I watch most nites, but on the rare occasion which I am forced to watch channel 3 or 10 (say, there's a college football game going on) it is simply shameful comparing the quality of their newscasts to that of Action News. What sets Action News apart from the others is a variety of things. The newscasters themselves, of course, are first and foremost. I could go on and on all day about how wonderful the likes of Jim Gardener and Lisa Thomas-Laury have been for literally decades now, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Action News consistently recruits the best talent and trains them seemingly overnite. While other newscasts flounder with anchor changes over and over, Action News seems to be a breeding ground for raw talent like Brian Taff and Adam Jospesh, to name just two. Furthermore, the content is better. Action News is proported to have invented the "it bleeds, it leads" mantra now adopted by most regional news stations across the country. While this is hardly a compliment, it stands as proof of its place as a beacon of innovation within the news community. The others follow; Action News leads. When I want to know what's going on in Philly, there's only one place to turn- Action News! *Cue the sweet music*

Koob is a supposedly a Stones guy and while I am too, if it's not one of the warhorses he for the most part doesn't play it. He apparently thinks that if the song is not on the first disc from 40 Licks it can't be played. Gardner is annoying beyond belief and his foaming homer shtick with the Beatles is old. While I give him credit for actually playing deep cuts, when one out of every three songs is a Beatles, McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, or Ringo song all I can say is My Sweet Lord play some variety. Calton has it together the best out of the four. (I won't even touch on that dope DeBella.) But even still her shtick is to play more of the softer songs and the "chick rockers" more like Benatar or Heart. And just like the rest of the DJ's you might hear Heart but anything past Barracuda and Straight On is apparently a "deep track" reserved for those special weekends when they go into the "vault". It's tired formats and even more tired playlists from stations like this that make people move to satellite.

When I first started listening to WMMR, the number of Steven Singer jewelry references was just so much, I some how thought they were related... some how... Question: has anyone ever bought or received those gold plated roses for Valentine's Day that Steven Singer sells? Now that I'm in LA, I don't actually listen to WMMR anymore, and most good radio stations here have been converted to top 40 stations. Le sigh.
