A moderately sized church with about 600 on a Sunday, from infants to senior citizens. Good security set up with children's ministry. Friendly and welcoming worship pastor. Offers Sunday School classes for both children and adults at their later 2 services (9:30 and 11) though the early service (8am) has no child care or Sunday School (which may be nice for those looking for a quieter atmosphere). A mix of modern and traditional worship - no fancy fog machines or complicated lighting. We sang 2 contemporary songs and a hymn. The music is up just loud enough that you can worship but still hear your voice singing along.
There's a rotating team of 3 pastors who all take turns teaching, which is nice because they all have a different style and you may like one more than another. I like getting different opinions rather than just one, too.
But 3 things stood out to me about this church: 1, being the multicultural atmosphere. There are lyrics in English and Chinese on the worship slides, and live translation of the sermon into both Chinese and Spanish. They even have Sunday classes taught in those languages, too.
2, it's not over the top. I can't stand churches that show you that all their money goes right back into their own stuff. While the place is nice, there aren't fancy chairs or pastors teaching from iPads. You can tell the money goes to their missionaries, who have a whole wall in the foyer. It was neat to see different cultures focused on both in the church and outside of it.
3, being known. During the service, an elder came up and prayed. Now, it was a longer prayer than I'm used to (about 10 minutes) but it was interesting what was prayed for - people of the church, with their issue and circumstance by name. I'm assuming these people are members or others who have said it's okay to mention these things in prayer to the whole group, but it's been a long time since I was in a church who prayed for people by name. It made a full room feel more intimate, and it shows that these people know each other.
It seems like a good church and I think I'll go back. read more
