Lychee No Jito filled with ice. Basically it was ice with some drink lightly poured on top.

Food was okay. I ordered the Tum Yum (sp) soup, which was very good, the satay which was fried and while the chicken was really fresh it didn't taste like authentic satay, and a stir fry dish (first on the menu) which was also okay and didn't taste authentic. With a name like Chaophraya, where I've been, I'd imagine more genuine flavors but the food is too fusion for my taste. I also ordered a lychee no-jito, which was so packed with ice I couldn't get the straw down to the bottom wo a good fight. Essentially there were just a few sips of drink in the tall glass -- waste of money. It was a little confusing to locate, but it's a really pretty restaurant with the promise of a great view of the city. Why promise? Bc the hostess didn't let me sit at an empty table by the window since I didn't have a reservation, and the small table of two remained empty the entire time. I don't know why hosts/hostesses go on this silly power trip. It was a nice private table and I was dining alone. She could've been nice about it. I wasn't wild about the service either. The waitress though v nice disappeared for most of my dinner so I was there a lot longer than I intended. It's a nice place to try for the ambience and decent food, but I wouldn't revisit.

Really great food - the view was very pretty too. I got an appetizer and the tofu and cashews for my entree. The waiter was very helpful when I couldn't decide what to get! Would definitely dine here again - would love to come for dinner and try more of the impressive menu. I will say it gave that type of restaurant feel where it definitely feels cleaner and more polished at nighttime. Came for lunch and it was a little less... polished.

With the Christmas bubble and travel restrictions tightening in Scotland, what better reason for us to indulge (and drown our sorrows...) than to try a luxurious takeaway from Chaophraya, and all from the comfort of our own home! We ordered: Chaophraya Platter for two people, Chicken Pad Thai, Prawn Thai Red Curry, and coconut rice. The taste of each mouthful was so fresh and delicious, it brought back memories of us trying out street food during our 2017 trip around Thailand. Judging by the meal we had, the owners certainly haven't lost their passion for producing mouthwatering food and you can truly taste the authentic Thai flavours and ingredients in every single dish they make. We can't wait to return and hopefully be able to dine in the restaurant in the new year! To read our full review, please visit: https://www.sandlblog.com/post/chaophraya-at-home

Mixed starters

First of all, the view is worth 5 stars alone. If you can get a table in the glass box at the back, you're treated to a panoramic view of Edinburgh, from the castle to the Pentlands to the Forth. Magnificent, and surely one of the best views in town. Even if you can't get the view, the décor and style of the place is very nice, with statues, fish tank and generally upmarket feel. In fact, as you walk up the stairs and enter the main dining room, it feels like you've misread the menu and this isn't the place you'd planned to pop into for a £6.95 plate of pad thai at lunch. The service is very attentive, if not in fact too obsequious for comfort. I know it's a Thai culture thing, but I don't really like being waited on by Uriah Heep. Most 'umble, most 'umble. In keeping with the upmarket style of the interior, the presentation of the food is beautiful. Especially with mixed starters, everything is arranged handsomely on the serving dishes, supplemented with stylish cutlery and place settings and even the menu design. So overall, it's a stylish establishment with a view to die for and inexpensive lunch prices. Sad to say, in the end, the food didn't live up to the surroundings. We've been twice now, and both times the food was pleasant enough, but lacking in zing and certainly lacking in spice. The curry had no chilli whatsoever, and was made with strange large smooth slices of chicken breast that resembled thick chicken loaf. My pad thai was lacking in any citrus or tamarind tang, and didn't come with a wedge of lime to spritz over the top, which was sorely needed in this case. It was all ok, but so westernised as to be bland. Giving it 4 stars because if you're looking to have a stylish lunch with a grand view, then this is a good bet. A glass of wine and a couple of sharing platters is quite pleasant, but don't go looking for an authentic or tongue-tingling sensation, when there are many other Thai restaurants in the city.

Tasty mixed platter!!

I was gutted when Tony Singh announced he was closing Olorosso, for 10 years it was a beacon of good food in the city. The views, the food and the service made for a great restaurant. But as cities have a habit of doing we soon move on and in the place has come Chaophraya, they are on Twitter @ChaophrayaEdi. Steph and I love a walk in town after the farmers market on a Saturday and decided to try this place for lunch. There is something grand about having to get an elevator to a restaurant and then the stunning staircase makes for a beautiful setting. They have lunch and a la carte menus giving plenty of choice but for our lunch we opted for their house mixed platter. This came with smoked salmon tacos, a chicken curry, papaya salad and Thai ribs. At a very reasonable £10.95 this was perfect. The balance of spice, fragrance and sweetness was well managed and we both left wanting for more. We will be back and this place comes highly Jd Recommended! Posted with Blogsy

The restaurant is on the top floor and after a swift elevator trip and a few stairs you are greeted into an opulent and grand dining & bar area. The fish tank is obviously the main focal point. We were seated next to the tank and it provided and calming effect I found. on seating we received a bowl with cassava crackers and sweet chili dip to nibble on when choosing or dishes. We have been advised by previous visitors to not go for any sharing starters, thus I opted for the King Prawn and Mango Salad and Anita A. took the Chicken Satay Skewers. The prawn salad was a let down. No real taste apart from the occasional punch of charcoal - the mango was a tad bland. The chicken satay was nice lightly flavoured and the peanut sauce was not carrying any heat, but was flavoursome if a little sweet. For main I choose the pork belly with green beans, peppers, basil and chili. And a side dish of sticky rice. Anita had a beef curry dish with white rice. Missing the flavours on my dish I asked for additional chili flakes and soya sauce. The pork belly was cooked very well - with crispy bits! I used the sauce from Anita's curry dish to flavour my rice, which was very nice and well cooked We finished with espresso and a brandy. The Service was efficient, friendly and in all very good. Napkin placement, crumbing and genuinely interested how we liked our meals. I was hoping for a little more in regards to the food, it wasn't dressed nor very tasty. Adequate which is in stark contrast to the location and the service.

I have eaten here 3 times & loved the experience each time. The waiters are friendly & attentive & the food delicious. I started off with a frozen strawberry Daquiri which was quite large & very delicious. We then moved onto the Asian platter as a starter & loved everything on the plate especially the tempura prawns & the pork. My husband had the teriyaki lamb & would definitely have it again he enjoyed it that much. For dessert I had the deep fried ice cream which was scrumptious & my husband had the bananas in coconut milk (warm) which he could have had 2 servings of. We ended the meal with some fragrant flowering teas - love watching them bloom before my eyes. Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you enjoy Thai cuisine. Lovely views of Edinburgh & a very relaxed atmosphere.

This is probably the worst service I've received in Edinburgh. Very disappointing. As a world traveler, we've been to so many countries. Food is also one of our favorite things in our journey. However, our server here was so mean, and we don't feel welcomed at all. Probably never gonna be back.

I am sure I have written a review for this place before but think it's worth updating it…read more This is by far one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. And anywhere really. I'll tell you why... Firstly, the food is always outstanding. I typically go chicken or prawn panang. It's gorgeous. And sometimes gaeng massaman. Also gorgeous. I've tried a few of their stir-frys which are equally as lovely and I think once Pad Thai...always yummy. But in a thai restaurant like this I tend to steer clear of Pad Thai as there's so many gorgeous dishes. I like to try a different starter each time I go and I have never been disappointed. Secondly, Everything always tastes fresh and flavourful. I find the portions to be slightly large unless I'm sharing with someone. Between a starter and main you're stuffed. Thirdly, I tend to eat here once a month, sometimes twice because of the above (and I love Thai food) but mainly for the fact that the owner and staff are just absolutely lovely. They always greet us warmly and the ones that recognise us always ask how we are. I have been bringing my son (7 now) here since he was 4 and they are as happy to receive him now as they were then. And they often give him a free kids ice-cream because they are just awesome like that. Not once have I ever been uncomfortable eating there with my son. They never made me feel awkward or badly for when he was messier and louder. They have always been brilliant. Fourthly, to expand on my previous point they so obviously love their local repeat customers. I just recently went for dinner here for my birthday. The owner who had come over to chat with us asked what we were celebrating and when I told him he graciously offered is desserts on the house :) who would mind that?! (Just to point out it there was only 2 of us) Fifthly, I don't love their dessert selection and I LOVE dessert. But I don't care as I'm too full from the amazing starter and mains. However I had the lemon sorbet and that was really nice. Came in a real frozen lemon as well! So that's my love of Phuket Pavillion in 5 crucial points I suppose. I could talk about their prices but let's be realistic...Thai food in Edinburgh is pricey. And there's a few better known places that have the worst service and average food that charge the same or more (chaopraya for one).

This restaurant presents as very sensitive to allergies and dietary requirements, with statements on its menu speaking to the care that is taken in ingredient selection and food preparation. I got the green curry, spicy ("Thai spicy" explained the waiter) and holy moly it was so good. It did not feel at all like I got a white girl version of a Thai spicy dish, it was nice and warm and balanced and delicious. My co-diners got pad Thai and a duck dish, and both were super happy with their meals. I highly recommend this place.

Given the location, it's a bit of a hidden gem but definitely worth the visit if you're after some tasty Thai food. They have a good selection of starters, main courses and chef's specials. Also some fusion type dishes are featured, e.g. Khua Khun Mae Special in the starters section, which is traditional Scottish haggis with Thai style seasoning. Sounds interesting, but I went for the deep fried king prawns with Thai beer batter served with a homemade mango sweet sauce. They were lovely - three large morsels with a tasty dipping sauce which wasn't too sweet. For main course I had a duck stir fry. Again, absolutely delicious - tender and very tasty duck with vegetables. Note that they do ask you how hot you would like your food. The waitress was very friendly and polite.

I usually come in before noon as the first customer, but the space fills up within minutes as lunch time rolls around. I have tried a variety of items from their menu from rice & noodles, curry, soups, sides, and more; all have been delicious, heartwarming, and affordable. Some things I have tried thus far are the Ped Nam Pueng (£6.80) with Garlic Noodles (£1.60). These were the perfect pair as the ped nam pueng was flavored with a sweet and savory marinade in slices of duck meat and chopped vegetables. I mixed the garlic noodles into the sauce, which brought out even more texture and flavor into the dish --definitely recommend. Another visit on a rainy day (per usual) had me craving some warm soup, so ordered the Tom Yam Goong (£5) with Noodles (+£1). The hot and sour spicy soup was refreshing and flavorful. There was plenty of noodles, prawns, and mushrooms for a fulfilling meal. I also decided to add a side of Peng Gai Kao Prik (£3.40), which came with a bowl of spicy chicken wings. Although the pieces were small, there were 10 of them which was quite the value for the price. The spices and seasoning packed heat into the crispy wings; and make sure to soak in the juices at the bottom for extra flavor too --yum! This place has easily become a weekly lunch ritual for me. So thankful an affordable and delicious Thai spot opened up nearby!

For those familiar with original place, you'll know the food is top notch quality and yummy! They've also opened up an adjoining bar called The Bangkok bar which serves Thai street food. V handy if you're down that end of town for drinks and fancy a tasty small bite alternative. Sometimes Thai food just hits the boozing spot like nothing else!! I've not tried the cocktails but I'm assured by a friend they're worth a trip. I tried the main restaurant on Saturday night as part of a big group celebrating a friends birthday. They were more than happy to accommodate large groups, balloons and birthday cake. Nothing was an issue at all. Wine wasn't overpriced. Instead of my normal go-to Thai options I mixed it up a bit with a starter of Marinated quail and a main of Osso Bucco Massaman. The quail was delish! Crispy, salty, tasty. I would have sucked the bones dry if I wasn't trying to be a lady in front of the group! Ha ha. A really nice alternative to chicken. I'm not sure i was entirely sold on the main though which is probably my aversion to hunks of meat and bone, not a reflection of the quality of the dish. The meat was slow cooked and tender, but I was put off a bit with the sliced bit of bone marrow in the centre. I guess I'm not an Osso Bucco kinda gal really. Its definitely in a "man food" category. The sauce was amaaaaazing though! I had a few spoons waved my way for a taste. This place is well worth a visit!!!
