I cannot believe I am the first to review this place. Having spent years in Italia and going to restaurants in almost every province I feel honored. The food is some of the best Italian I have tasted outside of Italia. The pizza Margherita was choice, cooked properly, and came out swiftly. I also had the rigatoni bolognese, which was superlative. They even had a few obscure wines from southern Italy, one being Ciro from Calabria.
The service is typical. Very warm people, although I suspect that my ability to speak the language earned me a few added points. Southern Italians are usually more hospitable than those in Roma, or in the North, so you generally can't go wrong with a restaurant run by Calabrese or Siciliani. I found everyone to be warm and welcoming, rendering just the right amount of attention.
The ambiance is very minimal. Some of the best places I have eaten throughout Italy have had the exact ambiance of Centro Italiano. No fuss, no frills, just great food. What's the point of dining in a palace if the food is substandard? You can't go wrong eating here. read more
