I think this restaurant may specialize in entrees (not dim sum), which is what other people ordered. I got the shiu mai and char siu bao, which were okay. They tasted similar to a reheated version from the supermarket, and didn't quite have the quality I hoped for. The dishes took 45 minutes to come out, which I also wasn't too stoked with. However, the staff was super friendly.

It's better to make a reservation, as it gets very crowded, but the staff is kind and will try to accommodate you if you show up at rush hour unexpected. You might get a tiny table against the wall, but you will still be served efficiently. The dim sum is out of this world. They come close after the best dim sum places we've been to in Chinatown in New York, Montréal, and Ottawa. No exaggeration. The portions are generous, the food is clearly homemade (no frozen dim sum or microwaved rice here!), and the ingredients fresh. They have a better choice and better prices for drinks than the other Asian-fusion places mentioned earlier (€2.50 for a delicious mango, litchi, or goyava drink, as opposed to €3.80 for watered down versions elsewhere.) Some reviewers have mentioned the decor negatively. We loved it. The restaurant is covered in carved wood panels from the 50s, which I like much better than cold, black & white emptyish designer spaces which seem to sprout everywhere recently. There are always Chinese students for dinner, which is a good sign! The manager speaks English and is very friendly.

Restaurant Hongkong - Man erlaubt mir auch einen Blick in die geschäftige Küche, es sieht es sauber aus.

The interior is, indeed, strangely cluttered and I have tried to ignore the distinct feeling of less-than-sanitary conditions. But I mostly took issue with my last experience here, when I was taking my girlfriend out to dinner and we decided to stop in at around 10pm. We sat down at a free table when a waitress came up to us and said "take-out?" So I said, "No, we'd like to eat in, if that's okay." Just "No," came the barked response. So I said, "Okay, so we can't eat here?" "No." Maybe her German was bad, but that didn't seem to be the main problem. After that, I haven't come back, even though I live very close by.

The prices are very reasonable, friendly staff, great menu selection. I heard this place is known for their soups so I had the Tom Gaeng Kah with chicken, and rice on the side. Delicious!!! The rice was perfect, the soup very tasty, the chicken was tender and not dry, and the presentation was impressive. We are thinking of going back next week! It is a very small place and right around noon it was packed with students from the nearby university. I was excited to learn that on Saturdays they offer cooking classes for about 12€ and I think I will be signing up for one! Guten appetit!
