Yelp Review 2025 #161:…read more This market is pretty big and clean inside. Outside is kind of a different story. There are homeless people that would try to approach you and ask you for money but don't fret, the police is everywhere so they leave you alone. It has everything from cheeses, cold cuts, fruits, vegetables, desserts, olives, pastries, pastel, Brazilian souvenirs, alcohol, spices, candy, fish and seafood, Persian food, meats, etc. There are food stalls, snack shops, bars, and restaurants inside the market. There are plenty of ATMs but most shops take credit cards. The market itself is open daily from 6am to 6pm. Individual shops may have different hours so check before coming here. It's been open since 1933 as São Paulo's main grocery store. High ceiling means it's cooler and has more ventilation. Don't forget to look up to see the stained glass windows.

Just grab a seat and someone will bring you a menu, order and the food will arrive quickly. I visited a couple times because it was close to where I was staying. I only tried the Lanches Pernil, once with the queijo Minas and once plain. One thing I want to highlight is the homemade hot sauce. It takes the sandwiches to the next level.

I can't find any complaints with this place other than it is very very busy! It takes over 15…read moreminutes to get somebody to pay attention to you, despite there being a buzzer on your table, which apparently means nothing! Haha. It's like being in a bustling diner/ deli/ market, the black and white checkered floors reminiscent of an 80's diner! The food is largely Italian style and the pasta tastes fresh and local made. Mainly tagliatelle, which is my preferred pasta, so I am very biased there! The people are very warm and friendly as I have found people in São Paulo and in Argentina to be! I just wish I could take the Latin America warmth and friendliness and sprinkle a lot of it in Connecticut, liberally!!!
