My family and I were touring Frankfurt today while on holiday. The weather is quite warm so we were dressed in practical shoes, shorts, and tee shirts. Prior to stopping at Chanel, we made some big purchases at other high end stores in the area such as Gucci and Meissen (to name a few).
My husband, his daughters, his cousin, and myself all approached the Chanel store, during regular business hours. As we attempted to enter, the doorman would not allow us to come inside to shop. He told us that the store was too full, even though we could see it was virtually empty. We said "oh" and stepped off to the side to wait a bit. Three people exited, and still we were not permitted to enter. Then, a group of women approached and they were immediately let in along with a second pair of women. It was obvious then that my family was being barred entry and discriminated against because we were dressed in a casual manner. The implementation of such an obviously discriminatory policy at this particular store is a huge mistake because in doing so, Chanel lost out on multiple potential sales from our family both now and in the future.
We ended up going across the street to Prada where they were more than happy to help us. We purchased more shoes and another handbag there.
After this experience at the Frankfurt Chanel, I will never purchase another item made by Chanel. They need to learn to treat all potential customers equally. Often, those with money to spend, do not choose to advertise their wealth with jewels and fancy outfits during a hot summer day while on vacation. The manager of this store should be fired for requiring their staff to treat potential customers so rudely. Never in my life have I witnessed such terrible customer service. It truly reminded me of that scene in the movie "Pretty Woman" when Julia Robert's character is turned away from a shop on Rodeo Drive. We all know how that turned out. Sadly, the situation here was no different. What a disgrace Chanel has become. read more
