My daughter has recently completed TK with Challenger. I wish I could go more into detail about the curriculum but, since I'm not an educator, I can't really convey that with complete knowledge. I can say (however) how impressed I am with how much my daughter had learned within the last 9 months. She had learned basic math, she's reading, and every day that she came home from school she was overjoyed. It was just an overall positive experience (not just for her but for our whole family). As parents, all we want is for our children to look forward to coming to school - not just for the intent of learning; but also for the intent that they gain the social skills that will help them build the confidence they need. I am absolutely certain that Challenger was a great fit for our child - the perfect 'stepping stone' or introduction to guide her through the rest of her educational career. The staff - everyone from Ms. Phaily (Campus admin.) to Ms. Michelle (Principal) to her class teachers, Ms. Garima & Ms. Maggie who have all been so involved since the first day & have been instrumental in our child's development. They will communicate your child's progress and reward them for their accomplishments. They're supportive and encouraging. Your kids will feel safe and welcomed each day ... 100%. Her focus on kids and striking a chord with them makes a huge difference . Also she cares for the relationships with parents and listens to discuss and not merely pushback . looking for an elite education, while making learning fun? I highly recommend the small Newark Challenger campus on Ballantine and Cedar , it's the best kept secret in town! We stumbled upon Challenger because we drove by on a Saturday and saw the open house sign. From the moment we met the director Miss Michelle (25 years there) and meeting the staff ( Ms. Phaily the admin) , we knew it was the right fit for our son. We started in preschool half day summer program to test the waters and were we impressed from the first day! Our son has continued and is currently in the Kindergarten program and will transfer to the bigger Ardenwood campus next year. The small intimate campus is such a good opportunity for your child to receive a stellar education with a two to one teacher / child ratio for 19 kids!! it's like having a teacher and a personal tutor in one room. It's also a great opportunity to allow your child to get comfortable with the school environment and curriculum at a small campus, such as Newark Challenger . I'd like to give huge shoutout to Mrs.Becker and Ms.Ferguson ! Both teachers are truly amazing and have the most energy everyday! My son is excited to go to school and always has a huge smile when I pick him up. The teachers have made an huge , positive impact in my son all around, which is worth every penny ! All of the staff is happy ,friendly , and and profess not only does my son know every employee but I do as well. My child is currently attending the Pre School program and he says he likes everything about it. He's making strong friendships with all his fellow classmates, learning new songs and coming home to teach his family everything he can! He can now identify all letters and their phonics sounds as well adding and subtracting numbers. The teachers are all very friendly and show such kindness to my child. I feel that he is in a setting where he gets equal play time/socializing and learning time. I'm very happy with our time at the Newark campus and are looking forward to future years with Challenger. My 3.5 years old daughter is learning a lot and comes back happy from the school every day. My daughter is a quick learner but very shy, she was not able to adjust easily in other schools we tried. The teachers did a good job by making her comfortable, and hence she could focus on the learning part. They seem to put good emphasis on learning manners as well. I like the idea of having a uniform as it promotes a sense equality among the children and seriousness towards the school. Only -ve part is its too expensive. read more

Long overdue 5 stars for all the staffs especially Mrs. Zaheer! It's been difficult for parents, students and educators since pandemic hit. The past school year (2021-2022) I enrolled my 2 children in preschool and kindergarten at this campus. I was very nervous for my 2 children but after just 2 weeks into preschool, my daughter (3 yr old) would come home everyday telling me she misses her best friends which are her 2 teachers Ms. khatera and Mrs. Danae. Then a month into school, my kindergartner's teacher Mes. Zaheer had a quick conversation about my son's low self esteem and she will try her best to work on it with him. I always knew he has that problem because he always see his older brother smarter than him. We tried helping him at home but I feel like no matter what we tell him, he's not listening how smart/bright he is too. By mid school year, I can see the tremendous change of my kindergartner. He loves going to school and always excited when it's Sunday night lol. I can't thank both his teachers Mrs. Zaheer and Mrs. Khotori enough. It tells a lot my children were in good hands right from beginning of school year. Again, thank you to all staffs at this campus and special thanks to the four amazing teachers my children had this past school year Mrs. Zaheer, Mrs. Khotori, Ms. Khatera and Ms. Danae. Never send your child to this school . It doesn't worth it. Tuition is expensive. The teachers are autonomous. Children are tortured to the keep up with a very heavy curriculum which may not fit for every child . Children need to learn and play! read more

We found out about this school through our pediatrician. He mentioned about how the students are well identified and stands out from other kids who goes to other school. He said Challenger kids are aside from very smart they are very courteous and polite. From there we decided to take my son here since summer of 2017. My son loves it. There is no day he's not excited to go. We are very happy and pleased. A little bit pricey but all worth it for a quality of education they offer. read more

Pros- We've been associated with Challenger for 3 years and have watched our son grow and shine here. The teaching methodology is awesome (if a little severe) and kids learn to read before they are in kindergarten! With absolutely zero parental involvement or intervention our son also handles math, Art, public speaking and music with ease and comfort. I'm impressed with their expectation of high standards. Particular shout outs to Ms Vicki, Ms Dilpreet, Ms Becker, Ms Maggie and Ms Destinie (who sadly is no longer with the school). If you land one of these teachers you're set for a great school year! Cons- very small play yard and the basketball hoops are a joke. we are also concerned about the free entry policy rather than main doors being shut during school hours. The school does tend to be over competitive and requires some management at home especially with young kids. read more

My 4 year old daughter started here in February of 2020 after being out of pre-school almost a year due to COVID. She loved it so much and loved her teachers. Ms Monica & Ms Saritha are both amazing, caring, attentive teachers. They spent extra effort on my daughter as she was behind the kids who had been there from the beginning of the year. If I can give this school a zero, I would. The lack of professionalism is scary for a private school. If you plan on sending your child here, never ever contact corporate or they will black list your child from his/her first day until the last day of school. End of the year they will give you some BS about a 4 year old's behavior and lack of focus. This school does not create successful thriving students, it just accepts naturally gifted and disciplined sheepish children and than they take all the credit for it. If your child is not disciplined and controlled like a walking and talking robot, do not send them here. They will suffer emotionally and mentally. After much searching, interviewing and site visits we have enrolled our daughter in this preschool and are quite happy with our decision. Our daughter was previously at an all play based preschool where she would have very little structure. We wanted to find a school that not only promoted more learning but also promoted learning through play, dance and song. We found that Challenger offered that. We have always shared creative learning with our child and wanted to make sure that she had all options available to her. . My kid went to Preschool here and initial few days were really hard, though she was already going to a Montessori since 2 years..she didn't like it here. Especially Miss Catera keeps yelling at kids very frequent and my kid daily complains me about that. Also, a teacher should always encourage positive attitude and words. Miss Catera sometimes provided remarks infront of her that she dont talk(how much does a 3 year old talk with loud screaming teacher) or smile. I didnot expect that from a Challenger Teacher. Being a teacher one dont need to realize teacher that, if they are open and approachable kids will always come to them. Overall, not a right place if your kid not completely independent. read more

I sent my now 6-years old child here and I would say she has learned so much while attending this particular campus. She attended this school from preschool to Kindergarten and based on our family's experience, we had no regrets. Her teachers showed that they cared and listened. They were very accessible if you need feedbacks regarding your child. They will guide your child to achieve their best...and the environment was very nurturing. We were very satisfied and we developed a strong sense of trust in the teachers. Now, I am sending my 3-years old son here for their pre-K program and plan on keeping him here until K (they only offer up to K). I'm confident that he will come out of this school with more eagerness to learn and prepared to take on First Grade. read more

Attended a graduation ceremony here for my nephews. Some teacher kept telling our 3 year old son to be quiet. We weren't even in the in the ceremony auditorium, and our son's talking/singing could not be heard in there at all. This place does not know how to handle young children and seemed very unfamiliar on how to handle family events. Based on my brief encounter with their staff I do not recommend this school unless you wish your child to become an IT drone working in a cubicle. read more

I have been a long time parent of challenger school now for a while now and I have to say, this campus is extremely warm and welcoming! I love the staff and I love how the teachers are chosen for each program. Both my daughters have attended challenger school in Newark and miss Khatera was both of their teachers! She has to be one of the best teachers they have around! She's kind, patient and the kids just absolutely love her! If I were to ever recommend any teacher it would be her! Over all challenger's academic program is good but that's about all the good part and that's about all they do. The teaches, it seems, are puppets and instructed to follow the curriculum to the T and never to deviate from it. I do not think they have qualifications to be teachers. My kid went there for KG and I wasn't happy about it. There is absolutely no parent involvement throughout the year at all. We get invited to their seasonal program for 20 mins 3 times a year and that's it. Cant communicate to the teachers directly. There is no extra curricular activities at all. Since teachers are not caring and they have to follow the curriculum they don't care if you child is behind. Not only will they not do anything extra to help your child, but they will put undue pressure on your kid. In fact, they even told us that they teach to the top 20% of the class if you child is behind s/he will stay behind. The last straw for us was on the second last day of the school year they did an awards ceremony and they called and invited only the parents of the kids who were getting an award. the only who got the award were the ones who were continuing with Challenger for next year. They called it scholarship ($800 tuition credit towards 1st grade). 20 out of 32 (yes they have 32 students in one class, more then public school) students got the award. The worst part wasn't the fact that some of the kids didn't get the award (not everyone gets awards every time) but they didn't invite all the parents. Not only the poor kid didn't get the award but there is no one to explain it to them of what is happening (these are 5 and 6 years old we are talking about here). Kid is probably sitting there thinking not only did i not get the award, my parents aren't even here (again 5 -6 years old). My feeilng is Challenger is all about money. They do not care about kids and it shows. Some teachers are good but I have seen them leave the place in a hurry. The administration is the worst. I wrote this review to make sure all the parents who are considering Challenger for their kids get some information that they don't get on the Open House days. My older kid went to Challenger for KG as well and we had a little bitter feeling but we continued on thinking that it was just a campus (san jose gish rd) and changed the campus for our daughter (ceder rd) but it was even worst here. If i were to do it all over again, I wouldn't even go near Challenger. read more

The curriculum is good, academic and I like the fact that kids do learn a lot there. It is a clean facility and some teachers are good. I dont like the pickup dropoff style with challenger schools. There is a lot of waste of time in it and children do not get more than 2.5 hrs at school. And it is expensive for just that much school time. Other thing is the principle Isabel is not flexible at all. You go to her with any reasonable request and she will not bend at all. She will not even try. Does she have kids of her own? I understand that she has 100+ students and the rules cannot be changed for each and every kid. But you can always try for a reasonable request. Happy parent but not much. read more

Please do not join your children in this school, especially the Newark Campus, if you really want them to be happy. The next place they would be landing up will be a MENTAL INSTITUTION. All they know is hounding the parents and the kids, as young as 3 years, with rules and concepts that do not hold any meaning or sense. The so-called "staff" will judge your child as "doctors", though they are NOT PROFESSIONALLY QUALIFIED TO DO SO. Had a very bad experience with my little one. Both my kid and we as parents are happy to be out of it. Sheer waste of money for horrible schooling methods and pathetic staff. Way too expensive and over hyped. I put my 3 yr old thinking that the school will bring a positive change in her personality(a very shy girl) . On the contrary, the teachers only needed an excuse to complain...They would either complain that she cries in school or she doesnt play and isnt that social ..and when I asked them what they did to help her, their answer would be - I am clueless why she behaves that way..huh? She said she cant express her feelings as other kids can do.. Really??? All 3 yr olds can express what they feel ??? Life would have only been so easy if that were true...and preschool should cost as less as kindergarden if it were true. How can you be clueless about a child who is under your custody? Arent you supposed to work on helping her make friends ? arent you supposed to find out why someone is cranky ? Atleast some efforts from your side..This whole experienec had such a negative impact on my child that she doesnt want to go to school anymore and I finally had to pull her out. I doubt the teachers are actually trained enough to handle children of that age.. From what I learnt after speaking to them, they expect adults out of 3 yr olds and they are highly incapable of handling them. read more
