We stayed at this place for several days in July. Graegle, Portola and the surrounding area is really beautiful and less traveled than Tahoe. Chalet View is on the luxury side of things with nice amenities (pool, spa if you wish, golf course). The cabins are nicely fixed up. Going for that luxury rustic feeling if you know what I mean. Your stay comes with a decent free breakfast every morning. The grounds are beautiful and there is hiking trail that leads right off the property that goes to the river and beyond. There is a lot to explore. Of course you pay for the amenities. Our other gripe was that we had serious hot water issues during our stay that took a couple of fixes before it was resolved. We had to go without showers for a while and that was no fun while you are enjoying an active vacation with lots of hiking. This review will come to you in two parts - One as a wedding guest and one as a parent to a toddler (age 2). Part One: The Chalet View Lodge is a beautiful spot for a wedding. There are spacious grounds for an outside wedding, beautiful trees, and rooms to stay in for the wedding event. There's a brewery, Starbucks, private cabins, different types of rooms, and some games on location. It's a nice location to kick back and recenter yourself for a weekend or let loose and party into the night. Party into the night with the wedding, that is! In October the high was in the 50s and the lows got down into the upper 20s. It was crisp and cold, so don't forget those jackets! Also, if you're used to a more humid climate look into a travel humidifier. As a wedding guest, I would give this place 4.5 stars. Part Two: The Chalet View Lodge isn't very toddler friendly. The playground they advertise is what you'd find in your backyard - a small playscape with two swings, trapeze, a ladder and a rock wall to climb up to take the slide down. It's surrounded by some sand but it's not meant to be a sandbox. My toddler wasn't interested in the little golf course they had, cornhole, or bocce ball. She did play with some of the materials for those games, but it lasted about 5 minutes. There's lots of land to run around on as well which is great, but keep in mind you are right off a somewhat busy road. The brewery and Starbucks had the same food menu all day. The brewery basically had a few types of pizza, some appetizers (pretzel, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and wings) while Starbucks had a few sandwiches and some breads that were sweet (like their lemon loaf or chocolate banana bread). I don't know if these limited menus were due to staff issues, Covid issues, or they limit it when there's an event. The room we got was a king with a double. The double bed was upstairs in the loft. The beds are low to the floor. The room had the King bed downstairs, two night tables, a wardrobe, bathroom, desk, and desk chair. Upstairs was the double bed, two small night tables, a fake plant, and a lamp. Because there's also a skylight in the loft had a pole to open the skylight. They do not rent out cribs and we were told to check with Reno, NV to see if they had anyone that rented cribs there. I should say that there was no room in this room type to set up a crib. A pack and play might have fit upstairs in the loft but it would be a tight squeeze. The heater was small, and despite heat rising, the loft was generally colder than the downstairs. I'm glad I got my kid fleece footie pjs! The sheet and comforter were nice and warm but a toddler isn't very good at keeping covered. Our saving grace was the TV, which was a Roku TV. There was live TV but no guide to tell you what channels were what and also no way to put a number into the remote. We were able to sign in to our Disney+ and Netflix accounts which helped keep our toddler occupied when we were both tired of running around outside. Don't forget to sign out! Portola seemed to have some restaurants in town, but we didn't venture out to try them so I can't speak on that. There is a small fridge in the bathroom but no microwave. I brought some supplies to make sandwiches, muffins and fruit cups for breakfast, and some snacks. As a toddler mom, I'd give this place 2.5 stars. read more

Stayed there this past weekend thanks to Groupon and I cant say enough about our visit. From the first phone call to confirm our appointments to our checkout, the customer service was excellent, especially Bob! Everyone was so nice, friendly and full of information. They made excellent suggestions for dinner outside the lodge and even told us about a delicious microbrewery nearby that was worth the adventure! Our dinner was excellent at the Grille and we absolutely loved our room. The views are great. We are definitely coming back, in fact we are already talking about our next trip. While there we found out they are dog friendly and plan on bringing our our GSD on our next trip. Cant wait to come back and try that beer Bob has brewing up as well =) My only complaint is the pillows on the bed... It seems good at first but I have bad joints and after the first night I was sore and my neck was super stiff the next night. read more

We stayed here in August 2020 with 12 year old and a 6 year old, and two years later, the kids are still asking to go back. I agree with both the 1-star and 5-star reviews. What the kids loved: The outdoor areas and in the back of the grounds, the pond with FROGS. The kids had a blast catching frogs in clear plastic Starbucks cups (thank you, hotel staff!) every day. The pond has a little dock, and is just big enough for kids to paddle the canoe and kayaks kept by the side of the pond. There was a hammock by the pool. Closer to the hotel is a small playground with treehouse, swings, sand area and tetherball which the younger child enjoyed; next to it was a cornhole setup. There's an outdoor wood fires with benches around them that are perfect for smores. At night we saw 5 deer grazing on the grounds. There is a small pool and hot tub, an outdoor patio with tables and chairs for eating overlooking it, and the pool area itself had two lovely cabanas and an outdoor sofa and chairs with a fire pit, which we thoroughly enjoyed on our last day. The staff were wonderful, accomodating, and welcoming even though they were clearly short-staffed. The not-so-good: it was short-staffed, unsurprising for the summer after the start of the pandemic. We had to change rooms mid-stay because ours wasn't available, one of the rooms didn't have a shower curtain, and they were out of clean washclothes. There was some deferred maintenance, and while everything was clean, our room in the main building felt ever so slightly run down at the edges, as did the hot tub. The restaurant was closed (pandemic), the only food was at the bar and not great, but then I found you can get pizza delivered). The location was not great because the nearest restaurants/groceries at Graeagle were 20 minutes away . Ditto for hiking and lakes nearby. Bottom line: Great place for kids. Think of it as a rustic mini-family camp, and enjoy it as such. read more

I will never be going back to this location. I visited on business and the hotel hasn't had WiFi both times I have stayed which were a month apart. I feel that this is inexcusable, especially for someone traveling for work. To top it off, the last night of my stay a fight broke out after a wedding right outside my room with lots of loud yelling, cursing, and door slamming at 1:00AM which lasted roughly an hour! I even come out of my room to ask them to quite down which fell upon def ears as they proceeded to scream at each other. Location: in the middle of no-where, but right off the highway, not too loud. Room: great price. Cute and homey. The bed was very uncomfortable though, my husband and I did not sleep well :(. The TV only gets around 10 channels, and there is no DVD player or movie service. * Note: there were trucks and people working outside of our room at night and again at around 8 the next morning-- not very relaxing or private. When booking your stay ask if there is an event that weekend. Staff: very friendly and helpful. Leann was the best. Continental Breakfasts: nothing fancy: fruit (my apple was bad though, yuck), yogurt, oatmeal, muffins, and hard boiled eggs. Juice and coffee too. Did the job. We booked over half of the Chalet View Lodge for our wedding. It seemed ok, until we realized they had overcharged every single one of our guests. We were quoted a rate when we booked the block of rooms, and then it was increased by roughly $50 per night per room. If my brother hadn't realized the problem, everyone would have overpaid without knowing it. Second, when I called, I said we would have some guests dining in the restaurant on-site. However, they had a corporate retreat using the remainder of the rooms, and closed the restaurant the entire time our guests were there. No one could eat, and many of them didn't rent cars, relying on the convenience and inclusiveness of Chalet View Lodge. Many of our guests went on food runs to Quincy to get food for our guests, and some who arrived late could not eat at all. We spent quite a bit of time at Chalet View Lodge while our guests were there, and were only able to convince them to make us a pizza after a long, prolonged complaint. And even then, they were extremely hesitant and rude. We called the owner and he insulted us and told us the restaurant was "by reservation only," and that it was posted on the website. They have since changed the restaurant policy to read "reservations are required," but we checked, and for several weeks after, reservations were only "recommended." Our friends checked into the expensive "villa," where they found the room grubby and dirty. The hot tub was non-functional, all of the beds sunk in to the point where some of them slept on the floor, there was old Gatorade in fridge, and a dead bee in the pull-out mattress. We called and complained on our wedding day (the last thing I wanted to do), and they comped one night in the villa. They downgraded another friend's room from a two story, two bed room to a one-story without telling her. When she pointed it out, they insisted she had booked and paid for the lower-level room. She showed them her reservation several times before they comped one night. Another friend, however, had to find last-minute housing because there was no longer space for her in that room. When our guests checked in after check-in time (they arrived at 6:00pm), the front desk told our guests their room wasn't ready. They asked if they could leave luggage in the lobby or in a closet, but the front desk said they could not, so they had to sit in the lobby, with their bags, for the late room to be ready. They missed half of our rehearsal dinner. Carrie made two of these things right (or at least close) by comping two nights for two groups, but the stress it put on our wedding day, and the damper it put on our entire wedding experience was not worth it at all. We spent more time dealing with problems regarding Chalet View Lodge than we did getting ready for the wedding. It ended up being really terrible, and the only regret we have about our entire wedding weekend. read more

This past weekend, we stayed at the lodge and thought it incredible! We stayed there with a groupon. The forest view room was very nice and big. The heAter worked well and it had a nice bathroom. Being that it was in fall, there wasn't much to do around the lodge itself, but it's surroundings we're amazing!! We did the small hike down to the feather river and the trail road tracks and it was very beautiful. There is a canyon that views drop down into the feather river. We stood on a tall rock and looked out at some pretty awesome views. The railroad track are also super cool-being that it's tracks are right next to beautiful forests and there is also a high bridge that it goes over.It felt like I was in "stand by me" . We also visited nearby lake gold which has great fishing and is breathtaking. There was great trout in the lake and a view of snow capped mountains surrounds it. Its Screen saver worthy, really. The old mill pond in geaegle is a must see. The pond is great, but the river behind it is what's really pretty. The only downsides were that there wasn't many food options other than portola (which is a dump). And the grille at the lodge only offers pizza and salads Also local eateries were kind of pricey.. Ther was a place in greaegle that wanted $20 for a salad?? But I'm also kind of a cheap skate. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the locals were hospitable. To summarise things. This is perfect if you want to experience the beautiful Northern California forests that you see in the movies. This place is honestly gorgeous!! If your indoorsy people, thatike to dine out, be entertained and stay around the hotel-you may not really appreciate this place-it's in te middle of nowhere. I felt like the real fun was when went hiking, fishing and explored nature. Bring your own snacks. If you're coming from Southern California Do NOT go the first travel option mapquest gives you. You can get there by just taking the 15 to the 395. The other way is odd it takes you all these weird ways-It take you through Reno, and is not aesthetically pleasing, trafficy and kind if inconvenient. Take the 15 to 395 and Take the Lake Tahoe way I was glued to my window the entire time! And it's just as short!! We will defiantly stay here again. read more

My room was nice and clean upon arrival. A little closer you the freeway for my liking which made it hard to sleep but that was the worst part. Bed was comfortable, a little squeaky, but comfortable. My room had an upstairs that had a day bed on it. A little weird that the mini fridge was in the bathroom. Breakfast was your typical hotel spread. Nice Starbucks hot coffee though. They had hard boiled eggs, muffins, organic breakfast cereal, oatmeal and both orange and apple juice. Both the night staff that checked us in and the morning staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing that stunk was that a co-worker reserved my room for me and they said they were just going to put a deposit- which ended up being the entire room charge on his card. They did the refund but he is still waiting for the money to be returned to his card. read more

Room is huge but if your on front side road traffic is obvious from every single car or truck going by, not a quiet room (101). I came to Chalet View Lodge for a wedding and had a fabulous experience at this resort! Firstly, it is tucked away near Tahoe on beautiful mountainous grounds. You feel like you are worlds away when really you're only a few hours from the city. Secondly, the lodge itself is amazing with spacious rooms and lots of options for entertainment, i.e. snowmobiling, zip lining, golfing, paddle boating in the pond, hiking the grounds, and even spa treatments! We spend a good amount of time in in bar area having a few beers on the patio and eating yummy food. Lastly, but most importantly... the staff was attentive and kind. Great customer service I must add that the wedding itself was gorgeous! They did a fantastic job with making the special day perfect - the attention to detail really set it all off! Horrendous experience with the lodge and mainly their management after having $200 taken from my wallet that was in the room when housekeeping went in and a mouse running through one of the upstairs bedroom of our cabin. There was a family gathering planned that day in Graeagle, so this appeared to be the best place to stay the night. Reservations were made over the Internet, and within a few minutes I received confirmation. So a month later it was off to Graeagle (a four hour drive), the family gathering at noon, then off to the Chalet View Lodge for check-in and dinner. First of all, don't believe your GPS for it's location. I was taken to a gravel road several miles S/W on Highway 70. I called the Chalet and was then told to go the wrong direction. A second call got me closer, but still a mile away. Using the town of Graeagle in the Google map address seamed to be the problem, as Google believes they are in Portola. We arrived and made dinner reservations. The dinner menu was limited, and I went with the K&B (Kale and Roasted Beets) Salad. A bargain at $12. The hotel staff has a double role as restaurant employees. The salad arrived and I started digging in. It had a pleasant taste, but where's the beets? I asked the waitress, she checked with the cook, and was then told "we ran out." My kids had better luck with the "Tripple" Sliders. My wife had the pumpkin sauce pizza. Nothing mentioned to me for the price of a beetless salad. It's was a very rainy night. The kids were upstairs in the loft. The rain hitting the two skylights was soothing and everyone fell asleep. But once the rain stopped, the sun came up, and so were we. These skylights should have shades, so the upstairs loft guests could sleep in. Nice and clean rooms. Decent rates. Too wet to walk around. I would describe the Chalet View as solidly mediocre. It's hotel "meat and potatoes" are all solid; clean room, cozy bed, clean bathroom. But it's definitely missing the extras that turn a mere mountain motel into a winter resort. There seemed to be few "resort" amenities on site, and I was especially disappointed to find out that the advertised hot breakfast with local scrambled eggs and bacon and sausage was actually a drab continental mockery better suited for a Motel 6. Hot water should be available 24/7 to make tea, and the restaurant area seemed small to hang out in. But again, if you'r looking for a solid place to rest your head in a scenic locale, this is it. read more

This review is an honest take on our experience. I understand that many people love the Chalet, so it may be that we caught them on a bad weekend. A. We called to confirm and the offered to upgrade us to a better room. We mentioned that we got the room we did because the website said that was the only room we could take pets. They said that that was OK, and that the pets would be fine. We got there with our dogs and they said that whoever told us that was wrong and we would have to pay an additional 100.00. B. We felt treated differently because of our race. I am definitely not the type to play the victim card, but we felt that we were getting strange vibes the whole weekend. So I wish i could've given this place a 2.5, because it was alright, but not in the A-ok status. So i booked my stay about 6 months ago due the close proximity of the location to a wedding i was attending on the 4th of July. First off the booking online was a little confusing. One thing that was not confusing though was the statement that half of the 2 night fare was required as a deposit when i booked and it said "Due at Check-In" and stated the other half of the fare. However about a week prior to my stay there they decided to run my credit card for the remaining fare. I called and asked them why they charged me now instead of at check in. Their reply was "Because it's 4th of july and a busy holiday, plus there's only a 7 day cancellation policy". Please note this is their cancellation policy: CANCELLATION POLICY: 7 day notice required for all reservations or forfeit 1 night's room and tax.- so with that being the case there was no reason for them to charge me ahead of time. To add to that frustration, at check in I decided to hang out in the 'bar' area. While sitting there a gentleman came up to the front desk and asked how to make a reservation for the spa. The response was that "um, we don't really have a spa right now because the manager left, so we're not opening it...but we do have a pool". Shortly after that another person came up and asked where the gym was located. The front desk girl not knowing anything about the gym asked the other woman who was i guess the other front desk person/bartender/only other person working. The other woman stated "oh well we don't really have a gym right now either, the manager took most of the equipment with them and the stuff that's there i don't think it works...there might be an elliptical". It took all the strength i had not to laugh at that. I could go into detail about how the bartender couldn't make a simple drink, but will just leave it at that comment. The room was nice, smaller then described, but nice still. However when you talk about "it's the little things that matter", it was obvious that the little things were over looked. The blinds were broken, the lamp missing the knob to turn it on and the best was the Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The tub had a label that was printed out of a label maker you would have at home stating "sorry the jets to this dub do not work, this room is not rented as a jacuzzi tub room, thanks". So in other words the tub was broken, they never fixed it and thought that putting a label on it stating that it wasn't a Jacuzzi tub room would fool people. (fyi, there is no option to book a Jacuzzi tub room online). The wifi is a joke, i was right next to the office and it barely worked, there was no hairdryer in the bathroom and there were no lunch time food options. The continental breakfast was nice, different bread options, cereal and yogurt and other then that, it was just ehhhh. read more

I am from the area and struggled to find an appropriate venue for our wedding. The Chalet View was large enough to accommodate all of our out of town guests, without feeling too rustic or "backwoodsy." The owners were amazing to work with, they truly wanted our wedding to be as great as it could be. They even resurfaced their pickle ball court when we decided to use it as our dance floor! Our guests loved all the activities, including golf, hikes and swimming in the feather river. They also raved about the talents of the on-site chef and his pizzas! We just can't say enough about this amazing venue! One quick word of advice... they have a wedding planner they recommend onsite, but you may want to ask around for other planners in the area, especially if you want to use local vendors. We found her prices a little high for the planning that we felt was put in. She also likes to use her own vendors, so if you have different vendors you want to use (which we did - we tried to use all local vendors out of Plumas County), just be aware the coordination seemed to be harder for her with our local vendors. read more

One star for a great price during a peak summer season. One star for a gorgeous clean room and property. One star for covenience to my parent's home in Graegle when we visit. One star for tasty breakfast of healthy choices and superb variety. 0 star for deactivated keys at 10:30 pm and front desk closed, hence having to call urgent phone line which after 10 rings, was not picked up and had to use personal cell phone. Manager promptly came but still after such a long day, had to admit slightly annoyed. Also, housekeeping said we had our Do Not Disturb sign on as the reason why our room was not cleaned, but all three of us know when we left, we vocally conferred to each other that good thing we didn't forget to remove the sign. We also had a lunch reservation at 12:30 pm and knew what time we left as well (the maid blamed us!) Oh well. Because all the positives outweighed the negatives, we will be back and hopefully I can write an update soon! read more

Just came back from a visit to Portola and stayed at the Chalet View Lodge. What a great stay! The place was comfortable, clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed in our room was majorly comfortable. Usually when we travel the bed works for one of us but not the other. Not this time. The bed was great and the room was nice. It was very quite and there was a great outdoor fireplace that not only kept us warm but was a gathering place to meet other guests. As if this weren't enough, they have a restaurant called "The Grille". Now we are newly plant based eaters so we asked them what they had on the menu for us. Well Chef Chase was wonderful! He made us our own Vegan meals both nights we were there and they were delicious. We are also Gluten Free and on the second night he surprised us with a YUMMY gluten free Sorbet. We felt very special and will definitely stay at the Chalet View Lodge again. read more

I had the most wonderful stay here with my boyfriend over the summer around 4th of July. My boyfriend was able to get a Living Social deal. I don't remember the specifics of the deal, but he told me it was a pain to redeem and book over the phone. Lot's of calling and leaving messages back and forth over a course of 2 days or so. So I guess if you have a deal, be aware that it might take some effort to redeem it. Luckily for me, I didn't have to deal with it! The hotel is nestled in the mountains, so there are plenty of outdoor activities to do. We asked the woman at the front desk for hiking recommendations. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We ended up hiking to Sierra Buttes the next day, a moderately tough but doable hike for amateurs like us. Our room was one of the Terrace Suites. It had 2 floors and a small balcony. Our room was pretty clean and cozy. The only thing we didn't like so much was the living area was upstairs, while the king sized bed was downstairs. So that made the space seem smaller since the bed takes up most of the 1st floor, and we also never hung out at the living area, so it seemed like a waste. I see in some Yelp photos, in other Terrace Suites, the living area is downstairs, which makes much more sense, so if we come back, we may request that. The bed is very comfortable. The little balcony is very nice. We sat on it and sipped some wine, while looking out into the trees. It was very serene. There are some activities you can do right on the grounds. We played some golf (which I suck at!), and at night, we hung out at the fire pit, where we made s'mores. There was another nice family there making s'mores together, and the mother told us they come to this hotel every summer. There is an outdoor hot tub which we unfortunately didn't get a chance to use. We booked a couples 60min massage at their spa, which felt soooo good. Actually, it was my first time ever having a professional massage, and my first experience was great! We had dinner one night at The Grille, which I will give a mixed review. We ordered 2 wood fired pizzas, but it took 45 minutes for our food to come out. Our server was wonderful. She was very apologetic and did her best to keep us happy. Apparently, the wood fire oven was brand new, and the kitchen was still getting used to it, causing back orders. The manager came by to talk to us and apologized as well. When the pizza did finally come out, it was good! We brought our own wine, and they waived the corkage fee and gave us dessert on the house. Hopefully by now, they have worked out the kinks. In the morning, there was breakfast that you can eat on their outdoor patio. It's a simple, but filling breakfas with toast, waffles, cereal, muffins, oatmeal, yogurt, and fruit. Beverages included coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, and cranberry juice. There was a good amount of choices available, and it was nice eating outside. Overall, I really liked it here. All the hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are nice and comfortable. There plenty of activities you can do on the hotel grounds and in the immediate area. The surrounding area is beautiful. There is something for everyone and is a great place for couples, families, and maybe even a group of friends. I came here on a Livingsocial deal in August and wasn't impressed with much. The staff was okay but a little inexperienced, and there's a cool fishing pond but no fishing poles. Similarly there are decent bike trails but the bikes aren't in great condition. The restaurant is amazing though, and the rooms are very comfortable. Graeagle is cute to go and visit, and it is very pretty. Probably will not come back, unfortunately. read more

Pros: We went over Christmas and it was beautiful with all the snows. Price is very cheap considering the holiday season. Room has a nice view and was clean. Also, it's dog friendly without charging a fee. We had dinner (duck breast and rib eye steak) and they are all very delicious. The wine was very strong though. :) Cons: Breakfast is included but only boiled eggs, oatmeal, mixed cereal, bad bread, old fruit, coffee and orange juice. There is nothing much around. read more

When I imaged touring a venue for my future wedding I imagine the specialist wanting to get to know who we are as a couple and what our vision is for our special day. When we arrived for our tour at Chalet view lodge, we were greeted but the staff wasn't very engaging. Our tour was very average and we felt the woman giving our tour was not as engaging and friendly as we hoped she would be. Her name was Logan. She not once asked anything personal about us (how long we've been together, when we got engaged, what our vision is for the big day, etc) and seemed very by the book with what the venue included. She lacked enthusiasm and made our experience one that we never hope to have again. The staff should be able to give examples, sell the services that are included in the venue pricing especially when we disclose our budget is 60-70k... I mentioned on multiple occasions I had no idea what I was doing and I felt that should have been an opportunity to explain things more in detail and not just going down a little of a pages that were printed for us. When it came to talking about the services and pricing we were discussing it all in the main lobby which I found very odd. I would have liked to talk about price and details in a private area. She was also very vague about what the process looked like once we signed paper work and put a deposit down. When we asked how soon things would happen after signing, she said it would be about a month. I would have liked to know what the first step is and what comes after. Our questions were answered but not thoroughly. I could have given someone a better tour and sold the services better and I have no experience. Being friendly, interested and excited for couples who are planning one of the biggest days of their life goes a long way and we probably would have been ready to pick a date and put a deposit down if we were treated that way. I hope other couples don't have an experience like this again. Especially when we drove 3 1/2 hours to get here. read more

What a gorgeous place. In the three times I have stayed here, we have experienced exceptional service and very comfortable accommodations. If you're looking for a getaway that feels a world away from Reno (but is only an hour drive), definitely check out Chalet View. I have only stayed during the winter and have enjoyed lovely nature walks, the fireplace, the hot tub. Hope to go in the summer! read more

Hidden gem! So many fun things to do on site...swimming, fishing pond, games galore. The front rooms are a bit noisy in the am with the traffic but if you keep the windows closed it's not bad. Staff is super friendly. Not much for food options but the on site brewery is awesome ! read more

Some places look so much nicer in photos then you get to where your going and your like eh this didn't match up. Well that's is not the case with the Chalet View Lodge. The grounds are kept up wonderfully. Inside and out is just stunning! Noting not to like about my stay here. I didn't go to the spa or eat at the restaurant that's why I didn't give it 5 stars because I don't know what the food is like, however the outdoor seating and fire place look amazing! The pool area is nice lots of chairs pool toys and a little cabana to sit in. I would stay here again and next time I would like to bring the entire family! Very happy with our stay here thus far! Rustic lodge feeling with private cabins and lots of activities set up with great, friendly staff in every service area. The environment is just beautiful. The restaurant absolutely requires advance reservation and the food is very good. Sadly no dessert options at the restaurant. Birds chirping right outside. Bunnies hopping along the grass. A pond for fishing. Horseshoes etc. the cabins do have kitchens that include a few plates, bowls,glasses and cutlery. Also some frying pans but no pots. Very dog friendly place, but be aware that housekeeping will not enter if your dog is inside without you being there. If you need anything, just go to the front desk. They are very responsive. The free breakfast includes granola, hard boiled eggs, fruit, muffins, juices, oatmeal, tea, coffee. During the few days of our visit, we did run into some issues but the staff did a good job of responding quickly and they were quite considerate. This is a "rustic" property so keep that in mind. The front door had a crack which was big enough to see light through. There are gouges in the post in the cabin by the stairs that were large and had not been patched. Someone apparently had a larger dog who left some teeth marks in the front window blinds that had not been replaced. These things did not bother us because the beauty of the property and the friendly staff outweigh those things for us. We did have a clogged toilet on day one and told the repair person that the floor seemed wet so there may be more of a plumbing leak there. He fixed the toilet clog but the leak continued. The morning of day 2 I went to use the bathroom and water was coming up through the tile as I stepped on it and I slipped. Informed the front desk at 7 am and the maintenance people arrived around 8 am to begin work on it. It was a toilet leak but also a bigger leak and they diligently worked on it. Not ideal that hours went by on both days when we could not use the bathroom and had to walk up to the main lobby for restroom use in addition to waiting for them to be done in order to shower and prepare for our activities. Then again, things break and they did respond quickly and offered a discount since they had no other cabin available for us to move to. I think that's the best we could hope for. The tv has very limited channels, no movie channels and is too old to hook up our Apple TV but get outside and enjoy the lovely property. We would come again. To get a five star I would look for more attention to detail, repairs in the rooms, upgrade the TV and make sure things are all working. Sadly the Starbucks in the lobby is the only one for miles and thee Espresso machine wasn't working either day we went. Still, we would recommend this place for its unique environment and hospitable staff. read more

I came up here with my boyfriend for a romantic weekend getaway. So perfect, we loved almost everything about our stay. Our suite was perfect, almost didn't want to leave ;) love love loved our balcony view. Complimentary breakfast could've been better, but it gave us an opportunity to go local and eat out. read more

I loved this place! I want to give it 4.5 stars, but to keep them humble, I'm giving it just 4 stars. First, the rooms were beautiful. First bed was exceptionally comfy, the second one... still good but not as supportive. I adored the decor. Loved their flooring! I totally need that flooring in my house. Next, my favorite part is that they are pet-friendly with a $25/night charge. Okay, that sounds a bit steep but I understand people have allergies, and they apparently use that fee to cover a thorough cleaning of the room for other guests. Fair enough, but I left that room pretty clean with only some dog hair on their little area rugs. My next favorite part...the grounds! The 9-hole golf course was a perfect playground for me and my puppy--featured in some of the pics I uploaded. I don't know how they can water so much during this drought, but that course is green! A bit too soaked in some areas for my comfort level. My feet got soaked as well. :( Breakfast is continental. Enough said. They have Starbucks though! That's how I found the place. The Grille was closed when I arrived--apparently some problem in the kitchen. After reading another review, I think the manager/chef quit. Just guessing. It was closed for a party on my third and final night as well. I didn't try on the second night. WiFi, I didn't get to use. The TV in the first room didn't work, but I didn't really need it anyway. Finally, the only reason I could stay here was that they practically honored the State rate. So if you are a State worker, take advantage of staying at this location! They charged me $95.00/night because they originally gave me the golf course view. The manager wouldn't give me the State rate when I moved to another room. I was disappointed, but overall it was worth it, so I didn't fuss. read more

We have stayed here at least 8 times now and will be heading back for another. The staff here are so nice and helpful and go out of their way to make you feel at home. For example, the restaurant closes at 8:30pm. We arrived, hungry, at 9pm. Even though they had already started breaking down the kitchen and dining room, they let us order whatever we wanted and served us a very good dinner, drinks, etc. Our last visit was on Thansgiving and Tracie was not only waiting tables, she was the bartender, the barista, the front desk person and she did it all flawlessly and with a smile on her face. Since my first review, the breakfast and everything else just keeps getting better and better. (LOVE the french toast.) Anyone who gives this place a bad review must just be a whiner. This is a remote location and they make the absolute best of it. read more
