May God have mercy on the souls of those who have walked away from their Faith in God. Walked away from Grace Valley and even more so those who have bashed this church verbally. I, a sinner, first visited GVCC Years ago with my husband. We live in Southern California, and struggle with ever finding a church down here that can pierce our souls with God's Truth like GVCC did. We thirst daily to hear God's Word preached without apology - Thank Goodness for GVCC website with Audio sermons that I can listen to while driving to work, working out at the gym or spending time in family devotions with my children. I know the sadness and troubles in our lives are a direct correlation of our sin, disobedience and lack of application of Gods Word in our lives. I pray for grace, mercy and wisdom to some day soon deny myself completely and leave the riches of this world and head to Davis, California to serve God in a way that pleases Him.

I was a founding elder of GVCC back in 1975, and finally escaped with my wife and children in 2004…read more We were told that to leave the church meant we would go to hell, because it would be breaking a life-time commitment/vow that we were all pressured to make. In all my years there I saw so many horrendous examples of abuse: spiritual, psychological, physical and sexual. There is not space or time to describe it all. One example: If one spouse leaves the church the spouse who remains is often encouraged to separate or divorce. Children who leave the church are often cut off and even disowned by their parents. The trail of destroyed lives is a long one. For more info visit https://www.theartofdecultstruction.com/ P.S. Another reviewer wrote "If you have children, enroll them in the school but don't get too involved in the church." I have to say emphatically do not enroll them in the school, regardless of what you have heard about its academic excellence. Children are horribly treated there and I know of several who years later still bare the scars.

This review is for St. James wedding coordinator and planning. I am not a parishioner of St. James…read morebut priest Father Bong Rojas was kind enough to perform my nuptial mass at St.Francis in Sacramento. His preparation was incredibly kind and down to earth. I felt that at the time he delivered the homily at our mass, he really knew me and my husband. The St. James wedding coordinator is WONDERFUL. Mrs. Colenzo was hands down the most helpful person we encountered in 3 parishes! She is a calm person, helpful and very organized. She had so many good ideas to help make our mass go smoothly and was able to help us over the phone and accommodate our schedule when we came in to Davis from SF. If you are trying to decide on a wedding location and you have the option to marry in Davis, do it! The best support and organization in all of the Sacramento Parish.

Following those years I started coming to St. James after hearing Father Bong Rojas pastor there. Nowadays I stop in occasionally for daily mass at 7AM (Father Doogan) to start the day early/right and not be late for work or cut into my evening (compared to the 8:30AM or 6:30PM options at Divine Mercy Natomas closer to home). Was most recently there for Ash Wednesday. There is a small parking lot in the front of the church along B Street, but also a larger parking lot behind the church, entrance on W. 14th. The pews are pretty creaky and the sound system is showing signs of age too, which can be forgiven as part of its "charm" I suppose...kneelers still in pretty good shape. Stained glass windows are beautiful. Also, this may be the foodie part of me, but their communion host (wafer) has a nice taste to it. I can't say that about all parishes. I don't go to Sunday mass here, so I only get to see the one piano player or cantor, and lectors rather than full altar servers and choir. I appreciate the ringing of the altar bells during the consecration of bread and wine -- not every church does that either.

Thank you Tyronne for your three messages on Reset! I loved this topic on making decisions for a great start. As you said, actions speak louder than words. I personally was grieved when I checked out this church back in August 2019. I was new and I…read moredeliberately came late, yet I was the first person there. The staff and pastor were very welcoming, but the people who attended did not seem spiritually hungry at all. Everyone nonchalantly came in 15-30 minutes late. The worship was like a concert and I could not sense the presence of God. People who were incredibly emotional during worship slept during the sermon. During the closing songs, these same people who slept during the sermons woke up and became very involved in the worship. I attended some new group on bible foundations. The people I spoke with told me about prayer mtg, but their main emphasis was that Bayside has a phenomenal worship team and that I should come check out the worship team and this was coming from a small group leader. As much as I wanted to stay, I couldn't see myself growing spiritually at this church. I do know that since then, there is a new pastor who sensed that the church was built on the wrong foundation. I hope that since then, the foundation would be based on Biblical teaching and prayer.
