I began to see Dr. DelMedico over 10 years ago. I am a psychologist so I do have knowledge of the area. Anyway I moved to Florida a year ago and found a new treater. Since Dr DelM touts herself as a expert in alternative treatment I recently tried to reach her to ask a question about a new compound that is reported to have good results for my illness. Not only did she fail to call me back, which I found to be rude, but the staff there continued to mess up on the content of my messages, assuming I wanted to schedule an appointment when all a wanted was a mere CALL BACK. In my years of seeing her, both in person and virtually, she was ALWAYS at least 30 minutes late. read more

My Doctor Preitos-Hicks has positively saved my life. Because of her years of "sticking with me", I have a retirement that Is so balanced and normal. It has taken years to be where I am today. I know that I should not look back, but I wish that I had found her forty years ago when I was struggling to raise my children. Severe major depressive disorder, sleep disorder, attention deficit disorder. All under control. Such a brilliant , outstanding, lady. Patience and endurance, was, and still is; her miraculous gift to me. read more

I had a really negative experience with the billing office at Central Ohio Counseling. I was charged significantly more for a short telehealth visit than I had been used to at my previous provider, and the bill was not itemized. They were extraordinarily difficult to reach by phone (I must have called ten times before I got someone) and when they did answer, they were unable to explain the charges. There were two separate charges and I was told one was for "an office visit" and one was "an add-on code." I asked what the add-on code was for, and they would only say "the doctors are allowed to use that add-on code." The conversations I had with the billing office were all unpleasant and all took the same tone of "you'll pay us what we tell you to pay us and not ask questions and you'll like it." Thid group has given me nothing but stellar treatment for many years. Specifically, Dr Preitos Hicks has taken the time to thoroughly understand and evaluate me. I've been to many many places over my lifetime, but never had the thorouj treatment that I've had I have experienced. Dr. Hicks finally at my 70 years figure out the root of my problem su h a patient and compassionate human being. Also kudos for her great office staff. read more

I have seen both a psychiatrist and therapist here. The front office staff are pleasant and the providers really care about the patients.

PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. I found this place when I needed an appointment quickly to work on my mental health and they got me in within a month or two (pretty good for a mental health office) to see a therapist (you talk to a therapist first then you schedule with a psychiatrist). The therapist didn't seem to really dig deep into what was going on with me and neither did the psychiatrist I was scheduled with (Dr. Prieto Hicks). Dr. Hicks couldn't even distinguish who I was or what medication i was taking/have previously taken half the time. Wait time was always at least an hour and I felt like I took steps back while receiving treatment here. PLEASE STAY AWAY... there are way better doctors out there. read more

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've given this place my money every few months for YEARS. They are honestly one of the least professional organizations I've ever interacted with, especially considering the delicate matter at hand (mental health). First things first, the actual office is dingy, with worn carpet and a nasty, arthritic dog that wanders around, leaving a trail of stink behind it. My doctor was Dr. Furuta. While the actual interactions I had with him were always pleasant and low hassle, he was nearly always running at least 10 minutes late for a 15 minute appointment. Other than that, I wouldn't have minded continuing to deal with him. Unfortunately, his office staff is just clownshoes. They're disinterested, unhelpful, slow, and sometimes downright rude. Part of this, I expect, is a result of being short staffed. There are probably around 6 doctors in this office, yet they sometimes only have one person manning the front desk to handle incoming calls AND help patients who are checking in, paying, scheduling, etc. You can stand there in line and listen to the phone ring at least 20 times before the frazzled worker picks up the phone and asks the person on the other end to hold. I was able to tolerate this until I started needing to interact with them more. About a year ago, Dr. Furuta had to take a medical leave of absence. I assume that this was unforeseen, as he had appointments scheduled for the time that he was out. So, if your appointment is cancelled, you'd think maybe the office would, I don't know, maybe CALL THE PATIENTS TO TELL THEM? Nope. One by one, we showed up faithfully only to find that the doctor was NOT in and wouldn't be back in for a while. I made the mistake of believing them when they said they would call me to reschedule my appointment with another doctor. After waiting and watching my medication supply dwindle, I started calling. It took 3 calls before they finally called me back to schedule. At this point I should mention that I'm on antidepressants that start giving withdrawal symptoms about 48 hours after your last dose. The clock is ticking. I showed up on that date (my medication completely gone by that point) and was told that there must've been some error with the calendar, as my appointment was nowhere to be seen. Frustrated, I scheduled AGAIN for a few days later and finally was able to get my prescription refills on my third visit. Oh, did I mention that they forced me to fill out a whole "new patient" packet for my new, temporary doctor? Dr. Furuta finally came back, and while I was very very frustrated with the whole ordeal, I thought it was past us. Until it happened again about 6 months ago. I will say that things improved a little, because this time they had a robot call everyone and let us know that the appointments were cancelled. However, they once again lied about someone calling in a few days to reschedule an appointment. I waited a few days, then started calling, again watching my medication supply dwindle. Call, leave message, wait. Call, leave message, wait. Eventually, I left a message in which my voice cracked and I got choked up because I was so frustrated and going through withdrawals. This FINALLY prompted a response from his admin who called back, kind of apologized, and said she'd call in a refill even though she wasn't supposed to because I hadn't seen the doctor. What. The. Hell. At least my desperation is only from withdrawal from antidepressants. I can't imagine how some of the other folks coped who have more serious mental health issues. I struggled to cope with this and I consider myself pretty highly functional. I waited to write this review until I was able to finally find a new doctor. While I highly doubt that COC's staff care what people think enough to read Yelp reviews, I didn't want to sabotage my tiny chances of getting things rescheduled. I have never been seen on time. The shortest amount of time that I've ever waited to see Dr. Martin was 15 minutes- and that was after I had complained the previous visit. I am so tired of sitting in their office waiting to see my doctor. The receptionist does not care about the patients and seems bothered any time someone inquires about anything. When I brought my wait time to their attention two visits ago, I was informed that it is normal and expected for COC's patients to wait anywhere from 20-30 minutes before being seen. I've waited for over an hour a couple times. The average is 40 minutes. The lack of customer service is ridiculous. My doctor, Dr. Martin, is a very nice man. By the time my appointment actually starts to when I leave, it only takes about 15 minutes. It is the wait that gets to me. The wait, & the fact that the staff doesn't care that I have to wait. read more

Truthfully, I don't know why there are bad reviews for this facility. Perhaps, it was past issues, that have been worked out since or a conflict of personalites. Either way, for therapy in any capacity to be beneficial there has to be a level of chemistry between therapist and patient. That said, I have been going to Central Ohio counseling about two months on a weekly basis for anxiety/PTSD. All the receptionists have been very pleasant and warm to me. The office is a bit outdated but, at my visit last week they said they would be remodeling during the holidays. Though I cannot speak for other doctors or therapists atthe facility. I can for the two I engage with. I see Scott Wolfe for therapy and Dr. Edan Gilat is my Psychiatrist. I'll start with Scott. He initiated my intake appointment and I make it a policy to give therapists a try to see if they are a good fit for me. (I have seen therapists who were not.) Scott listens well and is non-judgemental. He retains details about his patients which I would guess can be a difficult task considering I have issues remembering simple things sometimes. He has shown to be unassuming and insightful. Scott has shown he is consistent in his moral compass. Most importantly, through my sessions with him I have come to my own realizations about myself, my thought processes, and ways to help manage my panic attacks. I don't know why, but Psychiatrists make me nervous initially. Perhaps, because I feel there is rarely a balance with the analytical side of a person who studies neuroimpulses and human behavior and their capacity for emapthy. Likely, it is my own misconception. Either way, Dr. Gilat balances both in spades. He is both intelligent and compassionate. I liked him almost immediately and felt he did have a good grasp of how my experiences shaped me as a person. He was kind and assertive when it came to my mental needs. I truly feel he is a good fit for me. I would truly recommend both Scott Wolfe and Dr. Gilat to my friends and family. The two "downsides" I can say for the facility is that i couldnt get a receptionist on the phone directly via the number online. Instead, I had to leave a message and it took two days before someone called me back for the initial intake appt. The secons thing is that it takes a while to get the initial appointment and spots fill up quickly with both my therapist and psychiatrist so you have to schedule several appointments ahead so you can consistently be seen. read more

No. No. and NO! All started out well. As these things usually do. However, due to me not being able to afford medications that were over $200 (with insurance) Dr Gilat decided he didn't feel "comfortable" prescribing me anything else since so many things hadn't worked in the past. Ummm what? Isn't it YOUR job to find something or a combination of somethings that work because, well I can't? So instead you kick me all up UNDER the curb to go through all kinds of horrible withdrawals and leave it at that. What kind of doctor does that? The kind I won't be going back to. read more

I was worried after reading some of these reviews after making an appointment, but I think things have changed for the better. The waiting area was comfortable, the office staff was friendly and professional, and the counselor I saw Scott Wolfe was very good. I can't address the psychiatrists or medication issues, but if you are looking for counseling I wouldn't let the bad reviews here dissuade you. read more

THEY LITERALLY CALLED THE COPS ON ME because I was sitting and crying in their lobby after trying to explain the issues I had trying to fill my prescription. I have been without my meds for 4 days now, completely unacceptable! They didn't even bother to listen to the message left by my pharmacy. The women who dare to call themselves "professionals" even made a point to include that I was wrong and that the whole situation was my doing. The old lady with the blonde curly hair that called the cops on me actually interrupted me when I was speaking with the police officers to spout off false information about my medication (invalidating me for explaining that I was going through withdrawal). They even laughed at me as the cops showed me more compassion than anybody in that terrible place ever has. I am traumatized and I don't want anybody else to have to go through this. read more

My experience with COC was good (Dr. Furuta) and bad (billing dept.) First, Dr. Furuta worked his ass off. He worked late into the evening, before and after holidays, and pretty much right up until his death. He was proficient and professional, and when asked, he'd share some nuggets of information, be it travel-related, medical-related or horse-related. We would discuss the effectiveness of certain generics (not the panacea we're led to believe) and that there's quite a leeway allowance concerning their closeness to the brand they're replacing. Really, there's a pulitzer waiting for some investigative journalist willing to research generics. The visits were usually under 1/2 hour and, for me, he'd log notes on papers he'd place in my file. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get my files, as i could not afford the price I'd have to pay for the copying. However, they did say they could fax my files (it would be several pages) to a doctor of my choice for free. I thought that was strange, but that's their policy. I read some gripes about the reception "situation" and yes, at times it was frustrating because either no one was there or they'd ask for a payment that was incorrect. And, when I mentioned this continual discrepancy to a member of the billing dept, I was told they were aware of it, but I don't know if anything was ever done about it. About the billing...keep careful watch that everything is submitted and paid correctly. In 2013, there were changes to the coding (went from one code to two) which led to many frustrated hours of me going over my bills with my insurance and with COC. What was puzzling was that I discovered this from a customer service rep (value options) a few months into the year after seeing some inconsistant payments for the start of the year. So, she suggested I have all the claims reprocessed to make sure they were paid correctly. Since I had a $500 deductible combined with medical, and my medical provider didn't always have my latest ACCURATE deductible amount, it was a nightmare keeping track, especially when I got close to meeting it. When I viewed my history for 2013, I see that one claim was submitted 6 times! Seriously, I spent way too many hours trying to sort out the mess. Whenever I talked to COC's billing, I always felt bad for them because I could see the piles of paperwork all from different insurances and then there's all the online submissions as well. I always wondered if others had the same problems as me as far as the coding update debacle and inconsistent billing? Or was it just my dumb luck? I dread going to another office now because I fear I'll run into similar problems/inertia. For the amount of money spent on healthcare in our country, I'm surprised more people aren't up in arms over its dismal quality. Now, that's enough to make one depressed! read more

This facility is like a puppy mill. You meet with a "counselor" who provides a diagnosis after 10 minutes of talking, then you have to wait a month to meet with an actual psychiatrist for a prescription who doesn't listen to you any way. They also didn't reference any previous history provided by my actual therapist that I had been seeing for 3 years! For example, my family has a history of substance abuse. Central Ohio Counseling was my first attempt to possibly receive medication for the first time in my life. The results? I was prescribed ativan 2x a day. Not only that, but the RX was written for 30 days and my "follow up" wasn't for 3 months. Which means had I actually taken this crap, I would have been addicted, and without mediation in just a month. When I called to alert the doctor of the error, no one responded, no one replied. read more

I've been to COC twice now. The first time wasn't terrible, I was seen quickly but the waiting room was dim and uninviting. I was seen in March for an evaluation. My real psychiatric appointment couldn't be scheduled until the end of June. I arrived 15 minutes early to my 9 am appointment, as is customary when waiting for a doctor's appointment. I was checked in quickly. At 9am another patient came up to me and told me she was seeing the same doctor as me, but her appointment was made for 8:20. The doctor called her back shortly after, but an entire 40 minutes late. I ask the receptionist if there was a time mix up. She brushes me off and says I'll be called back next. More waiting... until 9:20 when a man goes up to tell the receptionist HIS appointment with the same doctor was for 8:40. She checks her calendar and tells him HE'LL be called next. Finally the doctor calls him back, shortly after he leaves, and then my turn. This doctor's first three appointments of the morning were 40 minutes late. How does that happen?? Incredible. read more

I've had so many issues with this company , billing being one , the appearance of the place , is a mess , every time I go there my allergies go crazy , it smells old, wet and moldy . In the beginning , I went there because my Dr.retired , I saw Dr.Furuta , a very long time ago , really liked him , he wasn't taking any patients at the time , I was referred to Dr.Churchill, that was the most unpleasant lady I've ever met , she was really a mean person, she was rude,mean and just plain a difficult person to have as your Dr. She once told me to have a few cocktails to help me sleep, because she doesn't think sleeping meds are good. Not a good experience , not only that but she would have me write out my scripts , then she would sign them . So I see a new Dr. , Dr Naderoff , really nice, seems to listen and care , but his secretary , I've had more problems with this lady, Candy ,the pharmacy has problems with her as well.ive tried to leave messages for my Dr. , I've never received any calls ,messages . I have to wait 3 months to go in there to have my meds written out correctly , the Dr. Had made some mistakes when completing the scripts , the pharmacy won't fill them , when I call the office, they tell me I need to speak to his secretary , she has been very sarcastic , rude, and appears to not give the Dr. Massages. I'd love to find a new Dr. , it's been nothing but a headache , any suggestions? read more

Results trump Wait: If you have a a fairly straight-forward diagnosis, maybe the wait, decor, and pooch aren't for you. If you have 1) looked everywhere else, 2) have been continuously misdiagnosed, or 3) have sampled the modern, managed care, cookie cutter approach to medicine and found it did NOT work, check COC out. They personalize care -- so they do run late if a client is in crisis. Having tried many of the other firms in town, COC is simply the best at getting results. read more

Never, ever return phone calls from other health care providers. I came in to the office one day to see how busy the receptionist was as she never returned phone calls and I observed her for 45 minutes doing nothing but collecting co-pays from patients coming into the office. Lazy staff personnel. Never return phone calls. I would never recommend this facility to my worst enemy. read more

COC has greatly improved with the termination/elimination of the Lalonde "Poison" that devastated the COC for a number of years. Dr Furuta was a very competent, compassionate, and skilled physician who was beloved by so many. Fortunately, the addition of Garas definitely filled a long lasting void and the detrimental element of compassion that seemed to be missing for so long at COC, most notably absent during the Lalonde years. Dr. Garas is an excellent listener, compassionate/skilled doctor, moral human being, and a very delight person. read more

I have been going to this practice for several years. My Dr was Dr Lalonde (who i found out is retiring in a few months. Yes, I agree the wait room can and has been abysmal at times. They DID get rid of that horrible receptionist... I don't usually have to wait more than 10-15 minutes for my appointment. Yes, I admit you're in and your out in under 10-15 minutes tops... The copay is good, it's not far from work/home. Dr Lalonde finally got the right diagnosis on me, and after changing meds a few times, we finally got the right combo to help me. I DO however - completely agree with their voicemail system. It's about impossible to get a hold of a live person. But, I will continue to go there.. read more

I have been a patient for almost 2 years now. My rating is based on 3 areas that I feel matter most to me. The 3 stars go directly to Dr. Theodore Shannon, my therapist. Dr. Shannon is the ONLY reason I continue to go. He has more than bent over backwards for me, always willing to squeeze me in for an appointment- or stay late to see me because he's had a full day. My insurance company requires a ridiculous amount of paperwork and he's always on top of it. He's very caring and a great listener and offers great advice. The two blank stars - the first one goes to the front desk. I already have severe anxiety and absolutely hate being in public, so when my account balance is discussed, in detail, in the middle of the waiting room of people- the embarrassment makes me dread walking in. The other- the pathetic phone system. I don't have time to go into the horrid details, but it is the worst system I have ever dealt with. PLEASE FIX!! read more

Thank God Dr. Lalonde is no longer practicing at this horrible place. Dr. Furuta was the best but our experience with LaLonde and the billing/receptionist areas are appalling. Don't ever expect help if you need to reach them. They promise to return your call within 2 weeks, but I've waited up to 3 months before ever receiving a call back. I agree with those who say this place needs to be avoided at all costs. COC is truly representative of what is wrong with the world of mental health in this nation. read more
