They include some things like a barn tour, and they ride a pony at the end of the year for the 4 year old class, but they aren't outside playing or incorporating outside learning. They are largely inside with ditto sheets, and doing typical preschool curriculum (ABCs, 123s), circle time, coloring on a coloring sheet, music, art and PE. That was a little disappointing and maybe I should have done more research on it. There also aren't stations in the class. They get moved to various locations like the music room, PE, library and that was not a fit for my kid. She was afraid of having to leave the classroom as a child getting used to going to school for the first time. The farm felt big for her They are also not very supportive if you have a child who regresses with the potty. They need to be 100% potty trained and must stay home if they have 2 accidents in a week. If you need an accommodation, like using a different potty in the building, that's not accommodated. Their stance on child psychology and education principles are largely old - school and not at all geared towards the child. It's more one size fits all. There is also limited time to volunteer in the class if you want, or even interact with the teachers. You drop off at the door, pick up later, and need to call the front office to schedule anything further. You don't get many updates on your child, just a "they did good or they had a hard day " if your child is out sick or for another issue, they do not check in after an extended period of time. I found that to be strange. Communication lacks as there is no email or way to communicate with parents outside a red folder with some assignments and a calendar. There is an app they use for (I think weather alerts?) but they never once updated it with any information. If you have a concern you have to call the office. They could benefit from an upgrade into the year 2024 on how to communicate with parents and use technology. For a parent with a 3 year old or 4 trying school for the first time, I can imagine communication feels very important to feel your kid is ok. I'm writing this as neutral as possible for parents to make up their own mind on if this could be a fit for their child. A huge positive is the option for half day Kindergarten when that time comes. The class sizes are also fairly small.

I contacted three stables in the area and all but Hazelwild gave me the runaround; requesting call backs and emails only to be told in the end that they were available for the service I was requesting. My time and effort were wasted and I ended up having no time to develop an alternate plan. However the Hazelwild staff were responsive and let me know the first time what they offered and that they were unavailable for me. I can't say how much I appreciated that.

So I actually visited back in January, I was greeted & treated with respect (which was really nice) everyone was kind, happy and actually had us excited for my daughter to start! So last week I dropped off all the paperwork to enroll my daughter except for a lease or deed & 2 bills in my name @ my address & I was actually in & out pretty quickly! (It definitely didn't take as long as it did to enroll my son!) Only thing that bothered me really, was when we were coming out of the bathroom there was a teacher in the hallway with a male student, about 5th grade or so I believe, with a teacher & there was obviously a problem that happened in the class which the teacher had removed the students because of! What bothered me was while the teacher was talking or going over the disciplinary action that was going to be taken she had her hands on the student sort of grabbing his upper arms & the kid was yelling @ the teacher! When we got back into the office there were 2 other students who I assumed were part of or the cause of the disruption because one boy had tears steadily running down his face & the other boy was yelling at the office lady trying to tell her what happened! It was at this point I thought to myself that it must have been really bad & after whatever happened the teacher did the right thing by separating the kids & they obviously don't know how to act because my children would NEVER yell at a staff member at their school none the less disrespect an adult or a class mate! So I immediately felt differently after seeing the bigger picture! Once that was over we were given the rest of information on what to expect with the enrollment & then we were good to go! I went back the next day to drop off the deed & even though it was the end of the day on a Friday we were helped pretty quickly to get the copies made & was given a 30 day extension on getting the 2 bills in my name @ my new address! All in all my daughter hasn't even started the school yet & I already love it! I just hope there are no bullies here but honestly I've heard nothing but good things about this school so I really hope that we didn't get our hopes up for nothing! Once she's been there for a month or so I can update my review!

We are also deeply grateful to Mr. Robert and Abigail for being so welcoming, kind, and supportive from the very beginning. They created an environment where our family felt valued and cared for. If it weren't for the unexpected changes in our family's circumstances, we would have gladly allowed Elgar to continue his educational journey at Oak Hill. We will always be thankful for the love, guidance, and positive impact the Oak Hill team had on our son and our family.

Not to mention, the staff, the headmaster and his family, are all so incredibly kind and an excellent reflection of core Christian values that I want my son to be influenced by. The building is extremely clean and well-maintained, which I truly appreciate as a visitor. I also love that the league is indoor. It's so nice knowing the kids have a safe, comfortable place to play regardless of the weather. They usually run two games at the same time with a partition dividing the gym, which seems to work well and keeps things organized. Overall, I'm grateful they provide a space like this for youth sports and families to enjoy. Great environment and well run!
