I found Dr. Goldberg, and made a consultation appointment with him. He took X-rays, examined my teeth, and said one of your tooth definitely needs root canal but the other one does not for now. Then he thoroughly explained what was going on with the tooth nerves inside my gum, why the tooth needed root canal and how the root canal could save my tooth. Dr. Goldberg's explanations were very convincing. Although very much scared of root canal procedure, I decided to go for it. The root canal treatment was completed in 2 sessions each 1.5 hours long (total of 3 hours). I found Dr, Goldberg kind, nice, considerate, caring, experienced and professional in his job. He never was in a rush. He always had time for my questions, and patiently addressed all my concerns and questions. He gave me his email address, his cellphone number and work number, and said feel free to call any time if you have any questions or concerns. During the root canal procedure, he checked on me several times to be sure that I was comfortable and was feeling no pain. Sometimes he made funny conversations to distract my thoughts from things were going on inside my mouth. After Dr. Goldberg got the root canal treatment done, I was so happy and satisfied that I hugged him. :) Two days later, he called me to follow up. What else could I want from a doctor? However, Dr. Smolyar's calendar was full, and I needed to get in quickly, so I was assigned to another dentist who was also great. Later, after that dentist had moved (and after a less-than-happy few appointments with a second dentist) I was able to change over to Dr. Smolyar. Dr. Smolyar is very calm and soothing, explains things well without a lot of hype or being pushy, and has a great sense of humor and 'chairside' manner. Having him work on my teeth was a 100% improvement over the dentist I'd switched over from. While my experience with the second dentist was enough to push me to another dentist, my experience with Dr. Smolyar was good enough to keep me from leaving the practice altogether. Recently I had an infection that he discovered (after I complained of pain) below a lower molar and unfortunately I needed an extraction. Despite taking care of my teeth in adulthood, I have had many issues. maybe because I grew up in the UK in an area without access to fluoridated water. She gave me 6 Veneers on my front teeth to correct my peg teeth, and I never thought I would ever smile confidently in my life until I got them. The receptionist, Lisa, is incredibly accommodating and tries her best to get you the attention and help you need, especially when dealing with insurance companies. So I did it and after that-- I never stopped feeling discomfort and pain. When I went back for a cleaning I reported my tooth was still hurting and was scheduled to re do that filling. After the second time, I felt even more pain and realized the filling was not done properly and the filling chipped off. I went back a THIRD time-- explained that there seems to be something chipped and was told she saw an infection in the x-ray and that I needed a root canal (not covered by insurance)... I couldn't believe it. So, I went to AN ENDODONTIST-- paid out of pocket and was told that based on a thorough evaluation and x-rays, I did not need a root canal. I then went to another dentist and they too said, "there is no infection". Please get a second opinion before you agree to anything this doctor recommends. Two stars--- because the Dental Hygenist that cleaned my teeth was EXCELLENT!
