I left this review last month, but somehow it disappeared and left the business with an undeserved…read moresingle 5 star review from 2019 (probably prior to current management) My initial interaction with Exit 1 was very good. The lady who took my reservation and the two customer service reps that checked me in were very pleasant. There was a young man and a young lady whose name was on my email estimate Hailey Casto. I wasn't sure if I would need it the entire 24 hours and they let me know if I returned it after office hours I could simply drop the keys in the dropbox. We were able to get it in one trip, so I didn't use all the estimated miles, returned the gas to its previous 1/2 tank and dropped the truck off at 7:53pm, locked it up, and put the keys in the dropbox. I called to follow up the next day to make sure my return was fine. I told the individual who answered the phone who I was and that I had dropped my rental off after hours and wanted to make sure it was properly processed as I hadn't used all my estimated miles and wanted to know if the payment was adjusted. He asked if I checked it out to which I replied that I hadn't, I had dropped the keys in the dropbox after hours. He then said to me, "You don't have to be a smart ass about it." I was completely taken aback by that comment. I said I'm not being smart I just told you that I dropped the keys off after hours. He told me that I could have checked it out myself, but he had checked it in this morning and there were no problems with the return. I asked him if the miles were adjusted and he said my receipt had been emailed and I was only charged for the miles I used. I asked him why he was upset with me, was there a problem with dropping the keys off after hours? He stated that it was my tone of voice when I said I dropped off the keys. There was no tone. I simply answered his question when he asked if I had checked it in. The phone was also cutting in and out so I said I don't know what tone you think you heard, but I'm having trouble hearing everything you are saying, I'm also in a lot of pain from moving yesterday, you may hear discomfort in my voice, but I certainly am not giving you any tone/attitude, I just called to make sure my return went ok. He replied "whatever, your receipt has been emailed." I asked his name, and he said it was James. I looked on my e-receipt and saw the name, James Mitchell. FTR Even if he did think he heard the attitude in my voice, his response was unprofessional and uncalled for. I am an administrative assistant and I deal with irritable people occasionally but I would never call them a smart ass. I decided to call back and ask to speak to someone, especially since my interaction with all other employees was top-notch. A lady answered the phone and I asked if she was a manager which she stated she was not. I said PLEASE tell me James isn't the manager, she replied that he was. I told her about my interaction to which she apologized for my experience, she also stated she didn't usually work for that store, but she took my name and number and said someone would call me back. Someone did call me back... it was James. I told him I had no need to speak to him, as my complaint was about him. He told me there is no one above him, so I told him I would just post an online review and he said that was fine. I even called back a bit later to inform him I had noticed the driver's rear tire seemed low even after emptying the truck and he may want to check the tire pressure. Although his tone was completely different and he thanked me for bringing it to his attention he still did not apologize for his previously unprofessional behavior. I also noticed when submitting my review on another review platform that the majority of the negative comments in one way or another involve James the manager. So this behavior obviously isn't an isolated incident. I think he needs to take a cue from his employees as I dealt with several of them and they were all amazing. I review a lot. Not only negative ones, I also rate 5 stars when my experience is positive and Exit 1 would have been one of those 5-star reviews had the manager not been so rude. So 5 stars for the staff, 0 stars for management = 2.

Well. Here we are. Another bad review for Exit 1 Storage and James Mitchell, the manager who is…read morefriends with the local U-Haul owner with whom he contracts. Which makes him above any disciplinary action. Here's hoping this review on Yelp can help convince you to take your business elsewhere. James Mitchell is a volatile and unhinged man. Wildly unprofessional and dangerous to both himself and to others. When I took my roommate to Exit 1 with the intention of renting a truck for a few days, James Mitchell asked him for another contact number. He didn't make it clear why he needed this number, but my roomie looked to me and asked if I'd be all right giving mine. I was. I gave it. James Mitchell inputted my number into his terminal. That wasn't the end of it. No, James Mitchell insisted on calling my number. Not knowing if it was a cell phone number or a landline and not asking, he dialed. I asked him if he was calling and, if he was, why. He informed me that he needed to verify that it was a legitimate number. Folks, I don't appreciate being called a liar. I was doing this man a favor. I didn't need to give my number. I wasn't there for anything. I told him the number was mine and he could stop now. He didn't stop. "I need to know it's your number," James Mitchell repeated testily. I replied, "It's mine." "I need to hear it ring." "You won't. The ringer is off." Then, I heard the ring in my headset. "There it is! You're calling me. See? It's mine." "I need to hear it!' Wow. He was angry. Angry? Why? Huh? "No, you really don't need to hear it. I just told you." "Then, I need to see your phone!" "No, you really don't. I just told you." "Show me your phone!" "That's it. I'm done." I excused myself, forthwith. With a few choice words, admittedly. I'm not really interested in being interrogated. Not by anyone, least of all by this slob slouching behind his monitor. I had no dog in this hunt. I was not there to do any business with anybody. I was just dropping off my roommate and decided to be on my way. I left the building. Headed to my vehicle. Inside the office, James Mitchell fumed. "I need to go out there and make sure he leaves my property!" How do I know he said this? My roomie was there and watched him waddle out. As I approached my truck, James Mitchell bounded after me shouting, "You get off of my property! You're trespassing!" Gentle people! This is a Stand Your Ground State! Under no circumstances is it wise to interfere with someone who is legally permitted to be on the ground upon which they stand--I had every right to return to my truck without being assaulted. And make no mistake, friends, this WAS assault. Assault is defined as intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. This is what James Mitchell did. James Mitchell of Exit 1 assaulted me in the parking lot. He was both threatening and offensive and he was coming right at me. I had left the office. I was well on my way. This was not enough for James Mitchell. No, James Mitchell had his pride to save! He was unhappy I had not taken his bullying well. So, he had to come out and dish out some more. I faced him. Instead of ending him, I told him to go back inside and get back to work. He threatened to call the police. I gleefully encouraged him to do so! I'd planned on pressing charges if he had. He did not call the police. He then proceeded to taunt me. Yes, he did! I stood my ground and again ordered him to return indoors. He finally did. I got in my truck and resumed my departure. Back inside, my roomie reported, James Mitchell called to one of his workers to come out with him to physically eject me and went back outside with his cell phone held up to record video, which I witnessed in my rear-view mirror, as I was already on the road. Here's the fun part: James Mitchell stormed back inside and then angrily told my roomie that because of my behavior, Exit 1 was done doing business with him and would not be renting him a truck. My roomie protested that this was unfair. That he had done nothing. That he needed a vehicle to go anywhere. James Mitchell did not care and now told him to get off his property, which my roomie did, James Mitchell not knowing whether the man had a way to get back home or anywhere else since I had been his ride and had gone. I later picked up my roomie and found a U-Haul staffed by professionals who treated us like the decent human beings we are and he got his truck and we learned that James Mitchell is universally despised and I wrote this review to make it clear that while James Mitchell might be friends with the owner, he is not above the law, and he is not above losing his business to better people. Need to find a fantastic U-Haul in Morgantown, West by God Virginia? Check out the Neighborhood U-Haul Dealer on VanVoorhis road! Great selection! Great prices! INCREDIBLE SERVICE WITH A SMILE! And no assault.
