DO NOT SHOP HERE! These are not gun people... they're retail sales people at best. Store has serious issues with knowledge deficits, QC of products sold, and absolutely zero integrity as far as backing up the products they sell.
I had initially went into this store, which I do not normally shop at, because it was 5 minutes away from my work and I needed a set of iron sights installed on a new Glock slide, as my iron sight tool is currently on loan to somebody and I wanted to get some range time in with it that day to start mating non-native parts. I asked the kid at the counter if he knew how to put iron sights on, was told yes, and gave them to him to install while I waited. While I was in there looking around I decided to bite the bullet and make a new purchase as I had been trying to decide on a new home defense set up for a while anyway. After looking at a Gen5 G19 And finding that the grip still did not fit my large hand/fingers and just didn't feel right for a self defense scenario, the guy working at the counter showed me a preowned G45 (non-MOS) that felt great. I had very intentionally asked him if they performed an inspection and functions check on pre-owned firearms that they took in and was told yes. I told them that I had a brand new Gen5 G17 MOS that I wasn't really using and asked if they were open to a trade. Was told they were but would require addt'l payment, which I understand as they are a business, need to pay background fees, processing, etc. They offered to trade the gun + put the iron sights on for my G17 + $100 which was obviously a great deal for them but I still agreed to because the 45 did already have FO night sights ($100) and I just wanted something that would actually see use. They then charged me $125 which I didn't even realize or notice until later when I looked at the receipt, which turned out to be ~$150 after tax, fees, etc..
Fast forward 2 days later when I made it to the range. First, I was shooting the custom G43X that I just finished building and it was functioning flawlessly from a mechanical standpoint... until the front iron sight of my new AG Spartan set flew off of it. Luckily, I was able to see where it landed and somehow found the tiny bolt on the firing table so I wasn't out the $110. On inspection, it was quite obvious that the kid who installed it did not even have the requisite knowledge to use Loctite on a damn iron sight, as there was not a trace of it on my sight post. Unfortunately, that was the least of my problems that day.
On to the G45; It had been stripped, cleaned, and oiled the night before and had no overt, visible issues. Next day however, I didn't get 5 rounds downrange before the first FTF, with the slide locking up tight. Cleared the malfunction, fired again, didn't make it 3 rounds that time. Changed the magazine out for a brand new gen 5, and 3 rounds later, same issue. Changed the ammo from WWB 124g (first suspect) to CCI blazer 115g; same issue. Changed to another new gen5 magazine from a different box; same issue. Changed the ammo to AAC 115g; same issue. After inspecting the rounds, they were all coming out with huge dents at the top of the casing, even after cleaning and re-lubing the feed ramp. Had a gunsmith do a quick visual inspection, he fired it, he tried switching out ammo/mags, all with same result. He was quite certain at that point that it was a mechanical failure with the firearm.
The next day I go in to the store to tell them what happened. They offered to take it in and "have someone take a look at it for me". I explained that I was really not comfortable with a Glock that was defective on day 1 as my home defense firearm, and would prefer to swap it out, offering to pay the difference for the same one NIB. They flat out refused, citing the known federal law as their protection against having to take a return in. When I calmly explained that I understood the federal law quite well, but was expecting that they would just want to make it right, being in the shooting community, being that they were well aware that I am a wounded combat veteran after the other shop employee had been talking to me and asking me about my military service, and because they obviously got the better deal. He leaves to "talk to the owner" and comes back a few minutes later and tells me that the best they can do is give me $400 store credit 72 hours after buying it. While this was clearly absurd, he had initially tried telling me that they were not going to take responsibility for it whatsoever other than "having someone look at it", so I didn't really feel like arguing and getting stuck with a non-functioning firearm. They did have a NIB G45 in the store which I opted for, at an additional cost of $200 with my "store credit".
So all in all, I'm now out a brand-new G17 MOS + $350 + extra trip and time wasted for this + another trip and the $ to have the iron sight remounted on my G43X correctly, just to get a properly functioning G45. read more
