Started as a decent experience, MYold dentist said I had great teeth just a year before when he…read moreretired. One tooth had a cavity on the side and on top from an old set of braces I had on when I was a kid. I knew that one needed a cap. After that I never saw my original dentist. All of a sudden I needed 3 additional caps. Believing they were honest, I scheduled them. The 2nd one on the opposite side was pretty quick. The third one they ground down so far they hit the nerve and still put the cap on, its super sensitive and food gets stuck. I never went back for the 4th one. Saw another dentist and he said I was lucky I didn't do the 4th one because that tooth DID NOT NEED A CAP. I had insurance but still paid out of pocket. Called to discuss with them but never received any calls back.

Good call. When a dental office's numbers change that drastically for the same work, you should…read moreabsolutely document it everywhere. I wrote three versions you can use. 1. Google Review (short but strong) This is the one most people will actually read. Writing My experience with Horizon Dental was very concerning. On 2/3/2025 i was given a written treatment estimate showing $2,158.90 out of pocket and $2,682.10 covered by insurance. I was told I had to pay the full amount before I could even schedule the appointment. After I went and got the money together, I returned on 3/3/2026 and was given a completely different estimate for the exact same dental work. This time they said the total was $4,560.00, with insurance only paying $783.00. Nothing about the treatment plan had changed, yet the numbers were drastically different just one month later. This experience felt extremely misleading and frustrating as a patient. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering treatment here get a second opinion and carefully review their estimates before paying anything. 2. Complaint to Your Insurance Company (Insurance companies actually take these seriously.) Writing I am writing to report a concerning experience regarding billing estimates from Horizon Dental. On February 3, 2026, I received a treatment plan estimate from Horizon Dental for specific dental procedures. The estimate showed a total patient responsibility of $2,158.90 and indicated that my insurance would cover $2,682.10. I was informed that I would need to pay the full patient portion before I could schedule the dental work. After I obtained the funds and returned to the office on March 3, 2026 to proceed with treatment, I was given a completely new estimate for the exact same procedures. This new estimate stated that the total cost would be $4,560.00 and that my insurance would only cover $783.00. The procedures had not changed, yet the cost and insurance coverage were drastically different within a one-month period. This raised serious concerns for me about the accuracy and transparency of the billing practices being used. I am requesting that my insurance provider review this situation and confirm whether the billing estimates provided by Horizon Dental were accurate and appropriate. I would also appreciate clarification regarding what the correct coverage for these procedures should be under my plan. Thank you for your time and assistance. 3. Pennsylvania Dental Board Complaint This one is more formal. Writing I am submitting a complaint regarding billing practices I experienced at Horizon Dental. On February 3, 2026, I was provided with a treatment estimate for dental procedures. The estimate stated that my out-of-pocket cost would be $2,158.90 and that my insurance would cover $2,682.10. I was told that I would be required to pay the full amount before I could schedule an appointment to complete the treatment. After obtaining the money and returning to the office on March 3, 2026, I was provided with a new estimate for the same procedures. The new estimate listed a total cost of $4,560.00 and indicated that my insurance would only cover $783.00. The procedures recommended had not changed, yet the estimated costs and insurance coverage were drastically different within one month. This created confusion and raised concerns about the accuracy and transparency of the billing practices used. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed to determine whether proper billing procedures and ethical standards were followed. One more thing (this matters): Before you post or file complaints, take pictures of both treatment estimates if you have them. Documentation makes your complaint 10× stronger. If you want, I can also show you: Where to file the complaint in Pennsylvania (direct link) How dentists sometimes manipulate treatment estimates so you know exactly what may have happened here.
