Terrible excuse for a college. In 2021, what school doesn't have a student portal where one can…read moresee their progress in their selected program of study, or final grades for courses they just finished? The instructors are a mixed bag. Some clearly have no experience or business teaching anything. Some are very good. And don't get me started on the fact that staff were still required to go into their shared offices/cubicles at the height of the pandemic. The only times they could work from home (with their webcams on so the owner could see they were working) was when colleagues happened to test positive. That was only until everyone tested negative. Then you had to go back to the office until the next one was positive, then the cycle repeated. Mediocre community college, at best.

Extremely disappointed with my experience. I enrolled because the class was represented to me as…read moreKorean for absolute beginners, with a focus on conversational Korean. That was not what I encountered. I specifically asked beforehand whether the class was appropriate for someone with absolutely no prior knowledge of Korean, and I was told that it was. Based on that representation, I paid the $50 administrative/admission fee and attended the class. I arrived at approximately 8:45 a.m., 15 minutes before the 9:00 a.m. class was scheduled to begin. Even before the class officially started, it was immediately apparent to me that this was not a class for absolute beginners. The other students already had textbooks and materials from a prior semester, appeared to understand the Korean alphabet, and were able to speak and respond to Korean at a level far beyond someone with no prior exposure to the language. From the moment the teacher walked into the classroom, I could tell that I was not at the same starting level as the other students. Once the class began, the instructor started writing Korean words on the board and rapidly asking the other students questions in Korean. They were able to understand and respond, while I had no idea what was happening because I had never studied Korean before. I was instead given materials focused on learning the Korean alphabet, while the rest of the class was clearly working from an existing level of knowledge. There was no meaningful introduction or orientation for someone starting from zero. I observed the class for approximately 15 minutes and left at around 9:15 a.m. because it was immediately clear that this was not an absolute-beginner class. What is particularly frustrating is that I had specifically asked beforehand whether the course was appropriate for someone with absolutely no prior Korean knowledge, and both the school and professor represented it as such. My experience was completely inconsistent with that representation. The class appeared to be an existing class with students who had already completed prior instruction, rather than a genuinely new class for adult learners with no Korean background. I subsequently requested that the $50 administrative/admission fee be refunded because the class I paid to attend was not what had been represented to me. The school refused, citing a policy that the application fee is non-refundable. I understand that organizations have policies, but a non-refundable-fee policy does not address the underlying issue when a class is represented to a prospective student as being suitable for absolute beginners, yet the actual class is operating at a level where the existing students already have prior instruction and can understand and respond in Korean. Prospective students with no prior Korean experience should be aware of this experience and should confirm exactly what level the class is actually being taught at before paying any administrative or admission fees. In my case, I specifically asked that question beforehand and was told that the class was appropriate for me. One star because the class I paid to attend did not match how it was represented to me, and the school has refused to return the $50 fee after I raised that concern.

My instructor was not only super nice but extremely knowledgeable and it was the only instructor that we had until the end of the program. Mrs. J made class fun and has the personality that keeps you engaged and focused. Best of all asking a lot of questions wasn't really necessary because she was always ahead of the questions. She didn't only read the PowerPoint and book but also explained everything with great examples. Then Covid happened...... I was honestly very disappointed and thought that things would be pushed back even more but fortunately it didn't. I was absolutely shocked that the school was able to transition so well and fast to online lectures. (Fairfax County schools didn't transition this smoothly) I continued with the same instructors (constancy with instructor and schedules is key and this time around we got it). Not having to drive to the school and being able to complete all the work from home was a true blessing specially with the lack of child care. Testing was done at the school with masks and gloves required, 6ft distance with students having to come in one at a time. After we finished the program we were required to take a review course at a different school (in MD) I wasn't too happy about the additional fee specially during shutdown or the fact that the school was in MD but due to Covid everything was done online and I only had to drive there (long drive for me 53 minutes) for orientation and testing. I am happy to say that after everything was done I took my Hesi and passed with a good score on my first try (8/30/2020) I took some time to review everything once again and I also passed my NCLEX-PN on my first try. Administration followed very closely until I received my official license and they did provide good study tips and links to prepare. Administration also very quickly provided my transcripts as I am planning on enrolling into a bridge program LPN to RN.

If you pay the school money you will not get it back and you will not be allowed to receive a nursing license even if you complete all the courses. That is because this school is not accredited by Virginia to be teaching nursing. Nineteen people who took classes and lost over $10,000 each just sued the school and the owner for fraud. All nineteen of them testified as did the Virginia Board of Nursing and the Nurse Testing Association. They won their case on Friday, July 11 and the owner now has 15 days to get her school accredited or close it down. She also has to pay all 19 students back in threefold! And if she doesn't do it, she is going to jail! The judge was very angry with the owner because she has been operating like this since 2013! Please do your research before enrolling in this school!

THINK TWICE For the…read moreprice of this so called "experience" take your money and plan your own trip to Washington DC. Envision claims to provide classes for high scholars and and a once in a life time experience. One of the only enjoyable parts of this trip was the wounded warrior project and the ability to get access to U.S government buildings, but in my option was not worth the hefty price tag of $3k. The staff was very rude and disrespectful rewords me. When asked simple questions of how to get somewhere, or what the schedule is they would give you dirty looks or make it seem as if you were hassling them. I had two situations that required me to talk to the office and both time I went they cut me off when talking or told me to figure it out on my own. However I must give credit to my group leader as she was amazing, kind and helpful towards all of the students. The NSAM meeting I found useless as we did basic middle school history work. The other "learning" events were alright but again I didn't learn much from this experience. We had meals at the university of Maryland's dining hall. While eating one of my group members found fingernails in their pie, which the university claims were onions, it's safe to say I stayed away from the pie after that. It gets worse though. While on a trip into DC I witnessed a an older staff member around 60/70 I'd say, buy a box of Trojan condoms, triple bag them at self checkout than put them in his jacket after paying. Later that night I was walking in the hall to return to my room as I saw this man slap a younger ( approx. 25 ) female staff member on her bottom. Through the week they continued to display PDA's. And on the last day we witnessed them purchase condoms again on the last day. Never the less I wasn't expecting to see this on my "once in a lifetime experience." Overall this was an odd week and and make me wonder why I came here in the first place.

The first time I took the exam, the Proctor spent an hour trying to get in contact with a member of FCPS's IT staff to get the license for the software needed to take my exam. This delay definitely took me off my game, and may have been a contributing factor to my failing of the exam by one question. For my retake, it was discovered while I was waiting for the exam that PC used to proctor the exam had not been updated, and would take until after 9pm at night to finish updating. Luckily, the Proctor was willing to come in on her off day so that I could take the exam before my certification deadline. In addition, scheduling the exams were a massive pain, with the admin staff in charge of registration often transferring my call to a person not in the office, resulting in having to play phone tag for over an hour in order to get the exam scheduled each time. Although the Proctors were friendly, professional, and went above and beyond the call of duty, the lack of support from the rest of FCPS's Adult and Community Education staff proved to be extremely detrimental to my experience, which is why I must give them a 2 star review. Until this situation changes, I can not recommend FCPS's ACE program to anyone.
