The company scheduled at their convenience (11:00 a.m.) saying that that is when they'd be in the area. I made myself available. They left a message at 8:30 the day of the estimate to say that another client in my area wanted an estimate. They would see me around 4:00. I didn't hear the phone ring and didn't get the message, nor did I confirm that this was okay with me. I found out when I called at noon to find out why they weren't here yet. It took 2 days to get the estimate by email. I emailed immediately to accept the offer and schedule. It took 2 days for them to call me to schedule. This was during the 10 straight days of rain and they had had a lot of cancellations. Again, they wanted to work me in when it was convenient for them. I said, "Fine, as long as you give me some lead time so that I know to be here." The scheduler said she thought someone could come out in 2 days- Friday- (since I have an overhang and they could work where it was dry). She'd call and let me know for sure. My front door glass is shattered. It's a priority. I waited. Nobody called. Nobody came. Okay, cool. It wasn't a sure thing, just a possibility. My appointment was for the next business day (Monday). No call. No show. I called and was told that I was not on the schedule, there was no estimate for me on file, and the office lady had no record of my ever calling. She said she'd call the estimator and call me back with an update. Four and a half hours later I get a call from the office (different person) saying that *I* dropped the ball. She said she called to set up an appointment and reached no one so she left a message and said I didn't call back. That is completely false. I SPOKE to her, said they could come if they had a cancellation Friday, and set up an appointment for Monday at 9:00 a.m. if that didn't happen. Finally, I just bought the glass from them (because I didn't know what I needed) for $200. (Once I knew what I needed, I found it online for $40- $60 less). It took me 20 minutes to get the old glass out and 10 minutes to reinstall it. The price they gave me was $600, so if the door was $200 and let's say they charged me an over-inflated $100 for drive time, that leaves $300. At half an hour of work (or less for someone who knows what they are doing), that's $600 per hour for labor! I have never encountered any business that is as disorganized as this one. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. I took off 3 days of work for this so far. Total waste of time. Worst experience ever. read more

I ordered a large picture frame glass which was wrapped very poorly for me to take home in my car, resulting in a crack in the glass and a cut on my hand. When I called to complain about the crack, which was not visible at pick up, I received a perfunctory call from a grumpy manager who read me the no fault after pick up policy posted at the desk. Not the response I expect from an owner - operated business or anyone I would deal with in future. No thank you. read more

I had used Charlottesville Glass to replace a number of window screens and was happy with their efforts. I noted they also did glass shower doors so when time came to renovate our bathrooms, I went to them for the doors and enclosures. Bad decision! The gentleman who "measured" the doors did not measure correctly hence the enclosure in the master bath doesn't fit where it should. It's functional but not correct.. And he measured TWICE.. Two trips.! AND he came when the renovations contractor was here so he had the ability to discuss the correct placement! The guys who did the installation were less than enthusiastic. They did not put the required vinyl strip between the wall and the glass so, instead, left huge and unsightly beads of silicone sealant. After installation, I noticed a white power around the clips that hold the panels to the shower sill. The same installation team came back and resealed but one could tell they were not happy. Based on this experience and wanting to get the unsightly silicone corrected, I contacted another glass company who sent their team out to see what they could do to help. Nothing on the measurements short of tearing the doors down and starting over which would be very expensive. They did, however, remove the terrible silicone job and did the job RIGHT at an additional expense. I am not sure what happened to Cville Glass but I would suggest you shop around before making a purchase for glass doors.. read more

The women who work in the front office are so unfriendly, I always dread going in to Charlottesville Glass and Mirror. They seem to delight in making it as as difficult as possible to schedule or do anything. They told me one thing about an appointment and then changed it and then were incredibly unhelpful. I needed two mirrors glued to the wall, it took about 20 minutes for two of the workers (I had to provide my own supplies they had forgotten tape) and it cost $172.00. Old Charlottesville contractors may do well with this place but busy working women/moms stay away. Feels like 1950s bad service. read more

My wife and I found CG&M through a referral. We've wanted to replace the single pane windows on our home for quite a while. The owner, Dwight, personally came to our home, talked us through the options without a pressure sales job and even offered to come by to show me how to install (considering diy install). We ended up making a small purchase for which Dwight again returned to our home to measure so I was sure to get the right fit. We hired this business to enclose our master shower that the builder had neglected to do. We paid $2000 ish for the work. We paid an extra $200 for a coating on the glass that would have the water bead off meaning very little soap build up. The installers cracked 6 of the 9 tiles they anchored into. When we called to have someone come out, they sent someone who told us that it would be ideal to anchor in a grout line. Duh. There was a grout line one half an inch away for the entirety of the project! No offer to fix or do anything about. Also it leaked around the anchor brackets and they just put silicone where it shouldn't go so now there is black mildew where I can't scrub. Needless to say the coating we paid for does not work. The glass gets cloudier faster than I have ever seen. read more

Buying an older glass house in need of new windows we relied on referrals. A number of people highly recommended Charlottesville Glass. They replaced most of our floor to ceiling glass windows beautifully. The icing on the cake was when we upgraded my son's bathroom. Dwight recommended installing an exterior window with textured stained glass (recovered from an old local church) between two layers of tempered glass. They then fitted a gorgeous shower door that worked within a small bathroom perfectly. You couldn't ask for a company that was so willing to work so efficiently within your budget, time frame and workspace. I'm not sure what people are talking about with the other comments because I've experienced nothing but excellent professional care and assistance. read more

As a business owner it troubles me Greatly when I find out that we are getting Any negative reviews. This forum and the reviews on it have just been brought to my attention this week and I very much believe they need a response. My wife and I purchased Charlottesville Glass back in 2000 from my father. We both are hands on working in the business every day in an effort to maintain and improve on the reputation my father started 62 years ago. We as a company serve several thousand customers every year and we are Very grateful for each and everyone of our customers. Obviously we have failed to properly resolve the problems of those that have taken the time to write these negative reviews and I am truly sorry for that. I Do Not wish to start a dialog using this forum. But I do want to let the folks know that wrote these reviews as well as any others that we may upset in the future that I would love the opportunity to discuss the issues of concern personally with with you in an effort to resolve them. I realize that some of you have already made efforts to resolve these matters but unfortunately I have not been involved in those efforts. There are No excuses for not answering the phone during business hours and for not returning voice mails and I am sorry to hear that this has happened and have taken steps to correct this problem. Not that we are perfect but I am confident that we can do better. I ordered a mirror. I was given a time it would be ready for pick-up. I sent someone to pick it up for me the day after if was to be ready. She got there and was told it would not be ready until 1 pm. She had the company call me. They said they were behind and did not get it ready. I asked why I was not informed. They stated they always inform their customers if a job is not to be ready. I said I clearly was not informed. They replied their was nothing they could do about it, come back at 1pm and it would be ready. My friend was unable to go back. I live in another city so I could not get there. I spoke to Julie, the manager. I explained the situation and said for the inconvenience I feel I was due some type of compensation. I was coming from out of town that weekend and needed the mirror that was promised to me. I would now have to reschedule to come another weekend because I could not get the mirror as promised. She then said they had already discounted the mirror. I said as far as I knew I was paying full price, why did she think it was discounted. She said her employee quoted me the wrong price. That was clearly their mistake and I knew nothing about it being the wrong price. Needless to say, they did not try to make this right. I will never do business with this company again. Make sure if your on a deadline to order way before you need it (even though I did order way before I needed it and it did not help me). read more
