I'm writing this as a real fan because Chance in Hell is easily one of the most creative and flavorful snoball stands in the city. Everybody always says Hansen's is the best, but I'm sorry... they just can't compete with Chance in Hell, no matter what anyone says. Handcrafted syrups, quality ingredients, and that ice... listen. If you're really from New Orleans, you KNOW the difference between a snoball and a snow cone. That ice is so fine, so soft, it literally melts in your mouth. You really be like, "What ICE?!" It's up there, for real. And the space? Baby... it's a whole experience. Perfectly curated to their brand. Very show-stopping, very show girl, all the drama in the best way. It's beautiful, it's fun, it's a vibe. It is more on the pricier side. With the quality of the Snoball. The difference is in the details. Honestly, they're one of the main reasons we surviving this heat. There really is a Chance in Hell lol.
TLDR: Some of the best snoballs in New Orleans with unreal texture, creative flavors, great vibes, and wonderful owners. A must stop when they are in season. New Orleans style snoballs were completely new to me, so I did my homework to find one of the best spots that was still open late in the season. Most places shut down after October, so we were lucky to catch Chance in Hell on their very last day before closing for the year. It did not disappoint. I ordered the apple pie ice, which came loaded with cream, real apple pieces, and warm baking spices throughout. It was nothing short of revolutionary. I have tried shaved ice in many forms including Korean bingsu in Seoul, powdery shaved ice in Tokyo, and several renditions in Baltimore and Philadelphia. This New Orleans style snoball honestly takes the cake. The consistency is unreal. Velvety and smooth with no crunch at all. It practically melts the moment it hits your mouth. When you pair that texture with the creative flavor combinations that Chance in Hell is known for, it becomes a perfect match made in Heaven or Hell in their playful theme. The shop itself is also a total vibe with its retro carnival themed red and white interior and exterior which made it a fun place to enjoy our icy creations. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and clearly take pride in what they do. Overall, an absolute gem and one that I will plan my next trip around so I can catch them in peak season.
Five HUGE stars! Definitely worth the uber ride out of the French Quarter for this incredible snowball experience. LOVED my lavender earl grey; the inside is so cute! Staff is super friendly and nice; they make syrups in-house.
I have been wanting to come here forever and finally made it on the most dreary day ever. It was so worth the wait. Truly THE BEST snowball. It's not over cloyingly sweet. It's just right. I got the Ube and it was delicious to the last bite. I of course went over board and had it stuffed. Cutest place and beyond generous with their toppings. So good. A must try if you want good elevated snowballs.
So creative. So cute. Cool ass people behind the counter. Also comes with sweet puppies in the window. If you get the chance, walk around the Bywater and go to the park nearby. Love coming here! They have very interesting flavors and a pretty limited menu, so you can't get too overwhelmed.
I am soooo behind on this one but I need to write them a proper review! I know this isn't the original snowball place that most people may recommend but it was worth the visit ! I am used to snowballs being somewhat fine chunks of ice that have a ton of syrup glazed over it and maybe some bites have too much syrup or not enough syrup. And sometimes if I'm in the mood might have some marshmallows so this might give you an idea of where I'm from but the snowballs a chance in hell snowballs were on a whole different level. The ice is so fine the moment it touches your tongue it literally just melts. I opted for the Ube flavor in typically because of the syrup, I usually get more thirsty after I'm done eating snowballs, but with this one, it was so refreshing. I can only imagine the sensation if I were eating this on a hot summer day. They had some unique flavors and my husband my mother-in-law and I all got different flavors that we tried each other others and I can't say anything wrong about any of them. They were well balanced somehow the savory flavors worked as a dessert and I can't wait till the next time I can go back. Something I learned on this trip is that snowballs here are available from Mardi Gras until around Halloween so just something for you to note if you are traveling, but I was told that they do pop-ups here and there a little outside of the season. Their overall service was amazing. They are very friendly, very knowledgeable and had great recommendations. So if you're in the area, I highly recommend.
we didn't get a chance (ahaha) to come here last time but yay!! wanted to cool off from the heat after being out and about all day. the menu seems to change every so often -- we got pineapple and nectar (vanilla and almond esque flavors) and it was a sugar rush fr and with condensed milk yommy the line was never ending, i loved the art decor all around, and great to see the community come here to enjoy some snowballs ^_____^
Once you get a snowball from Chance in Hell, you won't be able to name a better snowball stand. The ice is the smoothest in New Orleans. However, the show-stoppers are the house made syrups made from natural ingredients. My particular favorite is the Ube, but I haven't had a flavor that left me disappointed yet. Just be aware, depending on the day you visit, you might have to wait in line a little bit. However, the service is amazing, and the snowballs are of great quality, so it's definitely worth the wait.
I finally made it to the brick and mortar store. I've done the house snowballs about 3 to 5 times. It was always hard to catch them because these girls also have other jobs. Glad to see them successful in a business with a brick and mortar shop. As usual, they had a great selection of flavors that are freshly made. The line was out the door as usual but only 7-8 people total. I've seen people wait with 25 people. It's not for me, but I'll wait with 10 to 12 people. I got the sour grape. They also had lemon with basil, root beer, strawberry cream, and pineapple oil, and cream de minthe. This is always a great treat on a warm summer day and sometimes even when it's raining. They also have popcorn, meat pies(they were sold out today), and deviled eggs, which I highly recommend. Check out the menu pictures you can also get ice for your dogs. Everything is all NATCH. And some vegan options. This is definitely a bucket list if you're in the area. The place has a great ambience has a lot of good art. They got T-shirts for sale and stickers. Do yourself a favor and take a chance in hell and have a snowball. Congratulations to Kitten & Lou and the rest of the staff. The only thing I did wrong was I didn't take a picture. I just ate it cause it was hot and it was cooling and delicious.
Still a fantastic stop with such a cute vibe! The flavors are incredibly refreshing, and the folks are always kind and helpful! A little pricey, but a worthwhile sweet treat in the heat of the summer!
Unique and delicious snowball flavors. Many of the flavors are vegan. I had the calamansi and sour grape. Both were tasty, but I really enjoyed their sour grape. It's cool that they rotate exciting flavors that you can find in other places. I believe that only on Mondays they have vegan beans and rice, and they were so yummy!
I love this place. This is my first time and I was not prepared for how cool it looks inside. It's definitely got the snoball stand vibe, but also old school movie theater and circus combo. Their syrup is house made and you can tell. I went with the mandarin basil flavor. They have the option to spike it to make it boozy and of course I did. I went with vodka, but they have pretty much whatever alcohol to complement whatever flavor you going with. The owners are in there working and they are amazing. So run don't walk and go get a snoball. They also have a cool thrift shop next door. Win win. read more

I've had this place bookmarked forever. I was so happy that my Airbnb was close by. I stopped in as soon as they opened. The inside smells amazing and is so bright and happy-feeling. I am a huge fan of snowballs, and this one was great. You'll probably have a hard time choosing a flavor because they all sound so good, but they'll let you taste the syrup beforehand to help you make your decision. read more

Even though these aren't "traditional" snowballs, this place is my all time favorite snowball stand. The snacks are also amazing! I tell people this place is my snowball plug lol because they have all type of exotic/rare flavors. Also - The owners are amazing entertainers who are involved with their community! read more

I think the business is located at the owner's house so street parking is limited. It may be best to try and find parking a little ways away and walk to the spot. When you get in line, they have cute little umbrellas you can use since it's so hot outside. My friend and I took so many pictures with them The owners were so lovely and their dogs were so cute! I thought the snowballs were lovely. You can get condensed milk added on top for free (vegan is $1) so of course I did that. I think that pistachio flavor is such a gem. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary flavors, I really do think that's the way to go. If I had a complaint, it's just that it was too big, haha. But I think for the service and everything else, the price is reasonable. Can't wait to go back! read more

We went to Chance in Hell Snoballs on Friday when they have their $9 triple flight sampler. We tried the Iced Mocha, Sour Cherry, and Grapefruit Basil. They all were delicious! We also got condensed milk on a few, yum! They are located at the Bywater Brew Pub but make sure you check their Instagram for hours and flavors. Since they're small batch and handcrafted, their menu changed weekly. It's a super cute walk up set up with great customer service. read more
These two ladies are rocking it in the Bywater!!! Simple but very smooth operation currently being run off their front porch.m with unique and innovative flavors plus they can make it adult ;-) ;-) for two more dollars :-) Flavors change weekly/seasonally, today I had the Strawberries and Cream (adult) and added condensed milk which they offer at no extra charge. When I tell you that I zoned out while eating/drinking this snowball is no joke! Highly recommend it next time you're in the Bywater! read more

Best snoball stand in New Orleans. I've been going here since they first started in 2020 and absolutely love it. Wonderful couple running the stand and adorable dogs on the porch. Great and original flavors and plenty of vegan options. My dog loves the doggy snoball too. read more

If you haven't been here then you're really missing out! They have the most delicious snowballs made with natural ingredients. Grab a cute umbrella while you're waiting! The spoon, straw, cup and napkin are all compostable and they have a bin for you to place it in when you're finished. Love that! Will definitely be back soon! read more

These snowballs are so delicious! I love them more because they are not in styrofoam cups with plastic straws and lids. Everything they use is compostable! The flavors are unique and not the typical ones you get at every other snowball stand. The colors used for the flavors are more natural, too. Overall, the snowballs are not processed/generic as the other ones. read more

Chance In Hell Snowballs was wonderful and flavorful. Even the popcorn was tasty! We luckily found them yelp while visiting NOLA for the weekend and boy are we glad we found them! They are the best snowballs we have had! I had the Key Lime Pie and my husband had Sour Cherry. Hopefully when we visit again they will be set up and have a store front we can visit. read more
