Having watched newcasts all over the country, I can tell you that 6ABC Action News is legit. Even comparing within the city, Action News is the standard barer. I watch most nites, but on the rare occasion which I am forced to watch channel 3 or 10 (say, there's a college football game going on) it is simply shameful comparing the quality of their newscasts to that of Action News. What sets Action News apart from the others is a variety of things. The newscasters themselves, of course, are first and foremost. I could go on and on all day about how wonderful the likes of Jim Gardener and Lisa Thomas-Laury have been for literally decades now, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Action News consistently recruits the best talent and trains them seemingly overnite. While other newscasts flounder with anchor changes over and over, Action News seems to be a breeding ground for raw talent like Brian Taff and Adam Jospesh, to name just two. Furthermore, the content is better. Action News is proported to have invented the "it bleeds, it leads" mantra now adopted by most regional news stations across the country. While this is hardly a compliment, it stands as proof of its place as a beacon of innovation within the news community. The others follow; Action News leads. Not what it used to be to be. 6 ABC Action News format has turned into a time filler with very little information. You may get one new story a day, but not a lot of information in it, or what you are told is wrong because they want to be first reporting it without checking the facts. The rest of the news is filled in with stories from the internet that is several days old, repeats of the same story day after day and the usual Disney self promoting segment. The only time that I watch major network TV is to get weather information. What usually leads local TV is: CRIME, TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, SPORTS. Our Philadelphia TV stations usually give a good weather report, although I cannot believe that Adam Joseph said on 1/11/2023 on the 620pm report that Philadelphia PA had not had accumulating or measurable snow since 1972. Where does he obtain these data? Did he miss the BLIZZARD of '96 with 30+ inches of show that paralyzed the city for days? This is the reason that I am a PBS member and subscriber and Netflix customer. Major network TV is fatuous trash. Half of all the programs are crammed with advertising. Adam Joseph - had I wanted a weather forecast telling me what's happening in the other side of the country, I would have googled it. Had I wanted an explanation of upper and lower air flow, 18 possible tracks, etc., I would have become a meteorologist. I'm sure there's plenty of social media for this information. The rest of us want to know 8f it's going to be hot or cold, rain, thunderstorms, snow and a believable approximate accumulation without 10 different tracks, etc. I stopped watching another Philadelphia newscast because they couldn't get close to a correct forecast. WPVI was different and I liked it - at first. I don't want to feel as though I'm in an extended seminar for meteorology . WPVI took down their over the air signal a decade ago. They claimed it's the most watch station which is false. You would think a broadcast station in Philadelphia would provide a usable signal in the city. In NE Philadelphia if you want to watch ABC you need cable or satellite to do so. When contacting them they said it was the Antenna. However after trying multiple antennas get all the other broadcast stations NBC and CBS as well as many others. If you can't afford cable you can't watch a TV station who refused to provide a usable signal to their viewers who used to watch them for over 55 years read more

I've watched ABC NEWS since I was in elementary school, getting ready to hit 68 this year. It was my go to for local news just as it was for my father. As this app developed I noticed less current and local news and more biased " reporting " , when the "TOP STORIES " of the day feature stories that ran days ago and are no longer accurate yet this station doesn't seem to follow up with new developments just a rerun of the original article, the other features like the weather and 'manage my news' don't even function. For news go to BBC , NHK or any other news service this app is simply a waste of space and memory. read more

The news crew for the weather on WPVI is no less than amazing. Each of the meteorologists is concerned with reporting accurately and succinctly. When they are speaking, it seems like they are talking to their family...When severe weather hits, not only do they report accurately, they show their concern for the safety of their viewers and it is heartfelt. There is a sense of comfort that is felt after watching their newscast, especially during times of severe weather. What a compassionate and competent team...thanks WPVI! read more

This channel's news has become the corporate report. Since Disney takeover there is no more news rather it is a sanitized corporate sales pitch for everything Disney. Watching the weather and noting how they IGNORE our upcoming Christian holidays including GoodFriday and Easter is typical. I've grown up with Ch 6 since I was a child. I prefer their news stories and really think their weather is better than any of the other stations. As with any news station, I really wish there was less focus on the negative news stories and find more positive, happy stories to let us know about. Worst dressed as far as the females( particularly the weekend weather woman ; McGee and the weekday a.m. gal, Karen Rogers ) Always solids, never a striking standout pattern for their garments, especially with the $$$ they make in the business; typically always sleaveless .. even in the dead of winter. Big egos on most of them with the exception of Gardner. The Sports Dept is the world's worst in the market. Totally local, shortest stories given maybe 45 seconds usually. I am by far not a NY fan, but when the NY Mets won the 2000 NLCS to reach the subway series, was never touched upon. They discussed Flyers training camp instead. That goes for most other out of town teams. All Philadelphia solely. The order of the stories is screwed up at the top of the hour as well. If a bomb hit the U.S., WPVI would cover a fire in West Philly first. read more
