before needing a hint. It was a great experience from first getting there through solving the room and the prompting to help us along. The room was fun and clever but also clean and well maintained. Charm City Clue Room was such a FUN activity on a rainy day! We had a group of 8 go to the Poe room and it was such a blast! The owner is so nice and very accommodating. He is passionate about his job and wants you to have the best time possible. You enter a room with some furniture and different objects. From there you need to find your first clue and go from there. There is a screen with a countdown (you get an hour) and someone can watch you and give you hints to help you get out of the room. It was much more challenging than I thought and between the 8 of us, we were able to escape! I would definitely suggest this to anyone visiting Baltimore or just looking for something fun to do! read more

Probably my worst escape room experience because the staff were so rude and unhelpful. The Spy Room clues were well done and very creative, but whenever we were stuck on a step for 5-10 minutes they ignored our requests for help even though we were supposed to have "unlimited clues." When the hour was up, the staff said it was our fault for trying doing too many attempts on one of the lock boxes and scolded the kids in our group! It was really rude and ruined the experience for us unfortunately. read more

The room was super fun and exciting, and the "game master" can give you hints via the television screen to keep the game going if you get stuck, or even just need help opening a lock you have already solved. Nothing but great things to say about this place. I had never heard of an escape room, but when it was mentioned, it sounded intriguing. My group showed up super late on a week night, but were treated like the first group that walked in the door. Being in Baltimore, we opted for the Edgar Allan Poe room, where he left "clues" as to what caused his death. As a group, we searched the room and worked together to find hints/clues to solve the mystery, and "escape" the room. It was challenging, exciting, and suspenseful! A group of 8 of us went for a friend's birthday (Poe Rom) and had a good time. We were able to escape and to echo a previous review, the employees do keep an eye on the group and give clues when needed. My biggest critique is that there seemed to be at least one clue at the beginning that I'm not sure how anyone would know the answer WITHOUT "help" from the employees and/or knowing Poe and his family history. We appreciated the help (we ended up escaping), but it would have been nice to have the ability to figure it out on our own. Although, maybe it's geared towards younger clientele/families. It was a good time though, just makes me want to try one of the escape rooms in DC for a more grown up/possibly more difficult adventure. read more

I never leave bad reviews but this is certainly warranting of an exception. We were running late and called to see if that would be an issue and were told by staff it was not going to be an issue at all and they would see us soon. They were nice on the phone. Once we arrived, it was like night and day how rude and nasty they were. We arrive 5 minutes after the game start and they said it already started (even though there were 0 bookings after us and even though we were literally told the EXACT opposite on the phone). They refused to refund us and then yelled when i asked for documentation that they had stared the time early. The staff was rude, yelled, switched stories, and exhibited absolutely appalling behavior. I've never in my life encountered such horrible treatment let alone by a business in dire need of customers. There are better businesses to support in these hard times. Also, the business's response to negative feedback we left was defensive (and also contains a false and incomplete account of what happen each). You'd think a business who cares about its customers would want to right wrongs and apologize for rude and unacceptable treatment, but their response to the situation/negative reviews is evidence of which side you can believe. I echo the praise from other reviewers. We held my son's 10th birthday party at the Charm City Clue Room, and everybody had a blast! I highly recommend Charm City Clue Room to children and adults alike for parties or a novel outing. My son and his friends, with one adult, did the new Spy Jr. room (a slightly simplified version of the usual spy room), while other teen and adult family members did the B & O room. Both groups loved the activity. The atmospheric room decor, the thrill of the quest, and the time deadline all contributed to an immersive experience. My mother said she felt as though we'd stepped into a Nancy Drew book. The problem-solving was truly hands-on -- the kids loved being able to touch and rummage through everything in the room in pursuit of clues. Many of the puzzles were multi-step, and our group cheered each time we completed the final step to a puzzle, unlocking the next challenge. This truly was a team effort, with three generations of family collaborating and (cliched but true) doing something together that none of us could have done alone. We also appreciated the extra hints from the staff, which were at just the right level to keep us thinking -- the hints didn't give too much away, nor did we get overly frustrated. Sean, the owner, was extremely helpful at every step of the planning process -- he was responsive, courteous, and flexible -- as well as during the party itself. We capped off the party with pizza (from the always-delicious Joe Squared two doors down) and cake. The kids all left raving about the experience, and my son says he wants to have his 11th birthday party there too -- though we hope we'll be back sooner! p.s.
