Another year, another amazing group of artists and beautiful works of art! This event is always Labor Day Weekend with artists beginning their work on Saturday and wrapping up by Monday. It's so cool to stop in on multiple days to see the progress on different pieces and talk to the artists while they're working. Other than the art, there are food trucks, vendors, artists, creators, and live music. So a lot of different things to explore. The event does get busier throughout the weekend and expect longer lines as more pieces are completed. You can also vote on your favorite artwork and there's always so many cool ones to see during the event.

A yearly event that I try not to miss because it is so cool to watch some of the artists doing their thing live in action. If you go on Monday afternoon, most of the side walks in the whole park will be done. But if you like to watch the artist in action, and have a more lively experience with a live band, then definitely come Saturday or Sunday.

I remember when Chalk it up first started, it was just artists creating some great artwork on the sidewalks around the park. Now years later, it has transformed into a small festival type of weekend event to take the family to. Food trucks, craft booths, and even live music now pack the small park. And of course those wonderful chalky images being created on the surrounding sidewalks!

Chalk it up! Was a fun event. My friends and I decided to go late Monday night to enjoy the artwork. I really liked the art. The artists were very talented and offered such unique art. The vendors were super nice and had a ton of fun items such as crochet animals, food, and clothing. I will definitely stop by again next year to see the artwork.

Chalk it up is such a fun event in Sacramento at Fremont Park. Tons of artists come to decorate the sidewalk with their art (chalk art of course), there's also lots of small businesses, food and drink vendors, and live music. It's a very fun event for all ages. Parking is the worst part of this event as you will have to park far and walk which isn't a big deal but it also is during summer so please be prepared with water, fans, hats etc. especially if you are bringing kids or dogs.

This is a very cool event that we really enjoyed as a little family outing. There is a good number of vendors & food trucks, live music, all surrounded by chalk artists and their art! The work was impressive, fun, whimsical, and vibrant! It was neat to see the diversity of the artists, their styles, and their different techniques. Depending on when you go, you will see works in progress to finished pieces. Sometimes it's slow goings following the crowd around the periphery to see everything and get a good view, and you have to watch your footing along the park ground and around trees. It was a very pleasant and delightful way to spend some time. We would be happy to return next year.

Walked here from the midtown farmers market. Come early to beat the heat. Well organized with lots to do for all ages. Bring your dog and or family and enjoy the local vibe. Lots of food trucks, crafts, and beautiful chalk art. Monday is the best day to come to see the final artwork. I'll come back early next week when the festival is over to see art when crowds are gone. Enjoy!

Pretty cool free community event. Artists of a wide range of ages create chalk art pieces on the sidewalk that makes up the perimeter of Fremont Park. Today (Labor Day) is the last day of the festival (with the food/clothes vendors and all) but I'm pretty sure that the artwork will remain viewable at the park for a while. I loved seeing some of the work being made in progress. There's a designated parking garage but little did I know that it's a $10 card-only flat fee as opposed to normal hourly rates at this particular garage (no specific parking info on the official site). While driving away from the event I saw a bunch of street parking available not really close but still at a walkable distance.

ART FUN! I love Chalk It Up! This is such a unique event that offers art in the fun and unusual form of chalk! These ephemeral pieces are only available for the three-day weekend of the event. They are all along the perimeter of the event. Each year they have a fantastic lineup of musicians from all around the area. You can watch right in front on the grass or chill in the beer garden. They have icee vendors and food vendors as well as booths put on by places like the Sacramento Zoo or local companies. Whether you experience this as a chalk artist, musician, or city dweller, this event is not to be missed! Well worth it. If you want to see the artwork in progress come on day 1 or day 2. If you want to see the artwork finished day 3 is a must! ENJOY!

Calling all art enthusiasts and foodie fans, you don't want to miss this year's 2019 festival, it's free, they have lots of inspiring youth singing and creating, vendors, food trucks and live music! This morning my boyfriend and I braced the heat and came when the event opened about 10 a.m. and enjoyed getting to experience the local youth sidewalk chalk art, so many vibrant colors used and you could see all the hard work they put into each piece! Tho we got there when they just started, I'm sure their are many more chalk art to experience as the event continues. I ordered the Alegria Smoothie from the Gaspachos booth, it's amazingly flavorful and both the mango and pineapple is fresh, all natural and has no sugar added! I'll definitely have to check out their shop here in Sacramento, their Flower Mango looked beautiful and would make a great gift! From the Bloom Mobile Boutique, I found a purrfect card for my sister and enjoyed browsing each booth we came across, especially the hippy style ones! For live music they had Girls Rock Sacramento, a local group of girls from a non-profit organization who take girls to camp to learn how to sing or play an instrument, they were good! The local West Coast Irish Punk Band, The Pikeys played on stage as well, what an awesome Celtic band with some pipes on them! Come support our youth this Labor Day Weekend and check out this years Chalk it up Festival!

It's back! One of the more original and looked-forward-to events of the year is back in 2021, COVID be damned. It's great to see people out in droves at an event that was previously something we looked forward to attending every year but, like almost everything, was waylaid by the pandemic. Even if it were COVID times, you wouldn't know it. People were crowded around the exterior of this relatively small centralized park moving in a slow line as they checked out all the incredible chalk art. When I say it is all incredible, it really is. Every mini-masterpiece has a story behind it and a sponsor, no matter the artistic level of the artist. More importantly, it all goes to help promote and support Youth Arts by offering small grants to K-12 classrooms. As an added bonus, some of the art really is just incredible on its own terms. The center of the park was devoted to a ton of food stands and other types of vendors. The organizers did a really great job of bringing together an eclectic group of offerings. I can't wait to come back and check it out again with family and friends next year!

It's that time a year again for Sacramento Chalk It Up FREE music and Arts Festival. What a beautiful day to get out and hear free music, food truck, vendors and beautiful chalk art. This event is located at Fremont Park with lots of fun for the entire family. They have a park structure for children to play and a designated area for any kids to show off their art creations. There is a beer and wine area for adults and this event is dog friendly. Bring the family down and enjoy this free event. Parking can be a challenge so why not rent a jump bike and peddle in.

I came here to volunteer, and to my surprise, there were even younger kids participating. I learned that the minimum volunteer age is 10 years old. Some students were volunteering for school service hours, while others came through different companies and organizations. We joined the second shift from 1pm-4pm. The session started shortly after 1pm with a briefing and task assignments from the group leader. All tasks were explained clearly. The leaders checked on us throughout the shift to make sure we were doing okay and to see if anyone had concerns. Halfway through the shift, we had a 15-minute break, and one of the leaders brought ice cream to celebrate a volunteer's birthday and shared it with everyone. I thought it was a meaningful way to celebrate a birthday while helping a good cause. We actually finished around 3:30pm, and our shift completed: - 5,451 lbs of food packed - 474 boxes prepared for the "No Student Goes Hungry" program supporting students from elementary school through college in Sacramento County. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, and the facility was clean and organized. Restroom: clean, bright, and decent. If you are interested in volunteering, check out their website and register in advance.

Within all of this stuff, was a bunch of new and lightly used clothing. In the past I have donated clothing to my local Goodwill Express. However, I did some reflection and realized that all of the clothing that I donated was being sold for profit. Going forward, my intention was to donate to an organization that receives the donation(s) and distributes them to underprivileged individuals/families free of charge. Some research led me to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Upon calling to verify their hours (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-1pm and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm), I gathered all of the clothing and hit the road on a mission to make a difference. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a Sacramento Food Bank employee who eagerly began to load my clothing donations onto a cart. Since a lot of the clothing consisted of dress pants and dress slacks, he proceeded to inform me about a program called "Job Smart Clothing." Job Smart Clothing is a program within Sacramento Food Bank that provides career appropriate apparel for underprivileged individuals interviewing for employment or currently employed. How cool is that? I'm not a representative for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. However, I will say that they provide an awesome service to the community, and that a little donation goes a long way (individuals who benefit from their services often leave with 15-20 pieces of clothing per visit). Before you throw away that piece of clothing that you think is out of style or doesn't quite hug your curves the way that they used to, think about donating it to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services!

Doesn't really matter to me either way, as I'm not all that interested in clothes and shoes which this Goodwill had the most of from a quick scan. I went straight to the DVD section and they had a decent selection of several genres that I was interested in. I have a few collections of DVDs and add to them when I can. I also look for child and family-friendly ones so I can watch together with my kids or let them watch on their own. They have some books here, but not a lot, and limited genres, but a decent amount, but I didn't see any that was interesting enough to bring home with me. On certain days, there's a 50% discount based on the color of the sticker, so that's a bonus, and I happen to find a few DVDs I wanted to get that was half off. Check out was quick and the cashier guy was friendly. As for the rest of the store, they have lots of home stuff and some electronics in the back, and as mentioned earlier, a ton of clothes and shoes to choose from if you're a serious shopper. Parking is street only, so be ready to pay by meter/app. All in all, this is a nice Goodwill that's "special," but to me it just a fancier looking one, as long as they keep stocking items that are of interest to me, I'll keep coming back.

We evaluated whether or not my chain was salvageable, and decided we should take a few links from a chain in the back, and add it to mine. It was only $3, and from there he taught me everything about repairing a chain. He was so nice and helpful, I used the tools and he kept watch to make sure I was doing it right. Sometimes that can be stressful, but he made sure it was a fun environment and we laughed almost the whole time. I could not recommend this place more. For them, its really just about the bikes. It felt amazing to fix it myself, and learn something about my bicycle. The volunteer also helped inspect my bike to make sure nothing else needed fixing. This review is specifically about my personal experience with attorney Lina…read more I sought legal assistance through WEAVE for a Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) involving a long history of abuse. When I was assigned to Lina, she was a newer attorney, but I chose to work with her because she had availability and I believed she would advocate for my case. Throughout our preparation, I repeatedly expressed the importance of presenting my evidence and witnesses. I had extensive documentation and multiple witnesses prepared to testify. Despite these discussions, I received very little guidance on how to prepare for court beyond what to wear on the hearing date. I was not given meaningful information about what to expect during the hearing or how testimony would be presented. Before the hearing, there was also an issue with service and filing. My ex violated the temporary restraining order, and when I contacted the police, I was informed that the order had not been properly served or entered into the system. That was very concerning for me as basic filing of the paperwork. On the day of the hearing, Lina told me the hearing would likely be continued. Instead, the hearing proceeded. I was unprepared for having to present my own case with little assistance. During the hearing, none of the evidence I had repeatedly asked to be presented was introduced, and none of my witnesses were called which I know would be in a trial (which in my case that's where I wanted to go). I was left to speak for myself while emotional and overwhelmed. I remember the judge even indicating that Lina could speak for me or with me, yet very little advocacy occurred with me. The DVRO was denied. While I understand that no attorney can guarantee an outcome, I left feeling that my case had never truly been presented to the court. My concern is not that the judge ruled against me, but that the evidence and witness testimony I had spent significant time gathering were never put before the court. After the hearing, I was told I would receive a follow-up call later that day, but no call came. When I eventually reached out myself to discuss my concerns, I felt dismissed rather than heard. Instead of receiving explanations regarding why evidence and witnesses were not presented, I felt my concerns were minimized and responsibility was shifted onto me. The problems continued after the hearing. When I later got a different attorney , there were additional issues regarding paperwork needed to remove Lina as attorney of record. As a result, close to an another hearing, she still appeared as attorney of record because the paperwork had not been properly completed. I understand that attorneys are human and that every case has challenges. However, what was most disappointing was the lack of preparation, communication, follow through, and advocacy I experienced during one of the most vulnerable periods of my life. I was seeking protection for myself and my children and needed an attorney who would thoroughly present my case and guide me through the process. I am sharing this experience so that others can make an informed decision when seeking legal representation during a domestic violence matter and not have to go through the added emotional aspect I endured when I was seeking for advocacy.
