Now, I am…read moreVERY prone to seasickness so I decided to sit it out and my husband graciously agreed to stay back with me. So the family goes and they have a nice boat ride but do not report seeing many dolphins. Thems the breaks with nature, I suppose! Anyway, they get back and my husband and I decide to take a walk around the marina so our day wasn't a total bust. And my friends? We hit the dolphin JACKPOT. We managed to be there at the same time a shrimp boat returned and after they docked they began to sort their catches, throwing any unwanted fish and sea creatures back into the water. And the wildlife went CRAZY. The dolphins swam right up to the boat, just by railing we were watching from. There were dozens of them! DOZENS! The pelicans came by and I delighted watching them diving and taking fish down their mighty gullets. Seagulls dove and hovered....it was so fun. I honestly think we watched for close to an hour. It was delightful. And the best part? We didn't pay a dime for the experience and I wasn't puking over the side of a boat. Wins all around! I texted my cousin, the one who requested the boat excursion, a short clip of all the dolphins we saw and she responded with a very cross looking emoticon. Annoying my teenage cousin? The extra bonus of the whole affair. IDK how know often those boats come through and I would never want to discourage anyone from taking a tour if they wanted but if you can time it right, you'll get a pretty incredible experience just by passing through.

You might see kayakers and plenty of fisher-people out on the pier. If you're a fan of boats or birds, there are plenty to be seen. You can even watch the boats get hoisted out of the water into a bait storage. They have a scant amount of public parking so if it's a busy day you might be out of luck. I did like the view at the end of the pier and the birds certainly aren't shy.

We were assigned a spot on the outside of the mega dock itself. In the late afternoon through early evening the current gets pretty rough and has you bouncing around a bit, but it does settle down. We had 30 to 40ft of depth under us on the outside of the mega dock. Pump outs are done via a pump out boat. As long as someone is free they can come take care of you. The laundry facilities and showers were really nice, as were the bathrooms. This marina is under construction, expanding their available slips and putting in all new floating docks. Parking is all gated, so for Walmart deliveries and Uber you need to walk up to the bus station bench by the gas station. The staff were great! Super helpful and always answered the phone. There is a shuttle that runs every hour until close that will take you anywhere downtown, and it goes to West Marine once a day. Charleston is a wonderful city and we will definitely be returning to this marina to spend more time. It was a great experience all around.

The price per foot is very competitive and worth it. More convenient then a jet dock. Seabreeze is tucked away off East Bay and very convenient to get to. Parking is limited during the week, but I've never had an issue finding a spot. The marina itself is large enough to hold around 15-17 boats in the water at any given time, so keeping your boat in for a few days is not problem. Having your boat placed in the water is literally as easy as a button on an app. From there they will fill up your tank, ice you down, and even provide snacks and beverages (extra cost) if you request. The app is always working well and I've never had a problem. What separates Seabreeze from other Marinas are the PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE. Great group of guys who are genuinely very friendly and just there to make sure your happy. They are always very accommodating to all my special requests. I trust them without question with my boat and have had no issues. Will the GM is always available when I've needed him. Chandler and Hunter are awesome at making sure everything is running smooth. It's hard for me to imagine putting my boat anywhere else.

He is a wealth of local knowledge and very friendly. The marina location is great as it is in a protected area and offers ideal access to the harbor. Its a little tough getting to town from the marina, but the same is true for all downtown marinas offering annual slips and Seabreeze has more parking than others.

Captain Shane was very communicative throughout the process and was at the boat launch waiting for us even though we arrived 10 minutes early. He drove us into a creek and within less than 5 minutes, our daughter had a 4lb red drum in the boat. 2 minutes later, another 4lb red drum. Within the first thirty minutes we caught red drum, black drum, speckled trout and sheepshead. For a 2 hour charter, I would have been very pleased with that. When the fishing in the creek slowed down, Capt. Shane took us to another spot near where the container ships were unloading. For the next next 45 minutes, it was "fish on"! Multiple times, our daughter and I had fish on at the same time. Here, we caught a ton of red drum, some sheepshead and black drum. The highlight of the day was when our daughter hooked into a 10lb black drum. She struggled to get the fish in, so Capt. Shane jumped in and landed the fish for her. WOW! I know it was only a 2 hour charter, but we were catching so many fish, so fast at the end, Capt. Shane let us run over on time a bit. We finally ran out of bait and headed back in. I would like to thank Capt. Shane for his service in our US Air Force and for giving our daughter a fishing experience she will not soon forget. Capt. Shane was pleasant, knowledgeable and obviously knows where to catch fish. As a family, we could not have been more satisfied.

With only one cruise ship (Carnival Sunshine) based in Charleston, there's no question which cruise…read moreship is yours when you drive up to the port. This port is much easier to navigate than Port Canaveral, Miami, or Tampa, but with that comes fewer sailings and itineraries. If you cruise out of Charleston, be prepared to stand in lines and ride shuttles. Your first stop is a building where you'll show your boarding pass, drop off your luggage, and show your proof of citizenship. If you park at the port, you're shuttled from the parking lot to this building. Otherwise, most cabs/Ubers drop you off here. After showing documentation, you're shuttled again to a building where you'll go through security, along with your carry ons, and get on the ship. It's more complicated than larger ports, but the staff is nice enough, and you can't be too grumpy when you're starting a vacation. Cruise debarkation in Charleston is a breeze. If you carry off your luggage, you swipe your cruise card as you get off the ship, then literally walk down the gangway and out of the building. We were never asked about how much alcohol we purchased or our casino winnings, although we were within the cruise line's guidelines. Once you're off the boat, you're shuttled to the parking lot, or you can get into a waiting cab or order an Uber or Lyft. The workers here are incredibly nice. Most are older people and so enthusiastic. I've heard they get benefits like discount cruises, so maybe that's why they're so happy? Anyway, they seem to like their jobs! The Port of Charleston isn't perfect, but I'm glad to have the Carnival Sunshine here. The ship doesn't have many bells and whistles, but it's an easy vacation option without having to take many days off work or drive far.

We entered the parking lot and were 2nd in line at the payment tent. The worker took our payment and put a sticker dot on our windshield to indicate we have paid. The lot wasn't cleared out yet so we waited and as we did, the workers went down the line taking payments on digital handheld card payment devices. This, I'm sure, saved them loads of time when the lot opened as those who paid could just roll on thru. Very efficient process. We drove thru the luggage line, didn't have any to check, then multiple workers in the lot showed us where to park. Lot was very safe and secure and we had no issues with leaving our car there for a week. We walked to the port building, checked in for our cruise and then took a shuttle bus to the ship. All in all took less than 45 mins from the time the lot opened to park to getting on the ship. One of the most smooth embarkations we've ever experienced.
