Whilst it has all the usual items that you might go to a Post Office to find, envelopes, jiffy bags, stationary and so on, it also has the worst some of the worst queues. I literally used to shiver with dread anytime I made an ebay sale thinking that I'd have to mooch down there and waste an hour in those awful queues, packed in with all those grumbling bodies. There was the occasional quirk, I found some comedy gold in the form of a silly compilation CD that I put in a parcel for my friend for £3, but other than that there are merely the horrid queues! It is situated opposite Tiger Tiger, it is a part of the St Johns Centre shopping mall and it is literally right next to one of the major bus stops in the city centre, which may go some way to explaining the high volume of customers! Although, on the flip side, it means there is really easy access. Essentially, it does everything a Post Office is supposed to do, it's just not that much of a pleasant experience whilst you are doing it.

They sell stamps, envelopes...the usual culprits and also have all of the important forms you may need for renewing your passport and the like. The staff who work in there are friendly and helpful, although there is one chap who insists on asking every time whether or not I would like a Post Office credit card. Still, he does it with a cheeky smile on his face and so I can forgive him for trying - just. They don't have anything especially exciting but they function as a perfectly reasonable Post Office, with helpful friendly staff. They are worth the mention purely as an alternative to the larger one in town!

Over lunch time, when everyone is rushing during their lunch break, they had only two people serving when there were about twenty people queueing. Now that post offices deal with so many other enquiries like paying bills, banking & checking forms for passports etc, a transaction at the counter can take so much longer than simply buying stamps. Today was no exception & one of the two servers got embroiled in a tricky issue, leaving just poor cashier #5 to try to get the queue moving. It took about 20 minutes (and once I'd got to the front of the queue, typically!) for them to bring out three extra staff onto the counters to deal with the ever-growing line of impatient people clutching various letters & parcels. However, when I did finally get served, the lady was lovely, apologetic & swift, so that did make up for the wait a little. They do have two self-service machines if you're just looking to post simple packages (UK or international) though one of the machines wasn't working on my visit so there was a queue there too. In general, this post office seems to have a good array of products - all the usual envelopes, packages, etc for purchase, & a photo booth. But perhaps it might be worth going at an off-peak time if you can!

It's quite a small shop but nonetheless I've never seen it particularly heaving, so if you are nipping through and need to post a parcel I can imagine this being a rather modest and simple task - certainly nothing like the hell of using the town post office, that's for sure! They sell all kinds of cheap booze deals, which is great for anyone living locally too. As well as that there are all the snacks, crisps, confectionary, stationary and other related newsy items that you could hope for. My favourite part is their uber, and I mean uber, awesome little sweet bags for £1. You get *loads* of delicious penny sweets in a huge bag for just a quid! Penny-sweet-tastic. The shop on the whole is reasonably friendly, certainly the chap at the counter was nice enough if nothing else. All in all, pretty handy to know about!

However, I will continue to fuel those rumours by my love of this Bargain Booze. Let me put this into perspective. Sometimes you want cheap booze but you also want cheap quality booze. Well this little beauty priovides the two. It's also useful for loads of stuff, getting rid of your letters and stocking up on some alcohol soaking snacks. I love my posh emporiums, I really do. From time to time though Bargain Booze fits the bill and this one especially. Maybe it's because it is en route to several of my friends houses or maybe it's because I actually am a tramp. Oh well, tramps these days have way too much access to the internet. I'll go find a dog to worry and some people to scare now but first up I'll get myself a fine bottle of red or even meths if I'm pushing the boat out. In all seriousness though this is a good stop off joint.

Newly refurbished with disabled access this small corner shop of a post office is very useful given…read morethe distance to any other service of this sort (half an hour to Headingly or the town centre) and the fact that it is in the centre of studentville/Hyde Park where a large number of people on low-incomes also reside thus providing a very convenient service. The usual post-office related items can be found, tasteless cards, envelopes of various sizes and other stationary. Staff are pleasant enough too and queue are minimal in the morning.

It may not have the resources for slightly more complex Post Office needs such as insurance and passport check and send services or a passport photo booth, but it does everything else you might expect in such an establishment. Envelopes, a small selection of stationary and advice on whatever your post needs may need. A necessity which completes the area, having everything one would need.

Still, if you don't drive, and live closer to Hyde Park than the back end of Meanwood (near a massive road and some not-so-nice areas -- especially non-user friendly if you're soley à piéd) it's still located in a really stupid place. Why is it there? Or, rather, why can't my parcels be sent to Headingley Post Office?! I'm sure there's a reason, and I'll defend the Post Office from being privatised any day of the week, but I also reserve the right to moan about it. Like a true Brit... P.s. It sells a variety of stationary and greetings cards as well as a small range of toys and gifts, sweets, cigarettes, newspaper, magazines and cold drinks. They also sell lottery tickets. Services include personal banking mobile and home phone top ups, international phonecards, travellers cheques, foreign currency, travel insurance, postal orders , car and home insurance, free cash withdrawals, bill payments and international money transfer. The staff seem friendly and helpful and queues don't usually take too long.

Nevertheless, on many an occasion I have had a handful of items, such as ebay parcels, late birthday cards and so on, to post and simply dreaded the idea of the queues that would await me in Headingley or Leeds. They are virtually never busy, and when they are the queue is a ten-minute wait, not a forty-minute wait. They have friendly helpful staff who have not once, ever offered me a Post Office credit card (I hate it when they do that!) and they have a few extra simply stationary supplies should you require.
