A very well run school. The school was granted last year with over $60000 worth of new books from indigo!!. The building has an elevator for students with physical limitaions. The large playground is very engaging for students of all abilities, which includes a new oodle swing which is suitable for people with physical limitations, and a new slide is on its way as their parent council raised funds to purchase last year. They also have raised garden beds that the students plant different plants in . The staff go above and beyond to engage their students by providing free after school clubs throughout the year. Champlain School teaches the 7 Grandfather teaching to all students and teach their students to be proud of their cultural backgrounds, and inclusive to all. They even hold community pot luck dinners about 2x a year.
This school has a free breakfast program for all students who want breakfast, if the student is late they r welcome to have breakfast during morning recess. Students r also offered a fruit or vegetable snack every morning (courtesy of the Canadian Nutrition Council). Parents are welcomed into the school everyday where they could spend time in a staffed Parent room where there are resources available for them to access, or just to connect with other parents and have a cup of coffee. The parent room also offers different activities for parents with preschoolers who need some adult interaction, thats been a lifesaver for some Moms.
Champlain students produce amazing work, some of which was recognized by the Canadian Rights Museum in Winnipeg! Awesome!
