Watch out for tarantulas on the trail!
Ernest S.

While the park itself is not spectacular, it is the starting point for one of the best bike trails in Orange County (at least in my opinion) -- the Salt Creek Trail. We often will park in the lot then ride westward on the trail which connects to Salt Creek Beach (approx. 3.8 miles away). It's a hilly but scenic trail. If you have an ebike, it can make climbing the hills a lot easier and more enjoyable. We've seen quite a lot of wildlife on the trails near the park as well. This includes quails, tarantulas, and even a snake.

Chapparosa Park @ Laguna Niguel, CA

'A large, beautiful, 16.5 acre park, tucked away on a side street in Laguna Niguel, just off Golden Lantern. I take my dog, HAPA, a bullypit, regularly here for exercise & training. Photo - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/kHqC4MjzvtbUOem_QhOzzQ?select=JDSKLhwx_XnlSibA7joZsw There's lots of open space, dog friendly, clean, and so far the people I've met are pretty guh'roovie too. "Winnahs!" Excerpt from the City of Laguna Niguel's website: About Chapparosa Park - The Salt Creek paved trail starts at the end of the park. Park Amenities: 16.5 Acres 1 Tot Lot w/wood chips 1 Tire swing in sand 1 Rest Room 1 Pay Phone Drinking fountains 1 Lighted soccer field 2 Pony / Adult Softball fields/lighted 2 Lighted baseball fields 3 Full Basketball Courts 3 Volleyball Courts 4 Picnic Tables 4 Barbeques 227 Parking spaces (5 Handicapped) - Big Aloha! From the top looking down on the running path! The baseball fields are to the left and Niguel is to the right.

Great easy trail/walk from the park to Dana Point beach. It's a good 9 miles round trip. It's now my favorite trail.

Pretty good park, especially if you like soccer and baseball. Also a good place to park for the long walk to the beach.

The added butterfly garden and its butterfly chairs make it more special. The soccer fields are filled with kids and adults playing sports. The community center adds that final touch with rooms that can be rented for special events, meetings, and downstairs is access to the heated pool. 5/5 I have attended a few private events at the community center and its a great addition to the area.

The garden displays plants from the Mediterranean climate regions of the world. Some of the ones included are an Australian garden, California, Chilean, Formal, Rose, and South African garden. I liked how many of the bushes or plants had plaques with the plant names, so you knew what you were looking at. The preserve was a maze of little paths with a fair amount of stair climbing and some steep parts. This might not be the best for high heels if on a date or for bringing an elderly parent who can't walk too far. I loved all the wildflowers abound. Some highlights were the rose garden, (more rustic than manicured) the lily pond, and bridge.

My mom, sis & I wanted to spend some family time outdoors and Yelp didn't disappoint! This preserve was a breath of fresh air (literally) and the vitamin D we needed. It's an 18-acre public garden, featuring themed gardens, winding trails (cemented & rocky), and even a labyrinth. It's uber peaceful, with its well-curated botanical, natural landscapes ~ totally ideal for walking and exploring. We just wished we were dressed more appropriately for hiking lol (we were dressed more casual, from having brunch together in Newport). Lol Oh wells..next time for sure! The variety of different colored plants originating from all around the world ~ California, Chile, Australia, South Africa, and the Mediterranean were sooo pretty. The winding paths offered scenic walks with varying difficulty, including some uphill climbs and stairs. We saw wildlife of all sorts ~ birds, butterflies, squirrels, rabbits, cute lil lizards and bees. Beware of rattlesnakes in certain marked areas..which we stayed away from. Overall, a cool place to relax, get some exercise & fresh air. There are MANY cute photo op sceneries. We will definitely be back again to explore more of the trails. RxFoodie recommend and YAY, for an added trail for my weekend hikes!!!
