Like most women, I've wasted lots of time and money looking everywhere for just the right face and body products, only to be disappointed time and time again. That's when I thought I should just make my own, according to my own specifications. I've looked everywhere for soap and lotion making classes, and none of them appealed to me as much as Rene's because of her high standards of using organic and natural ingredients. After the first class, i was hooked. Why? My own vanity. Rene is the poster child for good skin. She has no makeup on and her skin is so smooth and blemish free! She is her own walking testimonial to the products she creates. When I heard how old Rene is, I knew I had to learn from her as much as possible because she looks over 15 years younger. My favourite products I've learned to make at Soap Making School so far are soaps (of course), butters, lotions, makeup remover, and shampoo. I read a lot about ingredients but Rene has encyclopedic knowledge about numerous ingredients that surpass anyone I've ever met. Needless to say, I've learned a lot from her. In class she is generous, patient, and so kind and sweet even when students mess things up. Even if you can't take her class just yet, I'd recommend signing up for her free newsletters. They are a wealth of information. If you are lucky enough to have the time to take a class, I'd recommend signing up early since I've seen how quickly some of Rene's classes fill up. Rene is one woman soap making empire. Besides all the selfish reasons I signed up for her classes, it's a treat to support small ethically-run businesses.

Classes are small, very hands on and easy to follow. During the 3 hour class we learned about the soap making process, how industry processes soap we see at the grocery stores. As they became teens, it gave them a supportive peer group outside of school. And, after an hour of singing, an hour of acting and an hour of dancing, he was pooped. The people who run Lights Up are ethical and decent, going that extra mile for kids. The teachers are often professionals in the business chosen for the ability to work with kids. If I could give this place a negative star, I would!…read more I toured the culinary school with my wife Janet, as I am potentially interested in becoming a master chef (seriously, though). We arrived and we were surrounded by nerds. Oh gee, you shoulda seen the suicidal emo guy! I mean, the crowd made me feel cool and I'm just a geeky old guy. From the start you could tell that the institution was not prepared to accommodate such a large group of prospective students. The relatively boring sugar-shaping demonstration was cramped and hardly visible unless you were in the front row. There were truffles for tasting that literally made us gag. I've never tried chocolate that tasted so much like tropical vomit. The facilities were unwelcoming and did not seem as clean as competing institutions that we also toured. The introductory presentation was insincere and failed to cover crucial information such as tuition costs and teaching methodology (very little emphasis on hands-on learning). We got the vibe that the institution was a corporate machine with an intricate marketing scheme rather than a school with a true dedication to teaching culinary arts. On a more positive note, for those looking to gain experience in the business and management side of the restaurant industry, AI seems to have a strong program and good career connections(?). However, the most horrifying aspect of our tour was when I noticed that the school serves bluefin tuna on their student-run restaurant menu!!! (For your information, this is a critically endangered species -- it's like serving roasted Panda bear.) I commented to the staff about my concern over their consumption of threatened wildlife, and I was laughed at. I would say you should think carefully before supporting such a corporate machine in disguise as an educational institution. Sincerely, Earl and Janet

NEVER GO TO THIS SCHOOL!…read more You pay A LOT and the Education that you receive is CRAP! I was expecting more from this school since it cost a lot. The teachers that the school hired were assigned to teach a class they did not know anything about. I am not blaming the instructor I am blaming the system. The school hired an instructor who only knew Animation in 3D studio max. In that class, we were supposed to learn to 3D model in that program. The instructor explains to us that they told him last minute what he will be teaching at his new job. It wasn't just this 1 instructor that was hired for something they have no knowledge about. There were other teachers who were in the same situation. There are more Negative stories I have about this school but I have decided not to tell it cuz this post is already long enough. Please ! don't go to this school!

Nimbus is GREAT!!!!! Excellent program, excellent people and a lot of fun to boot…read more From my experience, the school lived up to everything they said. The small classes are great as everyone gets a chance to get their hands on the board in each class, and the teachers have time to discuss any questions you may have and to reinforce the lessons on anything you may need extra help with. All of the teachers are still working in the business outside of the school, so you not only get opportunities to work with them and bands in school, but you also get opportunities to work with them outside of school on their own projects. You start from square one, things as simple as wrapping cables and how a mic should be put onto a mic stand, and work your way up to where you will be able to record a full band then edit, mix and master what you've recorded. And not just once, you'll be working on your own projects and class projects and then helping anyone and everyone with their projects as well. If you are really keen you can pretty much just live at the school and work on your craft 24 hours per day. In addition to class time, you will have access to the studios after school that you will be scheduled for and usually you'll be able to get more than your scheduled times as some students don't fully utilize their studio times and you can scoop them up. You can also combine times with other students. At one point in time I had a weekend where I spent more than 50 hours recording bands over a weekend with a number of different people. Totally exhausted by the end but it was great! Forget about normal hours and a normal life when you sign up. You'll be in school during the times you have chosen and in studio as often as you can get in. In my mind there were only two times of day, in school or sleeping. lol I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to run (be a gopher) at a local studio when Matthew Good was recording Lights of Endangered Species (my name is in the liner credits) and was also asked to work with one of the instructors with a band called We Need Surgery that you will be hearing about in the new year. This was all during my time in school. If you're good (and the timing is right) you might even be able to go to Garth Richardson's private studio to work with bands. At the moment there are about 6 students who are rotating while he and one of the instructors work with a new band. Not something you'd get at most schools. I did check out other schools before I signed on with Nimbus, but it was only at Nimbus where you never just sit in a classroom taking notes, you are ALWAYS in a studio. Yes, there are lots of notes, you will generally spend the first hour of every class writing them down and discussing them and then jumping in to put them into action. It's a great way to learn.

If ur flying across country or world to come here you should hear both sides. Nimbus is amazing, contrary to the other review the community is absolutely amazing in fact one of the best things here! Iv instantly made a friend in everyone in my class. They are amazing sweet people and some of them have come as far as korea and argentina to come here! The teachers are amazing and iv never had the great relationship and abillity to understand my teachers as much as here at nimbus.they are always currently working also on modern day hits and know the latest.masters of their craft! The owners are also amazing top industry leaders, if you dont belive me just google there names i dobt need to fight that one, fact and a google search will do it for me. The whole second floor is NOT hierarchy.... Its a parking garage lol but the thrid floor has the hierarchy ASWELL as 2 studios a live room an isolation booth and a room for the 24hour techs to help you with most equipment needs. Studio time is not a rarity if u book it in advance like ur told to and many people will invite you into there sessions giving you the abillity to be in studio everynight if you so desired. Class are far from crowded at around 10 people per class mine is 8 everybody can see and learn one on one.the student body is listened to. Regarding the stament no one has left and become big sleepytom an edm artist is an alumni who has worked along side diplo and many others and is at fetsivals all over north America. There are also about 3 other big names out of nimbus but i wobt name drop as i dont know them 100% and dont wanna mess it up. As for the rest of students the aim for most of them isnt to be top edm producers its to be engineers producers and live audio and film workers. So youll never hear there name if they are at the top of there industry. Its IS very expensive but its do able i do it living on my own as 21 year old. Basically besides the price nimbus is a dream and i would highly recommend it to anyone serious about this. Clearly the other yelper was a dick if he had no friends and couldnt get in studios. If ur not like him im sure everyone will love you. I could go on forever about the pluses but i just suggest you book a tour or skype tour with somone who works there to get all the info you need.

Now, I drive occasionally but fear my inexperience makes me more of a danger on the road. So I was nervous about my Class 5 road test, especially with only ten days to practice before the date. My sister got me in touch with Parmot and I immediately felt more at ease. Parmot knew everything about the test centre, the neighbourhood, and every point I would be evaluated on. He made me feel much more confident in my ability to pass the test. More importantly, he made me a better driver. He spotted all the bad habits I'd picked up from learning to drive without a qualified instructor. He got me started on replacing them with better ones--even though, of course, you can only do so much in ten days. I recommend Parmot highly for drivers who suffer with nerves or anxiety. he has a skill for recognizing when learners are getting stressed out and applying just the right amount of pressure to keep them improving without getting overwhelmed. Even when I sometimes struggled to catch certain words because of his accent, he was always patient and persistent in explaining the procedures until I understood them. Everything about the process was easy. Parmot accommodated my tight schedule by giving me five lessons in ten days. We started and ended each lesson at my address. The lessons were ninety minutes each but on many occasions, such as when we got stuck in traffic going out, he sacrificed more of his time to make sure I had trained the skills I needed to. On the day of the test, it was a Richmond blizzard! This was a surprise to everyone. The front desk clerk told us there had been a few no-shows that day by the time we arrived. Thanks to all my preparation and the confidence I gained with Parmot's guidance, I was able to keep a cool head for the test despite the curveball and I passed it with three minor notes. As I said to him, "I couldn't have done it without you."
