This office is especially good because of Sydney Andersen. She is a delight to work with. She cares about her clients and is extremely helpful. The other people that we have come in contact with are also nice too. But Sydney has gone out of her way to assist us with a lot of the financial matters that we had. I have been around several different financial institutions, good and mediocre. This Charles Schwab branch is fairly poor on quality. I was looking to start a new brokerage here and transfer some cash and shares over from my brokerage account with Vanguard. They paired me with someone fairly junior in the financial services space. I can respect a junior person with hustle, but this kid did not seem very effective at pitching Charles Schwab as a distinguished financial services company. Typical mutual funds, money market (yawn). Worse, no follow-up email or SMS at all. How can I expect top-tier service from this place, if reps don't do basic job functions like follow-up? I decided to take my business elsewhere. For those looking for in-person services, I recommend JP Morgan Private Client services or a trusted independent broker/dealer. For those more tech savvy, check out Fidelity or Vanguard. Depending on your financial goals, any of these work better and offer superior customer service than this branch. And if you're a broker/dealer at one of these other financial institutions, you may find some potential you-know-what walking out of this place, just sayin. read more

Schwab moved locations last year to an easier to access location. It is right across a Residence Inn, and has parking right in front of the building without the need to get validation as required in the previous location. The lobby is very clean and has a coffee bar for guests. They also have other rooms and outdoor areas for entertaining clients. The client advisors are extremely helpful, and Schwab has a lot of good resources and a great interface for trading and monitoring portfolio performance. Lots of nice perks for transferring equity held at other institutions and you don't even have to sell the equity! Today, I came for a document shredding event for clients. This is very helpful service to help clients get rid of old sensitive documents, as we move towards being paperless. read more

This branch is awful, even for Schwab. Came in for a simple request. Spent 10 min with the front desk (Alejandro) who assured me he would get it taken care of. Skeptical, I asked for the contact info of the branch manager in case I never heard back from anyone. Sure enough, never heard a word and wasted a visit to the branch. So I emailed the branch manager a month later (Richard) explaining the request and that I was ignored. Again, not a peep, and I've followed up yet again. I guess the only way to get anyone's attention is writing a letter to the office of the president, explaining that you've spent hours trying to get a simple answer. I wondered what this branch even does if they can't service their clients, then read these reviews and realized it's one big sales office to get you to invest. If that's you, BEWARE, these folks will ignore you and you'll be just another number. If you need any kind of help, good luck- you'll end up like me... frustrated and ignored after multiple attempts, even if you have large/multiple accounts with them. I went in to this branch because I was having an issue with the app. I found the staff to be very professional and helpful, and my problem was resolved. The office is very nice and clean too. I needed to roll over my 401(k) from a previous employer to my Schwab account. I had a check from my former 401(k) made out to Charles Schwab and came to this office. The lady manning the reception area was not able to look up my account using my name and social security #. So she gave me a pre-addressed envelop where I should mail the check. She said to just mail the check as is and optionally, I could put a handwritten note explaining what needed to be done. Long story short, I stupidly followed her instructions and spend the next 2 weeks trying to track down the check. Per a Schwab phone rep, she gave me the wrong info/instructions and I basically wasted a couple of hours of my time getting this issue resolved. Thanks for nothing. read more

My father referred me to schwab the day I turned 18. This review is mainly referring to the banking segment which is to avoid at all costs. I lost my wallet in another country the debit card was swiped a total of $600 and they refused to reimburse me siting the atm had to have known my pin which was a ridiculous reason. I now use BCU for all my banking, and recommend a credit union. Trading is awesome with schwab such a shame the banking side is lacklustre. read more

We've been with Charles Schwab since before it had branches. Schwab is committed to its customers. Along the way we tried others who sought to mimic the Schwab business model but we dropped those after we were inundated with annoying sales calls. Schwab gives advice when you need it, and it stands back when you want to be left alone. Unlike a private bank that we tried, which applied its own portfolio rules after committing that our account would be managed by our instructions, Schwab has always been reliable and forthright. We lost considerable funds with that "private" bank misstep. We also lost funds when another "low cost" brokerage lost papers in its Phoenix office costing us several thousand dollars because funds remained uninvested due to the loss. Schwab has always been responsive, accurate, timely, reliable and effective. Lessons learned. Go with Schwab. Stay with Schwab. read more

I just opened a brokerage account going to this location. Heba was the person who helped me do this. I specifically asked her if they were going to run my credit and she said NO. A day later, there was a hard inquiry on my profile. Also, apparently she forgot to complete a part of my application, as I received an email with form that was not completed. I have called the Irvine branch directly several times and they did not get back to me yet! read more

UPDATE 6/7/16 Shortly after posting my original review, a rep from Schwab posted a comment requesting my contact info so that they could follow up with me to get more info and resolve the issue I described. After replying with my info, I promptly received a call from a Schwab manager named John who listened intently and sympathized with my poor experience. He was truly concerned and wanted to make things right. Beyond vowing to work with the rep I dealt with in order to correct the issue, John offered to compensate me with a $200 "nuisance fee", which was credited to my account within the hour. I couldn't be more impressed with this level of customer service. We all make mistakes - it's how we deal with them that counts! As such, I'm revising my rating to 5-stars - as good as it gets! read more

Schwab BANK is THE BEST. Ok, first off, this review is NOT for this location. I've never been to a single location because Schwab Bank is SO AWESOME on the phone / web. But I gotta put the review somewhere. First off, if you're with B of A, Wells Fargo, Chase or even a Credit Union..... Change banks immediately! Major banks are a rip off and my credit union is good, but very limited for online access, while traveling, etc. Although, credit unions may be better for auto loans / mortgages. OK, why is Schwab the best? 1) CUSTOMER SERVICE. First time I called because I was having trouble opening a checking account (I'd heard they were the best bank for people who lived / traveled abroad). The guy was AWESOME. He spent about 30 minutes discussing things with me, and was unable to open the account, but explained why and even how I could work around the problem (although maybe he wasn't supposed to tell me that). Finally, he concluded the call with this, "Well, sorry we could open an account for you today, but I certainly hope you'll consider us in the future. And feel free to call us if you have any questions about banking, money while traveling, or anything at all. Even though you're not a customer, we'd love to help you in any way we can." Seriously? You want me to call you with any money questions even though I'm not a customer? Yup, that's exactly what he was offering: I should consider them my go-to for financial questions. Awesome, already wanted the account, now I won't consider anyone else. 2) FLEXIBLE. I wanted to buy a car while in Thailand for 6 months. No problem, to save me money / time / hassle on wire transfers, they'll just up my daily ATM withdrawal limit to $5,000 for a week. And since all ATM fees are refunded, I just paid the exchange rate. Needed $11k in cash for another car purchase in the US - no problem, up the ATM limit again. Or overnight a cashiers check (not available at locations). Or give me a one day high limit for my debit card. Or do a wire transfer since EFT takes a few days to clear. Basically, I call, I get a real person, and they give me OPTIONS, usually without fees. 3) NO FEES. Okay, they actually do have standard $20 charge for incoming wire transfers and $10 for the cashier's check.... But who doesn't?! The fees are minimal and often waived / worked around. ATM fees refunded. Never been charged for ANYTHING unexpectedly. 4) ABOVE AND BEYOND. I had one automatic payment that was about to set me negative by $17 because an incoming wire transfer hadn't cleared. THEY contacted me about it, saw my account had a good record, and credit my account with $17. And they never took it back. Meaning, instead of charging me for a possible over-limit withdrawal, they actually GAVE me the money to cover it. Of course, if they ever decide to take their $17 back, I have no complaints. Seriously - they gave me (or temporarily lent) the money to cover my mistake. Any other bank would have charged $25 to lend me $17... or simply rejected the automatic withdrawal and caused another set of headaches and fees. Conclusion I also use a few other services (investments, etc), but am mainly reviewing the BANKING services here. The are number one, bar none. I've tried several major institutions (who charge too many fees and act like they're doing you a favor) and minor ones (who don't have the 24hr service & excellent web / mobile platforms)... Charles Schwab Bank is so far ahead of the competition that they truly are in a class of their own. I'm never leaving - Schwab for life. read more

I've been a customer of Charles Schwab for over 20 years and I'm about to rethink using them. While I also have accounts with E*TRADE and Fidelity along with several banks I needed to open a SEP IRA today given that it was the last day to open a 2017 account. Part of the reason I waited to the last minute was this was the first time I've ever had to open a SEP IRA (vs. traditional or 401K) and I needed to wait until my CPA had calculated how much I should contribute. I started this journey a couple of weeks ago at the Seal Beach location where after standing in line for 15 minutes I was given a card to "call" regarding opening a SEP IRA. WHY do they have brick and mortar locations when all there are going to do is tell you to call their 800 number! Hence today I was running around like crazy and since I was in Irvine I stopped by this location, which is in a large office building and requires the hassle of parking in a garage and getting parking validated, etc. I go in and tell them I want to open a SEP IRA by transferring funds from my Schwab brokerage account. They then proceed to give me a Chromebook to login to in order to open an account and a bunch of forms to also fill out and then CALL AN 800 NUMBER THEIR AT THE BRANCH if I have any questions!!!! Are you frigging SERIOUS! Long story short I had questions they couldn't answer and for some reason Schwab wanted my EIN number (which I couldn't access because the Chromebook wouldn't allow me to access Intuit) so I left. I got home and sat down with the paperwork, logged on to Schwab.com and then called the 800 number they gave me at the branch and a rather curt person on the other end basically told me I was crazy to think I could open a SEP IRA in ONE DAY and I would have to jump through hoops to do so. I hung up from Schwab, called Fidelity Investments who connected me with the Seal Beach office, who were VERY helpful on the phone and who WALKED ME THROUGH THE PROCESS ONLINE. It took me a matter of minutes and I was done. I drove to the Fidelity Seal Beach branch where they deposited my money for the SEP IRA and answered some related questions. Schwab put me through hell to open an account with them and Fidelity actually seemed to want my business and helped me. I've learned my lesson with Schwab and any fleeting thought of consolidating my money at Schwab was just that, FLEETING! read more

No complaints about their service or products here but this location is definitely inferior to the other locations because you have to park in the structure that is luckily located adjacent to the branch. Don't go here if you are a first time investor to the game. They are not very helpful at best. I called the office to make an appointment and I was put on hold. I live about 10 minutes away so I thought I would drive there while I'm waiting on the phone. When I arrived at the office I was still on hold. I walked in to the office and the young man at the front desk said "Can I help you"? and I said "yes" you can start by picking up your phone because you still have me on hold for the last 20 or so....Oh!...we are really busy today. Interesting where is everybody? There's nobody here.... In all fairness I went there at 4 o'clock and they close at 5:00 PM. So I figured they must of had a busy day so they're just not picking up the phone. Either way the-man gave me the information to set up the account. Of course I had questions and I had to keep raising my hand and giving the excuse me what does this mean? Finally, a lady came over to assist with the technical questions but she kept walking away and just really couldn't be bothered. Bottom line very little help if any. ok let me start off by saying this place is almost impossible to get anyone on the phone the 6 times i tried calling... and when i did get someone and i explained my situation that i needed to come in person to verify my identity before making changes to the account he said he would take me on a friday. when i arrived the staff said there was no one there left to assist me and that their system did not show that i was scheduled. all of that was just bad news. HOWEVER, my family and i were assisted by Gilbert Gonzales the Client Relationship Specialist and he is the reason why i left satisfied. he informed us that this is not for the everyday customer and their branch handles like corporations or businesses. but he went ahead and called corporate and took care of verifying the identity and not only that helped us get notarized and our take care of our account information which normally would needed to be scheduled another day. HE IS AMAZING. literally why he is the client relationship SPECIALIST. because he is more than willing to assist customers that come in no matter what their problem is. some one give this man a raise. he is the sole reason i didn't give this location a one star review. he didnt have to help us that day and could have redirected us elsewhere or told us to come back another day but nope he was just very helpful and a good person. GILBERT should be running this place! amazing service only by Gilbert Gonzales. 5 stars for Gilbert. minus one star for the rep who "booked" my appointment but didnt really. read more

Could this be the worst bank/financial institution in America? It's in a close race with Key Bank/Newberg, OR for the most incompetent, dingleberry, out-of-control, cowboy, financial "helpers" ever. They just do and say anything that comes into their head at the moment. What they mostly say is, "That account will fund tomorrow after you fill out just this one more form," which was the same one you filled out yesterday and last week, both of which they lost somehow. Then you fill it out and it's "but wait, here's a new form you need to fill out" and the whole process starts all over again. Yes, this could be the worst financial institution in America now that I think of it. That Key Bank sucked too, but at least there, the account (the wrong one mostly) got funded and once I figured out they couldn't make a deposit in the right place, I had access to my money. With these guys, I can't even get the account to open! Booo. read more
