Charles Slaughter was the only area piano tuner who replied to my inquiries, and did a great job for a great price.
We have a 1920's era upright piano that came with the house we bought. It was badly out of tune, but mechanically sound. Although he's located an hour away, he was working in my area and agreed to tune the piano for the flat price quoted on his website: $100.
He spent almost three hours bringing everything gently into tune, then buffed the felts (which improved the tone to an amazing degree). But that was only after a full inspection, and an offer to either tune it as-is for his stated price, or make some needed repairs for only a small amount more. If this piano was for serious use, his offer would have been more than generous, but he understood that it's just for casual use and visitors playing.
We talked about bringing it up to concert pitch, but the 90 year old strings had some rust spots, so in the interest of safety he tuned it exactly a half tone flat.
The only reason I don't give him five stars, is because I'm not a piano player, so I can't rate him fully. But, I highly recommend his services for anyone in northern New Hampshire. You can't beat the price, and I highly doubt you'll beat the service. read more
