Since it's a bit early to watch it livestream, this review is about their online content of past messages. Pleased to see a wealth of recorded messages from earlier in the year. There's at least 29 topics and each includes a set from the series. Featured messages on hope, lessons, family, love, prayer, and my personal favorite....Reset. Thank you Tyronne for your three messages on Reset! I loved this topic on making decisions for a great start. As you said, actions speak louder than words. I appreciate the reminder to not forget grace, having honorable relationships, and being of service to God and doing the work He calls us to do. Have a blessed day everyone! Source: John 21

I personally was grieved when I checked out this church back in August 2019. I was new and I…read moredeliberately came late, yet I was the first person there. The staff and pastor were very welcoming, but the people who attended did not seem spiritually hungry at all. Everyone nonchalantly came in 15-30 minutes late. The worship was like a concert and I could not sense the presence of God. People who were incredibly emotional during worship slept during the sermon. During the closing songs, these same people who slept during the sermons woke up and became very involved in the worship. I attended some new group on bible foundations. The people I spoke with told me about prayer mtg, but their main emphasis was that Bayside has a phenomenal worship team and that I should come check out the worship team and this was coming from a small group leader. As much as I wanted to stay, I couldn't see myself growing spiritually at this church. I do know that since then, there is a new pastor who sensed that the church was built on the wrong foundation. I hope that since then, the foundation would be based on Biblical teaching and prayer.

Let me ask you this: why does a church need a Yelp page? Is it running a business? And then all the…read more5 star reviews, a concerted effort for recruiting freshmen and transfer students even before they come on campus? Anyway, for the actual review. Theology remains on the conservative side. Do what you will with this information, as it's neither here nor there in terms of how this would affect me rating it. Say goodbye to any other friends you might want to make and keep at Davis or after you finish at Davis. Your time is basically solely dedicated to the church. During freshman year, you'll be invited to so many events. It's fun! Sure, but that means less time to meet new people. Then after in sophomore, junior, and senior year, you're given more and more responsibilities, it will most likely take away from your chances to befriend people outside the church. If you leave, they'll be too busy to acknowledge you or keep in touch with you. I've seen peers do extremely poorly in their studies from spending so much time at the church. It resulted in some of them failing out or having to take remedial courses. Prepare to feel bad and guilty about yourself, by the way. The church doesn't outright teach on grace through action instead of freely given grace, but there's a lot of peer-pressure. Really perpetuates many to be workaholics to show they "love" the church. Just my experiences. Feel free to browse subreddit /r/GracepointChurch for more criticisms. 1/5 do yourself a favor and join a different church.

Now Davis is my spiritual home for my family and me. There are many excellent churches in Davis and fellowships on campus. So whether you are a UCD college student looking for a fellowship/church or a young adult wanting to jumpstart your faith, I'd recommend you check it out for yourself and make your judgments.

I know many kids raised this way fall away from church once they go off to college. When my son went off to UC Davis he was recovering from Covid pandemic depression and didn't really want to go to church. For months I prayed for him and sent him links to Christian gatherings around Davis but he was lukewarm and not receptive. Then one day a classmate invited him to a college ministry from this church. He met the nicest and most encouraging group of friends ever. This church provides so much loving support to college kids, many who come to UC Davis for a few years and then leave. But they will leave with greater faith and better equipped to live out their Christian lives outside of school. Priceless. Thank you.

It pains me to write this bc UCC has been my home church for over 10 years. I started attending bc…read moreI love the community and served on volunteer staff for both Junior High then High School ministry. I've also served at MOPS, am an UCC member, and even worked on staff as an admin assistant at one point. Churches are never perfect, so this is not a complaint on that. I want to write this review bc I don't believe UCC to be clear enough on where they stand on the LGBTQ community. They have events like "How to love on your LGBTQ community" and yet there are glass ceilings in place (which are not loving). It's important for people to make informed decisions about their church community. There were many years in ministry where there were more LGBTQ people volunteering with me than not. It was seemingly welcoming and we even spoke many times about inclusion and equality with staff (paid and unpaid). Apparently that's not the case. You can only serve if you are part of the LGBTQ community if you are celibate (which to John, the pastor, apparently means no dating either). I had some friends who are a part of the LGBTQ community that don't go to UCC (unbiased) read over UCC's website and pick out what is unclear or ambiguous. My husband and I then met with John to go over it. He agreed to change some things, but not others (the all means all part). So far they haven't been corrected and I know we weren't the only ones who have asked for this change. If you want to claim that you love the LGBTQ community (which John claimed in the congregation LGBTQ meeting) then "No person should have to wonder the limits of their welcome. The vulnerability entailed in investing into a community is difficult enough -- LGBTQ+ people should not have to constantly worry about when the other shoe is going to drop. Even when directly asked, many church leaders do not give straightforward answers about the church's policies towards LGBTQ+ people. It often takes multiple conversations and years of relationship-building before clarity is delivered -- and by then, the damage is already done. It is unreasonable to expect people to jump through hoops to learn how policies that affect them will be enforced." All this was said to John in our meeting in which imo was really hard to get a clear answer out of so we had to ask lots of clarifying questions. In the end, he was clear, but we'd like for the website to reflect that. So hopefully this review can help others make an informed decision. UCC please be clearer. You have hurt a lot of people how you have handled this situation. You don't get to claim to love the LGBTQ community and lead them on. You don't get to claim to love the LGBTQ community and not check in on them after holding a whole congregational church meeting on the matter. You don't get to say you love them and there be no action to do so (or at least this was the impression we got after our meeting with John). If you want to keep that opinion. Sure. Just be clear.

His preparation was incredibly kind and down to earth. I felt that at the time he delivered the homily at our mass, he really knew me and my husband. The St. James wedding coordinator is WONDERFUL. Mrs. Colenzo was hands down the most helpful person we encountered in 3 parishes! She is a calm person, helpful and very organized. She had so many good ideas to help make our mass go smoothly and was able to help us over the phone and accommodate our schedule when we came in to Davis from SF. If you are trying to decide on a wedding location and you have the option to marry in Davis, do it! The best support and organization in all of the Sacramento Parish.

Following those years I started coming to St. James after hearing Father Bong Rojas pastor there. Nowadays I stop in occasionally for daily mass at 7AM (Father Doogan) to start the day early/right and not be late for work or cut into my evening (compared to the 8:30AM or 6:30PM options at Divine Mercy Natomas closer to home). Was most recently there for Ash Wednesday. There is a small parking lot in the front of the church along B Street, but also a larger parking lot behind the church, entrance on W. 14th. The pews are pretty creaky and the sound system is showing signs of age too, which can be forgiven as part of its "charm" I suppose...kneelers still in pretty good shape. Stained glass windows are beautiful. Also, this may be the foodie part of me, but their communion host (wafer) has a nice taste to it. I can't say that about all parishes. I don't go to Sunday mass here, so I only get to see the one piano player or cantor, and lectors rather than full altar servers and choir. I appreciate the ringing of the altar bells during the consecration of bread and wine -- not every church does that either.
