Tried this place on a late lunch Jan 2, 2010. We were the only customers in there. There was two of…read moreus and we opted for the set menu lunch at £6.98 per person. I had the veg spring roll starter and a king prawn main course, my friend had the veg tempura (big starter) and a chicken 'something' main course, both were accompanied by boiled rice. My king prawn dish was quite chilli but it did say chillies in the menu, so no problems there. The quality of both dishes was quite acceptable and although i have had better, I have had a lot worse also. the Thai beer was good too, with another couple of waters the bill came to around £20. The service was friendly and because we eat around London Road quite often, it did'nt bother us that the place was empty, I've seen quite a few diners in there in the evenings when passing by . My only critiscms would be that 1) The Ala carte menu prices are quite pricey for the 'outlook' of the Restaurant, ie. casual type setting in a highly competitive area ( I can relate to this from a business point of view but there comes a point where you need to draw an invisible line). 2) The menu is bi-lingual (thai and english), this is not a problem however some of the dish names are quite awkard to pronounce with inclusions like 'prik' in them, and the name of the place it self thai 'Punna' reminisent of Ali G and Ghetto slang. Sorry for my ignorance maybe........

Pretty middle of the road. To be fair this was probably more to do with our poor selection out of…read morethe menu; we both ordered quite similar dishes which might not have given this place a good opportunity to show what it could do. Probably should have gone for a firm favourite, like Thai curry or something. Nice jasmine rice though. Would be prepared to give it another go.

This popular Chinese restaurant and takeaway is open every day from noon onwards and offers a wide…read morerange of cut-price offers and unusual delicacies. Inside, the place is both well themed and deceptively spacious, and staff open up a false wall, leading into another room whenever things get busy, meaning that customers are highly unlikely to ever end up having to wait around to get a table. A Sunday Lunch all-you-can-eat buffet is available for £8.99 and China House even sells a small range of Thai and Japanese dishes. The menu is well-priced, the staff are friendly, the service is fast and the food is of a good standard. I'd definitely visit again.

Set meals? Meh. Soup? Yeah yeah. Restaurant also offering takeaway service? Who doesn't? No, where…read moreChina House comes into its own is with offshoot menus offering both Thai and, more unusually, Japanese fare. There's also a hint of - woop - Malaysian food! Add to all this a meaningful children's menu which refuses to go down the nuggets line and seven-days-a-week (and most bank holidays) opening and we're really onto something. A four-and-a-half-hour Sunday buffet rounds things off. Hopefully that's enough to get you through the door. The venue itself is fine, but the location is at best blink-and-you'll-miss-it and at worst, undermined by a shopping precinct setting. Wylde Green is fine and that Birmingham Road stretch, like nearby Boldmere, is one of the few commercial strips still bearing independent traders. It's just a shame that the precise part in which China House lies is just that bit too 'concrete' - you half expect parkour jumpers. Logging onto the website to view the menu should be enough to get you past appearances.
