Also they can provide advice on electrical information. Prices are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! I'd say 90- 95% of their stuff comes from mainland China but they don't mark it up like crazy. I purchased some flashing LED lights (meant to put on a bicycle) for $1.49 each for my dog's collar. A great place to come for your electrical and some hardware needs. If I'd listened to other people's advice, I would have bought a new tv over 10 years ago, I would have replaced my digital thermometer, bought a new coffee maker etc., got a new turntable. With regards to my turntable that is about 40 years old, I asked him if I would be better off buying one of those that he had on display, and he told me that mine was better, explained what features made it better, and that he would call be with an estimate. He did so the next day, and the repair was very inexpensive. If you want your items to last as long as possible, and not create more junk for the trash piles of the planet, getting things fixed is definitely better. He'll tell you if it's not worth repairing, and the estimate is free (in my experience).

Went to a place in Vaudreuil-Dorion suffice to say they did not fix the problem, so in desperation went to Surplustek...and guess what after a few days got a call that my PC was pretty sick, lots of malware, virus etc. incompatibility with some of my hardware, to make a long story short, my desktop is working just fine did a lot of cleaning up and disk cleaning. Very happy customer, the technician Stephane and his wife Virginie are fantastic and knowledgeable. I ordered a bluetooth speaker online and got it delivered. The price was $161.64 tx included. A few days later, I noticed its price dropped by $40 and I chatted with the online customer service who agreed to put a credit of $40+tx back to my credit card. The amount of $45.99 was actually deposited in my credit card account 2 days later. So the total price I paid for the purchase was $115.65 I went to the store located in Centre Laval to return the speaker because I this one isn't powerful enough for my needs and I've got a bigger and more expensive one. I provided all the information including the receipt to the lady working at customer service counter but for whatever reason I don't know, she wasn't able to process it and that, for about 20 minutes. Finally, another lady came in and got things done in a few minutes. However, when she showed me the refund amount, it's $114.96 which is less than what I paid. When I asked her why it's different, she said it couldn't be and when I showed her their difference, guess what, she answered "oh, that should be the eco fee but we already refunded your purchase". That's the 1st time ever a customer service representative let me know that you have to pay the eco fee even though you returned the whole thing in its original packaging! Wow !!!

Try that on your favourite Chinese website! Of course items are more expensive, but you're welcome to wait if you want cheaper. This shop has saved me from many a frustrating weekend where I was missing a bit to finish a project. They have everything a maker would want, from electronic modules for arduino, raspberry pi, micro-bit and the like, to hardware, tools, 3D printers, filament, and even 2020 extrusion in all sizes. My only gripe is that they are only open on weekdays. They would make a killing if they'd open on weekends as well.

I know: I am such a snob. Parts-wise, if you are looing for rows of capacitors and switches that you can actually pick up and touch, this is a terrific place. They have actually overtaken Addison as the better place to buy electronic components like caps, resistors, and board-level things like Raspberry Pi, Arduino and the like. I wouldn't buy semiconductors there (hello, that's what Digikey is for), but if you remember what electornics stores were like in the late last millenium, then you will have pretty good picture of what Abra looks like. they seem to have a lot of imported Asian components these days, but that is pretty par for the course. They have a good selection of soldering supplies and chemicals, whch are sometimes hard to find. Abra is great for the itmes that you need it now. If they have it online, you can just pop over to the store and pick it up.
