The only entrance for students in the morning...
    Edna G.

So far, it's almost the end of the first quarter of the school year. I am having mixed feelings about this school that my youngest son goes to, not like my other daughters who came from Alvarado Middle school in the same district. There are only two middle schools in Union City. The staff are pretty friendly but are unorganized with how things function for events. There are a few teachers that are pretty good that I really like. I experienced their kind of organization during the sixth grade orientation. They were so unorganized that we were there for about 6 hours!! It was not a quick orientation and the parents and kids were everywhere. They kept apologizing. There are 1400 kids that attend this school so they need to be better at! The campus looks pretty updated and has a baseball, track, basketball area and a gym. The only entrance to the school is on the side when school opens and they only open 15-20 minutes before the bell. The kids are not allowed to enter through the office. I guess they don't have staff to monitor the kids who is at the school but very inconvenient if your child needs to go early to go to the office or need to speak to the teacher before hand or even hang out to study before a test. It's hard for me not to compare to Alvarado Middle as I had three of my girls attend there and I really liked that school. I just don't get there system. They have an IEP program which my son goes to and the staff have been very accommodating with my needs for my son. I am still doubtful about their education for IEP students and if it's helping my son but I will update at the end of the year if things get better and my son shows improvement with these teachers. The roads going to the school are always crowded before school and after. You really have to come early to find parking and wait for your child. There is really not much staff to monitor outside the areas since the beginning of the school year. So far, its an ok school. It has not met my standards yet.

Wouldn't recommend office staff is horrible, doesn't give any warm welcome or greeting. Very slacking for a middle SCHOOL.

We chose this school as we had not heard or read good reviews of our local public school…read more He has the best time at the school and is excited to go. He saw great growth during his time there. The teachers and staff care for the students and are very competent. The let the kids express themselves and let their personalities shine. It is easily one of the better schools in Union city.

Let me start with the positive side of this school. Most of the class teachers are super nice!…read more Our child has been in this school for 5+ years and came across all the wonderful teachers. Per my child, most of the students are friendly and from good educational families. We are giving 3 stars for class teachers and their teaching skills. But there are several negatives about this school. Even though all parents knows about it we can't do nothing. We are not able to switch to another school as there are no better options at this location. Negatives: 1. They raise their monthly fees every year but they don't improve any quality to their services. My kid always complains about spider webs in the bathrooms and it's always very dirty. So, he refuses go to bathroom and holds for whole day. 2. No extra curricular activities like sports tournaments like running, soccer, basketball, table tennis or any competitive events for building children's physical and mental strengths. 3. No fun events; students should have singing and dancing, cultural events, talent show, etc. 4. No sports equipments provided to students; they could have provided at least these basic sports equipments: PingPong tables, chess boards, soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, etc. So, kids can have fun on recess time or after school time. We hope school administration will take necessary action work on it to improve.

American High School, is the high school I attended because I live in North Fremont, specifically,…read more the Ardenwood area. Students of the following 6 Elementary Schools, Ardenwood, Forest Park, Warwick, Brookvale, Oliveira, & Patterson Elementary attend Thornton Junior High, and then finally they attend American. I started my education career at Ardenwood Elementary, then Thornton, and finally American High. First off even though the spirit of the school is lacking, it is still fun and enjoyable if you make it that way! Spirit Week for the students is one huge celebration each class celebrates for one week where their entire class creates cardboard props and put them inside/around the Rotunda to display them to everyone to see. Every year there's a different theme for each class, such as a different type of television show, board game, Disney theme, etc. During lunch, that week, each class gives a presentation/skit about their theme and try to prove their class is the best and has the most spirit!! One of the other popular events is RUSH Week, which is one week in September when clubs advertise themselves in the Rotunda during lunch. It's a time for you to learn more about all the different clubs on campus and join the ones that interest you. American High has about like 59 various different clubs for you to join. Another event would be Battle of the Boulevards, which is a Football game battle between us Eagles and our rival Huskies! The reason it's called Battle of the Boulevard, is because both American and Washington are located on Fremont Blvd, were both schools are trying to claim Fremont Blvd! (You're probably thinking, but what's so good about Fremont Blvd!? Nothing really, it's just the glory of owning it I suppose.) There are rallies at the school as well where on various Friday's, where after 6th period most of the students tend to go inside the school gymnasium and watch other fellow American High students perform dances, acts, skits, to show off their talent! If your son or daughter does not want to go inside and enjoy the rally, they have another option to stay inside the cafeteria and just hang out there with their friends. There are lots of other main events such as battle of the sexes week where each gender battles against the other in events, Eagle Nation Week, Staff Appreciation Week, International Week, and many more! Now onto the Academic side of American High. American offers many different course offerings for students to take. For Foreign Language, American offers, Mandarin, Spanish, French, and American Sign Language (ASL). Elective courses include, Architecture, Sculpture, Art, Studio Art, Photography, Web Design, Weight Training, Team Sports, Drama, Band, Choir, Guitar, Creative Writing, Public Speaking, Leadership, AVID, Parenting and Family Living, Filipino Heritage Studies, Psychology, Engineering, Law Enforcement & Administration of Justice (ROP), Marketing (ROP), Business Ownership (ROP), Culinary Arts (ROP) and many more! You also have your general courses, for Math, English, History, and of course Science. Overall, It's a pretty good school, lots of the teachers care, and it's just a great school for your student to attend. I was told by the front office that I can visit school after it ended so that's exactly when I came. Not only did they not allow me to enter but they were extremely rude and said that my teachers don't wanna see me on a Friday evening. They also said I have no right to come back here. As alumni I have every right to do so. They also made my friend have a panic attack. This is unacceptable behaviour from high school staff who should be looking out for the children. For the sake of everyone's wellbeing they should be fired!
