I was so grateful to have Dr. Z come to my apartment to care for my newborn and me. Dr. Z is knowledgeable, kind, and flexible. The model of having the first two months of my child's care from home was so comforting- it allowed me and my baby to stay in the home and rest and heal after delivery. Meg from Tova health handled all the admin stuff. She made scheduling, paperwork, and setting-up the patient portal super simple. When it was time to transition beyond the first two months of care, Dr. Z and Meg helped us find the best pediatrician and make sure they had all our records. Awesome experience! Tova Health is the best!

I was not able to get out of bed for over a week after the birth, so our first meeting was with her sitting at the foot of my bed. Thank goodness we chose her for my daughter's pediatrician because there was no way I would have been able to take her to an office. I really needed the fourth trimester care to help me process the trauma from birth, and Dr. Z let me cry and repeat the story over and over again. I'll never forget the time she hugged me and promised me something good would come out of it. She was also provided excellent care to my daughter. I will never forget our crazy first meeting and her kindness. She listened and provided me care when my own OB/GYN's office failed to do so. It is absolutely ludicrous the postpartum care we receive. This fourth trimester care model should be mandatory everywhere.

Unfortunately, I was just told that Dr. McKee, who is excellent, won't be able to see any patients for annual visits anymore. When I asked why, the scheduler said that the manager instructed them not to schedule any annual visits with the doctors in the practice anymore -- only the nurse practitioners or PAs. This is terrible for continuity of care. I should be able to see my doctor. I didn't schedule an appointment. Our medical system is so broken in the U.S.

Dr Thacker is very knowledgeable and absolutely sure of what she's talking about when it comes to the lady parts. She made sure to go through each step to find and fix my problem. Along the way she kept me informed with what she was doing and why. She recommended a few options for care and also gave her suggestions but in the end left it up to me to decide what I wanted to do about my health. This not only made me comfortable but happy that she was allowing me to choose. I am so grateful for and extremely happy I found her. Dr Thacker's staff is extremely kind, patient and knowledgeable, I would specifically like to mention Katie who I love so much, she always makes me feel comfortable and at home when I visit the office! Chris also made the check in and checkout process easy and simple and was so helpful and knowledgeable when it came to insurance and payments. The facility itself is very clean and always at the optimal temperature so you remain comfortable even while waiting for your appointment. In closing the flexibility, willingness to work with my schedule and fit me in at the last minute really meant a lot to me while receiving care. Def would recommend this place above all if you're in or around the Boston/Medford area!

Horrible experience with Woman's HealthCare at Waltham. Went for midwifery care for my second…read morepregnancy because they were recommended. The front desk, lab, and nursing staff were cold, distant, and robotic. It was my first appointment and they expected me to know where to go and how to do the regular testing procedures that they require at every appointment. They were not warm, friendly, or helpful at all! One woman was even a little patronizing by telling me to "calm down, take a breath, and drink my water" when I was excited to schedule the first ultrasound to see my baby. They tried to automatically schedule me for early blood tests and ultrasound without asking if I wanted them. At other facilities I've been to, the reason for these tests was explained and they always asked if we wanted them, which I declined. Waltham requires urine tests at every appointment, a full physical and pap for new patients (even though I've had both within the appropriate time frame at other facilities), and suggests unnecessary testing as often as possible. Even the paperwork they send you home with is almost 50% information about what can go wrong during your pregnancy and all the unnecessary medical tests they can run for you. It was terrifying! I'm healthy, low risk, and my last pregnancy had no complications so there is no reason to scare woman about every single highly-UNLIKELY thing that could possibly go wrong. We don't need an overload of information that probably won't apply to us, it will just keep us up at night worrying! During my appointment, as the nurse took my medical history, she typed my surgery dates incorrectly into my chart and I stopped to correct them multiple times. They also did not type my full medication list into the computer (I wrote it out on intake paperwork so I didn't say anything because I had been correcting them enough and wanted to stop meddling). I requested a modified appointment schedule as I already had a primary provider elsewhere and they refused, requiring me to have the full spectrum of appointments, which essentially doubled the appointments on my calendar. They may just be being conservative and thorough, but for someone who doesnt like hospitals, it felt like they were trying to bill as many procedures as possible for the insurance payout. I dont like being used as a lab rat to boost a hospital bottom line. After the appointment, they said the would call me to schedule my ultrasound appointment later that afternoon and they didnt. I never got a call, only found out when I could finally log into my online chart. Of course they scheduled it at a time that didn't work for me because they never called to talk with me before scheduling it. Took me a week to log into the medical chart because they spelled my name incorrectly on my record. I filled out all the intake paperwork and wrote my name multiple times and they still spelled it wrong! I only found out when I called the tech service desk when I couldn't create an online chart account. Then I had to spend an hour calling multiple offices to get the spelling of my name correctly, only to find out they also misspelled it on my email address also so I needed to start the process all over again. When one of my lab test results came back outside of the normal range, I requested a referral to a specialist for a second opinion. When I asked to speak with the midwide directly about the test results, they refused. The nurse I spoke with said that they were not concerned about the out-of-range test result and dismissed my concerns. I felt so worried when they tested for a problem at the appointment, and then when the problem was confirmed via test result, they dismissed my request for further testing and treatment. I was not pleased at all with how I was treated at Woman's HealthCare at Waltham and immediately switched providers. It was very disappointing because I had heard such good things about Mount Auburn Hospital. Your experience may be different, of course, but I just wanted other people to be aware of my experience. There are much better providers in the area and you dont have to settle for being dismissed, disregarded, and used as an easy paycheck. Go somewhere else.

The only downside to the office was having to go to the hospital for the ultrasounds. I had read rave reviews about Mt. Auburn (including multiple people claiming to have had a "wonderful" labor there), all the while wondering how wonderful labor really could be. I now understand completely. From the moment that we called the hospital after contractions started to the arrival and long delivery process, each nurse and midwife that took care of me provided the utmost care, professionalism, and explanation of what was happening next and why. Amidst the inevitable anxiety of a first labor, I felt fully cared for and at ease. I can't thank the nurses enough for their tremendous care during both the labor and delivery process, as well as postpartum care for myself and baby. Postpartum, the nurses and a wonderful lactation consultant provided guidance on everything from what to expect during the first few days of our newborns' life to feeding techniques to giving the baby a first bath. Recovery was peaceful and allowed us time to bond as a family of three. By the time we left the hospital, we felt prepared enough to care for our newborn and with the opportunity to call with any questions that we might have. Thank you, Mt. Auburn!

I'm very disappointed by my recent experience with the Midwives at Mt. Auburn Hospital. My prenatal…read morecare was pretty standard, nothing exceptional. I had a low-risk pregnancy and everything went according to plan. The midwife I saw continually pushed for induction through castor oil, membrane sweeps, and evening primrose oil - these are not proven to be effective and are not positively backed by scientific research. I cannot believe that they don't follow evidence-based research when making medical recommendations. I went into labor spontaneously and progressed well. However, during my entire active labor, the midwife was in the room for no more than 5 minutes total. She basically did a quick pelvic exam and then left me on my own. I had no one in the room with me other than my husband. There was no nurse and no midwife - I felt so unsupported. After about 6 hours of labor, the midwife came back in and suggested a peanut ball and a warm bath, but she disappeared without setting me up with either. I guess my husband was supposed to figure this out? She returned a few hours later and I requested nitrous oxide - She said I needed a form for this (which was already in my file) and disappeared again. I never received anything to manage my pain and never saw the midwife again. I would have hoped that the midwife would have suggested labor positions to ease pain, pressed on my back/hips, showed my husband some ways to help (we took Bradley classes, but some extra direction in that moment would have been appreciated), provided encouragement, shown care, and simply been present. I feel like I was ignored and neglected. No one even brought me water. It wasn't until an OBGYN arrived that I felt like I was validated and heard - she got an anesthesiologist and I received an epidural. The OBGYN delivered my baby via c-section after failure to progress. My after-care at Mt. Auburn was pretty good. I felt all the nurses were caring and competent. I had to self-advocate to get time with the lactation consultants, but they were helpful. Takeaways: If you want support of any kind during labor, you'll need to hire your own doula. If you plan to breastfeed, arrange for your own postpartum doula or seek support from a non-hospital affiliated IBCLC. I am exclusively breastfeeding in spite of the care I received and not because of it. Just find a good OBGYN and forget about all the midwife nonsense - they're basically useless.
