I needed to find a "black" barbershop. I've been to quite a few in Vallejo and I never could quite find one that I felt comfortable in. But Simply the best always has multiple barbers ready to do a good job, engage in some friendly banter, and send you on your way looking as fresh as possible. Its a place I would take my kids to if I had any. As a tip its best to call and make an appointment but they do usually have a barber who takes walk ins. I really like this shop and I recommend it to anyone. My only wish is that they put on the tv sometimes.

We never left Vallejo for those 6 days because I wanted to be close in case something happened. I knew I had to go home on Wednesday because my kid started school on Thursday but I wasn't able to get him a haircut because I was busy with family. I looked through yelp and called some places. Most places were booked or I didn't feel comfortable that they would be the right place. I called here at like 3:30 on Wednesday 7-14-24 and asked if they could fit my kid in. They said yes can you come in 20 minutes. I said of course. I was told to ask for Oscar . I went to the wrong barber shop at first and asked for Oscar. Now tell me why these folks were so rude about telling me Oscar didn't work there ? Turns out he used to and they were salty as hell about it. Complete turn off in my book. If I'm looking for your competition wouldn't you want to actually compete and see if I want to patronize your business? No they were rude to me all because they are in competition. Bad customer service in my eyes. I so glad I didn't go there. I finally find the right shop and I'm so happy I did. The shop is located across the way from the other shop and there is a spa inside. It's clean, it's nice, the people are friendly and it smells amazing ( I want to buy some spa products at this point ) Oscar is extremely nice! He had his chair all set up and was ready for us. He was so warm and welcoming. He told me about his training in cutting African American hair ( love the respect he put on our identity) and talked about how he didn't know there was a difference until someone told him early in his barber career. I loved that he reassured me of what was a concern of mine without me having to ask. He took his time cutting my kids hair. He said he doesn't rush and treats each haircut carefully and takes his time. I feel like this is the best haircut my kid has had because I've been taken him to the $12 dollar spot by my house in Hayward and I literally got $12 results . He respected my kids wave pattern and cut him up nice!!!! . I'm going to plan my family visits around his haircut so I can come from Hayward to see him. I would definitely recommend Oscar. The only comments I saw not being accurate is that Tevin only cuts on Sundays. I was here today (Saturday) and he's definitely working most all days except when he's closed. Upon entering, Tevin was tending to a client and he and another barber working immediately welcomed me in and made me feel right at home. I had no appointment and was able to get in. Miguel finished with his client so he offered to cut my hair. Miguel is an amazing barber! He's not only a skilled barber, but he's bilingual in Spanish which made my experience even better! As a woman with sons it's not always easy to walk into a barber shop full of men. The "man talk" can be nerve racking and uncomfortable but Sam and Donnie make it a point to make sure all their male clientele' recognize and respect that a woman is present and to tone it down. The shop is clean and spacious and all the barbers are trained in the latest styles and cuts. My sons always get out of the chair looking fine and ready for any photo shoot.

And the time or two I did get him to relax, it would leave red marks and it got to the point where he was refusing to go. I called Edge of Colors and explained what had happened in the past at a different salon and she took the time to talk with me and say that for some people their skin can react that way... but that Mike was experienced with cutting children's hair. So we scheduled an appt for the same day- So glad I did because it went incredibly! He was patient with my son, talked him through when he got scared and was super playful and fun. And surprisingly there was no red marks. My son loved the hair cut and said he wants to go there every time he needs his hair cut now. Total win for me as his mom, because I don't have to deal with meltdowns, bribery, consequences or anything now lol. Super appreciative for the time and quality of experience
