For nearly thirty years of my life, I encountered what I believed to be an insurmountable amount of anguish. And, although the presence of such a painful feeling was evident to me, I learned to conceal and muffle it over the years--never truly dealing with it head on. A year ago it seemed certain that my depression would win. For lack of better words: I was gone. I couldn't stand straight without shaking uncontrollably, I was losing weight at an alarming rate, and my mind seem to get the best of me.
Nevertheless, while I wish I could go on about my "journey," I only briefly mentioned it to say this: I could have never won my battle without the help of Dr. Diana Chacon. Years of medication never really did the trick. In fact, it pales in comparison to her expertise. Despite my doctor's advice, I never sought additional help because of a bad experience during my college years with a mental health professional. However, Dr. Chacon, almost instantly dispelled any beliefs I possessed simply by instilling comfort. She has a welcoming presence about her that allows me to trust and believe in her; as a result, it makes it easy to believe in myself. Because of her, I have learned that the "journey isn't so much about becoming anything. It's about unbecoming everything that isn't really me." She has taught me a multitude of practices, some discarded and others still practiced, that ultimately aided in getting me healthy. She encourages my efforts, is confident in her abilities, and possesses a compassion that only those who wish to understand a person would have. She is honest and she is firm; all of which was necessary to help me.
Again, I wish I could go on about my experience with Dr. Chacon, but I am aware that this is a review, not a memoir, and hope not to discourage people from reading because I may have written too much. Long story short, today I can laugh, stand straight, and value myself--something that I NEVER thought possible. I am forever in debt to her. She is honestly god sent. Therefore, I encourage everyone in search of a psychologist to seek her assistance. read more
