Well, it's certainly memorable. Though hard to do justice in any attempt at description. It's…read moreeccentric. It's odd. It's offbeat. It's one-of-a-kind. This is five stars for odd/ weird/ out there.we went based on the name and the photos and proximity to Arsenal. There was no review and we had no idea what we were getting into. I keep thinking this is the kind of quirky place millennials who love rewatching "Harold and Maude" would love. You pay $12 entry fee, and are given a fancy map of the place, and a headset to listen to descriptions at each of the numbers along the disjointed path. Starting with color photocopies of world famous art. (Never seen that before). The very random art collection is disbursed through the building, as are some working artists and their work. There were also a couple rooms with wax figures of some famous persons through history. It's a mish-mash of all kinds of random stuff you'd find at yard sales, or scavenger hunts. In the attic space, more randomness, including a mini theatre that happened to be playing old Downton Abbey episodes while we were there. The best part of the place we didn't see much of: that they provide studio space for 50 artists.

We offer Monday night live model drawing, open to the public and a range of other workshops. With three galleries located on two floors of a beautiful 19th Century building, The Montreal Art Centre is also the perfect location for parties and events.

Here's another example of an amazing local organization that has had to temporarily close its doors…read moreas a response to the Covid-19 pandemic but which has responded by rapidly putting new services in place for the community. Tyndale is now offering telephone support for clients who are working to adapt their resumes and enter the workforce (all the more crucial now as more many Canadians find themselves out of work). They are checking in with families and offering online playgroups, and developing resources for Psychosocial assistance, Food Security and Online Learning Tools - contact them directly to receive that list. They are also reaching out directly to seniors in the community (more often than they already were!) in order to be that lifeline for folks who are more isolated and afraid than ever. If you are ready and able to provide some financial support to an organization doing a ton of good right here in Montreal, in Little Burgundy, you can donate directly to Tyndale here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/488

There's a free children's library upstairs and free 2 hour long classes including snacks several times a week depending on the age. I'm not sure about parking but it's walking distance to metro Georges Vanier. Great for the kids to run amok in the gym during the winter months and for meeting other parents. The after school program seems to be doing well. The building could use a little TLC but it provides a GREAT service to the local community. Especially to those who probably don't use Yelp and are new to the area.

I had the honour of visiting The Depot Community Food Centre - formerly the NDG Food Depot…read moreyesterday and getting a better idea of all the incredible programs being developed and run through this powerful community hub, and then shared whole heartedly by this passionate organization with other food security organizations around Montreal and around the country. Currently located in a former restaurant, the space which they open to the public for community dinners and emergency food box pickup is incredibly welcoming. There are picnic tables outside, small tables and chairs, a welcoming front desk, and a kitchen buzzing with volunteers. Being here truly makes you want to spend more time here. Twice a week this incredible space offers a free community meal to anyone who shows up - literally anyone. They do not ask people to present proof of income or anything like that. The goal here is truly to build community and to break isolation and to forge links between all members of our local Montreal community. The meal that is served showcases recipes that can be made using the exact ingredients made available in the emergency food baskets, so folks come for a meal, pick up their baskets if they need one, and then can get help from a variety of other practitioners including social workers, legal aide, folks who can help with meal planning - these days they are even helping people register and get ready to vote! The best. The chef here helped develop the menu at Damas so volunteers are learning from a very gifted pro, and the community at every level is being treated with love and respect, and respect for good food. There is so much more going on here, including hundreds of kids getting afterschool snacks, hundreds of families growing food through community gardens managed by the depot, intergeneration meals, cultural cooking, good food markets, and just so much more. I'm excited that Yelp will be doing more to be involved with supporting this world-changing organization in the future, so Yelp Elites watch for that, and everyone go check them out and see if there are ways that make sense for you to get involved. Because this is the good stuff.
