Been a patient with Dr. Hu for the past 5+ years. At the office, the wait time is not long, and the people are very friendly. They help with all the next appointments and what is needed with care, never rushed or rude. Dr. Hu - even though the appointment window is small, she is never rushed or pushy. Overall so far with the first visit a solid 4 stars(2 visits so far in regards with my moms health and care), located in the 3 wing next to the Stanford hospital as of October 2023(they plan on moving soon to the third floor). I'll admit the first visit was at a last minute type of deal in which she squeezed us in at the closing hr. She seemed very rushed and while she tried to answer some of our questions, I did feel rushed myself at times and felt a tad awkward. But, she did some test and the diagnosis was what I thought it would be. At times, my mom didn't really understand her at all due to her accent, even I had to ask her to repeat what she said once or twice, but in the end I believe all of us understood the questions and answers amongst the 3 of us on the most part. The second visit was much better overall since it was a regular appointment during the day and she was prompt in her questions and answers for mom's care. read more

I cannot believe the audacity this neurologist has. She ordered a brain mri to rule out symptoms I was experiencing and once it came back normal she told me I have nothing for you. I called and left her messages about my nerve pain and she refused do do any further testing or figure out what's going on and told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because I have a mental issue.... I couldn't believe it and have filed a complain against her and I'm hoping Stanford will take this seriously..... What a disappointment read more

I would not go back to this woman ever again. She barely saw me and had the nerve to give me a very negative and insulting review/comments on my records which I do not appreciate. As a patient we go to a Dr. for hope and treatment and consideration not to treat you as a mental case which she does. Do yourself a favor and never consider this woman for anything. read more

I'm eighty-two years old and ordinarily wouldn't bother writing a review, but people need to know about the morals and character of Dr. Charlene Hu before putting their trust in her. I was surprised when my general practitioner recently referred me to her, and that she hadn't lost her license to practice medicine by now. In 2013 she gave me a referral for an MRI without contrast. When I returned to her she was adamant about having checked the contrast box and made me have another MRI. She went to the back room and pulled a copy of the referral, I could see the box was now checked, but with a different pen and became suspicious. At radiology I asked for a copy of the original referral and sure enough she did not check the contrast box. When I returned to her with my evidence all she had to say was, I am so sorry not I am so sorry I made a mistake. Being subjected to more radiation than necessary was upsetting. She was condescending and nasty until I showed her the copy of the original MRI referral. Do you want a doctor that is dishonest and falsifies records for her own gain? Should have sent a complaint to the California Medical Association years ago. And yes, doctors definitely take care of their own, they can be complicit or not stir the pot when they should. read more

My parents have been under Dr. Hu's care for the past six years and we couldn't be happier. Dr. Hu is one of the most compassionate, knowledgeable neurologists around. While dealing with elderly patients with dementia can't be easy, Dr. Hu is always so welcoming and caring when she sees us and has the ability to connect with people who otherwise don't connect with anyone, even family. read more

Dr, Hu is awesome. I have been to several neurologists before and she has been the most receptive and patient with me. Her bedside manner is great, no typical doctor ego trip. Even though I didn't hear what I wanted to, she took the time to explain everything with me and go over my concerns until I felt comfortable. I think she asked me 4-5 times throughout the appointment if I had any questions, which I very much appreciated. She also engaged my mom who came with me. She seems very willing to work with you on treatments and medications to find out what is going to be best for you. I think she has moved to 5575 W Las Positas Blvd in Pleasanton since this yelp ad was created, because that's where I saw her. The staff was very friendly there and on top of things, which is impressive since she shares the suite with a lot of other doctors. I was asked to arrive about a half an hour early to my appointment and I think I was actually sitting in the room with Dr. Hu right at my scheduled appointment time. My experience here was terrible. I arrived 10 minutes early for my 4:30 appointment, and I sat down to wait after I checked in. I noticed that there was a lady and her son next to me, and they fighting nonstop, and the receptionists were doing nothing, even though the pair was VERY VERY loud, and since the office is small, sound carries. After 30 minutes of waiting, I was called back. I was surprised at the wait, since there are 3 doctors at this office, and only 2 patients including myself. While I was waiting in my room for Dr. Hu, I could here her talking to another patient thru the wall. This patient was the man and his mom who had been arguing. It turns out that they were 45 minutes late to there appointment, and Dr. Hu saw them instead of seeing me first and then them. Since there was nothing else to do, I listened to their conversation. They were talking about their favorite cupcake places and who their favorite contestants on Top Chef were. They also started sharing recipes. After 20 minutes of waiting in my room, and stepped out and talked to the receptionist about the wait. She said that she couldn't talk to Dr. Hu while she was with a patient. Frustrated, I went back to my room, and waited for another 10 minutes. and the entire time all they talked about in the other room was the Food Channel, and Barefoot Contessa. Fed up with waiting for over an hour, I told the receptionist that I had to go to another appointment (even though I didn't have one) and I left. Dr. Hu didn't even come out and apologize for the wait. While she had been talking about food, I had been waiting with a terrible headache from a concussion that I had received in a sports related incident. The service of this place is downright horrible, and the doctor is not professional. Off to the Stanford hospital I go. read more

Do NOT go to see her. I would give her no stars if I could. I went there the day I found out I have epilepsy, and she was awful. She seemed nice enough, and I was so anxious and relieved to get to see a neurologist so quickly. But her incompetence is horrifying. She didn't seem like she knew what she was doing, and she was CLEARLY scattered. I saw her for about 2-3 appointments. She put me on Trileptal, and I think that was a good call. It worked for me immediately. But eventually her flakiness worried me enough to seek out a new neurologist, and when I saw her she was shocked by what a mess Dr. Hu's notes were. Dr. Hu had written down that I was taking two medications, Trileptal, and one I'd never even heard about from her. All of this in ONE sentence. She wrote that I was taking the wrong medication AND the wrong doses. I'm so glad I switched doctors. If she can't even correctly record what medications SHE prescribed me, I fear to think what else she got wrong, or could've gone wrong if I'd stayed with her. read more

My husband has been going to Dr. Hu for some twitching in his eye. He is treated with multiple Botox injections. He has a black eye for about 10 days afterward, this never happened with a previous Neurologist that relocated out of the area. He happened to see his primary care doctor and was recommended that he find another doctor that knows what they are doing. My husband thinks that Dr. Hu is very nice but that is not the most important thing when you are having treatment there. The staff here are very rude, no return calls, billing is a nightmare. Over billing is so common and to try and resolve an issue with billing is a nightmare. We have been trying to get a several hundred dollar error that they made credited since Feb. Of course they say it has been resolved but the same bill keeps coming. This has not been the first time there has been a problem with the billing! Rude, rude, staff! Needless to say my husband will not be going here anymore! read more

Dr. Charlene Hu may be a competent neurologist, but be warned that her staff (shared with Dr. Man K. Leong), are prone to making maddening mistakes in appointments and in billing. If they make an appointment mistake, the staff will insist they did not make the mistake (mind you, this happened to both my wife with Dr. Hu and to me for Dr. Leong so I know this is not a fluke). The billing statements of Dr. Hu must be deconstructed with a spreadsheet to understand, and not only that, they change month to month... sometimes they don't credit you for past payments, sometimes they do. We just were billed a year later on a missed appointment that THEY caused. They claim the bill is a year late, yet no previous statement ever mentioned a missed appointment at all. As I said, Dr. Hu may be a competent neurologist, but STAY AWAY because the staff is three-stooges like, except you won't laugh. read more

I DO NOT recommend DR HU. She is a very nice lady, but not a very good doctor. Her office staff as TERRIBLE. I had to give them my correct phone number on 4 occasions before they got it right. I had to call multiple times to leave messages for the doc before she called me back, even though I told the receptionist it was URGENT and that my health depended on it. The doctor wasn't sure about my diagnosis, so she sent me to the specialist in the city. But she did not provide me or him with the necessary records to make a decision, so essentially I paid $400 out of pocket for no goood reason. I requested records but they only sent me partials. I love Dr. Hu. Ive been seeing her for about 5 years now, and she is very caring, very thorough, and has a wonderful bedside manner. She is proactive, and very knowledgeable...her office staff are very nice and personable, and efficient. after reading some reviews maybe my husband is fortunate she will not be treating him for a concussion. my husband had to cancel his appointments twice and after the second cancellation he received a call from the doctor's office the day before the appointment stating that Dr. Hue will not take him as a patient because he cancelled twice. read more

My daughter needed to see a neurologist for dysautonomia so my family doctor gave us a referral to go see Dr. Hu. When I started talking about the debilitating symptoms and that we'd like to do some testing to find out if there was an underlying issue other than the initial one she started laughing! Yes, laughing. She told me, just by looking at my daughter, that our previous doctor was wrong because she LOOKED very young and healthy!! This woman is an amateur and a dangerous one at that. She reluctantly ordered MRIs and EEGs but there is no point because we will never, ever get back to that office again. There was no desire to help us whatsoever and she has absolutely no clue or concern for her patients. Infuriating, really. Save yourself the time and money. Look for a competent physician. read more

First rate neurologist. She is very competent and proactive. She has changed offices and is in with Tri-Valley Physicians. We were seen within 5 minutes of our appointment time and treated well by the staff. We have no complaints whatsoever. She accepts Medicare as well. We did not feel rushed and in fact she stayed late to administer a needed test. read more
