I am very disappointed and angry with CMP. I have called and emailed multiple times. I have asked to speak with their board of directors as well. They refused to give me any contact information. My daughter moved into a home in January of this year, when she flew from Oregon to Maine to live with her father. Prior to January, they were living in my home under my care. These young girls are not seasoned renters; they are barely adults who were trying to build a relationship with Liliana's estranged father. What followed was a tragic and destabilizing series of events. Her father was arrested in March for domestic violence, and his wife moved out shortly thereafter. My daughter and I were both assured by him that he would continue to cover rent and utilities, as they had only just arrived. However, after his arrest, the court barred him from returning to his home. My daughter was a witness in the case. Since then, they have been left alone to manage the aftermath of his legal and financial abandonment. They are not responsible for the electricity as they were living WITH others. They are not responsible for HIS bill. All previous usages should be billed to the account holder. Especially since they have been told he was going to court to come back home. These young women are now scraping by with minimal income. I'm helping them as best I can with food and gas, but they simply cannot afford to be saddled with someone else's unpaid utility bill, especially one incurred before they ever moved in. But CMP put all of the usage in their name and now have slapped them with a nearly $400 bill! I asked CMP with sincere urgency and compassion to waive or remove the back charges from their account. They are not the account holders for the period in question, and holding them responsible for his bill would only further penalize them for circumstances they never asked for. They did not care at all and basically just shrugged their shoulders and said, "Oh well." If anyone has the board of director's contact information please send them this review. If only you could leave zero stars. I have never dealt with such an inept power company. Their systems are antiquated and constantly down. Their brown outs cause damage to electronics and their employees are slow to respond to power outages. As a result, I'm going full-solar just in order to keep from freezing during the winter. Do yourself a favor, don't move to Maine. Do yourself another favor and don't ever become a CMP customer. I must also mention the 40-50% rate increases while the service goes south. read more

My name is Bob . And I live in Scarborough last night. We lost power for several hours and I just thought it was time for CMP to have some praise considering how many complaints they it was the hottest day of the year, think that these people didn't outstanding job considering the amount of damage that they had to repair and a short amount of time to make sure that everything was up and running for the rush-hour. Of course, my wife and I were miserable with a lot of other customers, but can you imagine what these people were going through doing repairs in this heat? Last Dec when we had the wind storm a tree broke in half and it was huge,I couldn't get anyone to help cut it down and I had no power for 2 weeks the line was down and so finally CMP came uninstalled the line,I had power,Now for a year and 1 month that tree was still untouched,Last Wednesday I noticed another branch leaning on the wire but a different tree,I called CMP a man came out quickly he trimmed what was leaning on the wire and it was dark, he saw that huge tree and told me he would put in a order at the Brunswick arborist,I didnt think he really would they all said that, Monday 8am a tree arborist arrived looked and left two hours later the CMP guy that came Wed was here with 9 others and took that beast down! Below is a photo of me in my house in East Deering. Sunday December 6, 2020., after a "storm" in East Deering with the power out. It's been out for 12 hours. Look at the CMP website snd it says "assessing the problem." Every time there's a storm the power goes out in East Deering. Here's my assessment: update the power infrastructure. You guys are like Ralphie's dad in "A Christmas Story" either losing the fight against the furnace or blowing out the entire house because you jury-rig stuff on the Christmas tree lights. From October to April, the power has been out at least 6 times. there were outages even when it wasn't snowing. the response times and transparency are among the worst I've ever personally experienced since traveling the east coast. the infrastructure in Maine is fucking embarrassing. yet gov mills has no issue pumping our tax money into free housing and rent for non American citizen. it's a disgrace and I hope a tree falls on her house read more

This is my 3rd call to Central Maine Power and I've been on hold for 40 minutes and counting. On Saturday their trucks were on my property to do maintenance work, which they didn't tell me about, and when leaving they drove into a pole and knocked down wire, including internet. They also didn't tell me about this. Now I am trying to find out when the pole will be replaced so I can have the internet reconnected. Seems simple, right? BUT, trying to get a date for this to be done is impossible. Of course, with power companies there is usually not an option to use a different company! Well, I did just speak with somebody and she said that she couldn't tell me when the pole, which they knocked down, would be replaced! Unbelievable! read more

I live in southern Maine, but am helping my mom clean out the house she's living in up north. The power went out for three days, I went up there on the second day and it's well below freezing in the house. My mom is struggling to start a fire, I help her out and we manage to do this, note: she is seventy years old. Check the website and find out they are turning the power on at eleven thirty at night that night and there's 1200 people in the county with no power. We call at 10:30 pm, at this point we're wrapped in blankets and sitting close to the fire. First thing we're told is that we're not even registered to have the power turned back on. after demanding to talk to a customer service representative she says and I quote: "It's too dark and dangerous for them. They might get hurt in the woods, there are a lot of of power lines and trees down in your area." (There wasn't) and we could get it back on at NOON tomorrow. Oh yeah, all the people working on the problem were out of state and weren't tracked on what they were doing. Most of the trucks we saw were at hotels and pubs along with diners. All night we stayed up and kept the fire going. I got a cold and my mom nearly collapsed that night. I also nearly fell down the stairs a few times stumbling in the dark as the batteries ran out of the lanterns and we saved the emergency lights for getting wood. My mom called the manager in the morning (he was sleeping in his nice warm powered house the night before) and threatened to go to the news at eight thirty the next morning. The manager panicked and while she was hanging up we heard the CMP truck. Ten minutes later we had the power. terrible service. read more

We lost power for 18 hours earlier this week. I get it - it was very windy. But here I am sitting in the dark AGAIN, with no lights other than candles, my refrigerator heating up and food going bad again, etc. I know they will tell me that's the price you pay for living in a wooded, rural area, but they have to know that if they don't maintain the growth near the power lines, this is going to continue to happen and they will have displeased customers like me writing reviews like this. I am not referring to a specific incident at this time from any particular CMP, but the propaganda I am some damn sick of hearing/seeing on the television ads as they try ad naseum ad infinitum to redeem themselves, which isn't possible. Mainers, this time around, are not going to fall for, I'm hoping, this feeble attempt to white wash themselves, and I am betting they don't have as short a memory as one would hope i.e., December 15, 2021. for the fourth year in a row, CMP has been ranked dead last in a national survey of residential customer satisfaction for electrical utilities. And let us not forget the debacle that transpired in October of 2017 when they doubled, tripled and quadrupled customers' and non-customers' bills in an attempt, in my opinion, to recoup their losses. It would have worked, too, if it hadn't been for Channel 13's success. First they said it was because of the exceedingly harsh winters, then it was their billing system which, in the beginning they stated was working perfectly. read more

CMP has a billing issue, but refuse to admit it. Smart meters are sending erroneous usage. Several calls to complain resulted in excuses. Glad to see the Public Utilities Commission involved. Thank you to the local News stations for hearing our concerns. We need to gather and rally against CAMP and let them know that we aren't going to stand for this. read more

If you're looking to move to Maine for rustic, off-grid living, but you're afraid that having power will be too much of a convenience, you don't need to fear! So long as CMP supplies (or claims to supply) power to the state, you will never have to worry about having consistent power for your home. Once every few days the wind will blow and your entire streets power will shut off for a minimum of a few hours. And if you're looking to get updates on how long you can enjoy the off-grid lifestyle, CMP has a live website which will approximate the time until power is restored to your area. Simply take the estimated time to power restoration, given on the website, and add about 16 hours, that's when you can expect to be interrupted by the annoyance of electricity once again. During the winter however, there is almost a guarantee, provided by CMP, of no electricity. The slightest accumulation of snow on the lines will shut those pesky light bulbs off. It feels great to not have to worry about the gas bill, since the heat in my home won't kick on without power supplying it. And hot water? Who needs it! With CMP you can almost experience what colonial Life was like, of course you'll have to pay for this service monthly. read more

Worst company to deal with. I received several letters from the director of Customer Service Rachel S. Grenier, stating my last two payments were returned by the bank and they will no longer accept checks from me. Checked with my bank and no checks were returned and Central Power said my account is paid. That is when I received another letter from Rachel Greenier demanding payment. I mailed to Rachel a letter asking why am I getting these letters from her. I included copies of my cancelled checks along with her letters. I received a letter from her today saying she tried to call me. No response to my letter to her. OUTRAGEOUS ...how does she keep her job...Director of Customer Service...absolutely horrible. read more

My family has a summer/fall house in Maine and we use CMP. We had a bad storm last month and we lost power. It took CMP about 10 days to get it back on. It sucked, but we aren't there full time so it's not a really big deal for us. The reason I'm writing this is I have tried to call the customer service line about 5 times in the past month (because of the outage going on for so long, but also with a question about my bill). Each time I was told - by a robot - that they were really busy and please try calling back later. Huh? No option to even wait on hold? No way to leave a message? So, I finally tried emailing. No surprise, it's been about 4 days and still no response. If I was treated this way by National Grid where my primary residence is, I'd be going ballistic right now. I've called your automated number, reported the outage online, and the only update you can give me is that it's snowing outside? I can look out of my window and see that it is snowing. Thanks. For nothing. Your customer service (or lack there of) leaves a lot to be desired. This is unacceptable and quite honestly unbelievable. I promise to continue to update these reviews each time my power goes out. Let's count CMP. Can't wait. There's absolutely nothing I'd rather do right now than write this review. Seriously.
