Lovely Saturday night date night at Charisse. This was my first time here and the location and ambiance is very nice and quaint. The service was efficient as well. The prime rib was our favorite and extremely flavorful! We will be adding this to our list of nice date night places for sure!

Ambience, service, and menu selection all excellent. Misses were the music and wine selection. We loved the space. A mix of modern and old brick. But the music they played was mostly a mix of rap and hip hop...just an odd choice for the restaurant concept of French and new American. It didn't fit the location. I was excited by a lot of the menu items. We ended up ordering a steak and pommes frites with a side of veg (all executed well) and the bolognese. The pasta was dynamite and had such a depth of flavor. Also tried the mussels in saffron cream as a starter--the PEI mussels were perfectly cooked and it was a very generous portion. I liked the broth but I didn't taste the saffron at all. They had about 7 signature cocktails and a few beers, and a few wines by the glass. I was pretty shocked that they didn't offer a wider wine selection, especially having a French influence.

We booked a reservation for 7 for my husbands birthday and had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The music was very classy and festive with a touch of jazz. Our server Alan was incredibly pleasant and patient, giving us the right amount of time in between choosing drinks, appetizers and dinner - we never felt rushed. We ordered the large charcuterie board and it easily fed 7 as the starter. I ordered the French onion soup and a Caesar salad and was pleased. I tried a little bit of my friends gnocchi and it was so good with the perfect texture and flavor of garlic. I also ordered the strawberry cocktail and espresso martini. Both were delicious, easy to drink and a great price. I went to Paris earlier in the year and the food resembled the same flavors. I will definitely come back here!

Been in KC last 3 days and looking for Mussels. Searched "mussels" in Yelp and Bingo, there they were at Charisse..and only 900 ft from Ambassador Hotel in Kansas City. I Sat at the bar....Ordered house cab, mussels with cream shallot sauce... and bolognese. it was all very good! Colin my bartender and server explained how Charlisee made everything from scratch at the restaurant. I liked the music Colin and Tara were playing! So down to earth. I've been in Kansas City and did not want to hear jazz on the 3rd night.. I liked the music at Charisse. Thanks Colin and Tara for a good experience at Charisse!

Have you ever had a piece of beef that is so good that it literally melts like a piece of butter in your mouth? If you haven't, you can get that here at Charisse! But in all seriousness, the food and beverage quality at this place is top notch - five stars! Came here for a celebration dinner, and ordered a round of cocktails to start. Unfortunately, they were out of ginger beer (how?!) so the ginger beer cocktails section was just a tease on the menu. As it was 100 degrees of hot outside, I opted for the Aviation - say hello to a fancy version of purple drank! It was floral, with lavender and gin, and perfectly refreshing! We ordered escargots as an appetizer and the presentation was very cute - nice ratio of escargot and mushroom, and the sauce was buttery and quite garlicy - luckily i like garlic but it was indeed quite overpowering. I ordered the steak frites medium rare - hello beauty! The plate is not for faint of heart! Loads of delicious and perfectly cooked fries, and a steak so good I could eat the whole cow! My bf ordered the filet mignon and that piece of fine meat was cooked so perfectly that it deserved a victory happy dance! It was accompanied with some potatoes and a carrot... but the meat stole the show. Alas, the food and beverages were the stars of the show because the service and wait time fell a little short. The food took a long time to make, which was totally worth it, but while we were waiting it felt like the service as choppy and not quite attentive. I think the restaurant was short handed because our server was also the bar tender and so he had to juggle making drinks for all the tables as well as tending to them. The whole meal took around 2.5 hours... slightly longer than expected. Other tables that got seated after us, left before us as well. Regardless, I will be back to try Charisse's Happy Hour and brunch! Dinner seems like more of a special occasion type of meal here, but we had a great time and some delicious eats and bevvies! Definitely worth a try!

I've only been here for lunch a couple of times, but each time it has been a damn good lunch. I came during Restaurant Week in 2016, but as is often the case with Restaurant Week, some of the menus are just okay and I ended up ordering off the regular menu. I had a Charisse burger with a side of veggies and it was phenomenal. Very rich for a burger; thick, a little greasy, and topped bacon jam. Insanity. You can see why I got the veggies on the side instead of fries. I was in again recently and got the French Dip and dare I say it's "must-order." The shaved rib-eye steak, the very light jalapeno flavoring, the rich au jus sauce, and the soft baguette bread made this the most memorable French Dip I've had in town. The atmosphere here is cool too with a French brasserie style. It's the opposite of stuffy but it's also very nice. Upscale and relaxed. It was a busy Friday my last time in and the service reflected a big lunch rush, but it was barely noticeable as I buried my face into that delicious sandwich.

Our Double Royale burger was beautifully executed and great quality. The beef rigatoni was rich, indulgent, and unlike anything I've had before. If this were a food-only review, Tailleur would be an easy five stars. Unfortunately... the service told a very different story. From the moment our server spilled my Diet Coke (served in a can, which felt odd for an upscale spot) and didn't attempt to clean it up, things felt off. My beef tartare starter took so long that both the server and a manager came by to apologize, assuring us it would be comped and out shortly. Instead, our mains arrived first, and by the time the tartare finally appeared, it felt like an afterthought we no longer had the appetite or opportunity to enjoy. The timing issues didn't stop there. I ordered the much-praised carrot cake to go, only to wait another 20 minutes with multiple "it'll be right out" check-ins. When the bill arrived, the tartare wasn't actually comped, so that needed another correction. We didn't complain once--honestly hoping things would course-correct--but the service never recovered. The final disappointment? The famous carrot cake I was holding out hope for to save the night turned out to be a dry, overcooked brick when I finally opened it back at my hotel. Tailleur clearly has talent in the kitchen, but the service missteps overshadowed what could have been a wonderful meal. With so many great restaurants in Kansas City, it's hard to justify a return when the experience felt this uneven.

My Winner of Best Restaurant Week Meal 2026…read more I hadn't been back to Westport Cafe for a few years but now I'm kicking myself because I've been missing out! I remembered this restaurant being one of my favorites in years past . For some reason it fell off my radar. Now it's shining like a beacon of fine dining French inspired cuisine in Westport, an entertainment district known for a more casual environment. If you are looking for a special date night meal, somewhere for a girls night or just for a treat yourself dinner I would highly suggest Westport Cafe. Let's talk about this incredible restaurant week menu. First was the deconstructed crab cake (which is always on the menu) I would order this dish again and again. The way it was presented was a work of art. All the components were complex and it was fun to eat. It has such an essence of crab without the heaviness deep fried crab cakes usually have. Seafood is special here because the Trout Almondine was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It begs to be added to the menu. The sauce was buttery and rich with nutty notes, the citrus cut through the richness so, it didn't seem heavy. The fish was cooked impeccably, I literally had no notes. They know what they're doing in that kitchen! And you know if I can rave about green beans then it was a perfectly executed dish. They had such a nice snap and vibrant green color, they were delicious dipped in that sauce. I cannot wait to go back for another solo splurge meal. This was my second dinner of the evening so I didn't make it to dessert at the restaurant but, I did take it to-go. I'm not a big dessert girl so, it wasn't very memorable however, the rest of the meal is engrained in my mind. I remember back a few years ago I used to go crazy for the muscles here so, I can't wait to sample them again. Also, just a note any menu that has rabbit on it just completes me. It's so hard to find nowadays in Kansas City and it's one of my favorite meats to indulge in. The menu rotates seasonally (as one should) so, I need to rush back in soon before the rabbit leaves. I would suggest you rush in too, I do not think you'll regret it.

Another wonderful New Year's Eve lunch at Cafe Provence!…read more Our server was Jody M, who was over-the-top FABULOUS! She was friendly, attentive, efficient, and really knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us great recommendations when we (especially me) were deciding on main courses and drink pairings. Our food came out quickly, exactly as we had ordered, and Jody checked back frequently to ensure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our meals. My friend had the fresh fish special (bass) which she said was absolutely top-notch, and I had the crepe au poulet, which was delicious! We shared the beet salad as a starter (which Jody thoughtfully brought out on two plates), and it was really tasty and a perfect beginning to our meal. We finished up with French press coffees (of course!), which was spot-on perfect, and were able to take our time and savor the moment of having finished a really well-made lunch. Many thanks again to everyone at Cafe Provence, from the kitchen to the front-of-house, for such a marvelous meal. We'll continue to return because we know it will always be a great experience!
