We went for Easter dinner…read more The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. It feels like you're outside, but you're enclosed in glass. They have a nice wine store too. The couvert had eyedropper of lemon oil which was interesting. The bread and accompaniments were tasty. I would recommend the couvert. The appetizer was a tuna tartare. It had dill foam in center which was refreshing, interesting and tasty. I really liked the dish. Both the octopus and then Bacalhau with passion fruit crust and lagostim were pretty good. I preferred the Bacalhau dish as the flavors went together nicely. The dessert was a disappointment to us both. The description completely misrepresented the dish. It seemed interesting but turned out to just be a slice of cake with a scoop of ice cream. The service was poor as well. The servers seemed super distracted. Overall - the food was great, but service and dessert were poor.

I've been watching renovations on a wonderful old house in Pompeia for the last few weeks. I think…read morethat the renovation will be sensitive, preserving the old building and enhancing its character. There is a "Grand Cru" wine store in front and, though its not well marked (yet?), Ecully is in the back. It's a hidden gem. I even had to add it to yelp. A neighbor told us dogs are welcome and, as we were both hungry and walking our dog, we decided to check it out. Wow! There's a huge hidden garden behind. We ate a fine meal under a huge mangueira (for a whole lot less than it costs to eat under a huge figueira) For $R65 I ate three wonderful courses plus starters, coffee, and a nice glass of Argentinian wine. A huge selling point is that the wine list is extensive and reasonably priced, relying on the wine shop in front to supply bottles without a markup. It wasn't a drinking kind of day, so I settled for a single glass and took a bottle home to enjoy later. Since I moved to Sampa a few months back, I've been enjoying drinks and food presented simply. But it was a real pleasure to have a real napkin, a proper wine glass, and the kind of service & presentation I'd expect in New York -- if I paid 3 times the price. I'm giving bonus points because this place is close to home, but it may be a trip for a lot of folks. But I'd say its worth it. More bonus points, they brought our dog water in a pretty bowl. Next time, I'll go in the evening, meet friends for a bottle or two of wine. If I leave the dog at home, maybe I'll sit inside. I noticed a bottle of Laphroaig on the bar as well...

This place is well decorated and it has a nice vibe, you will be able to have your meals and talk…read morenicely without too laud songs in the back. It is a great place to take a brunch, the artesanal breads are super tasty and all food look like special to take a picture. During weekends probably you will find a line to get a place inside but you can take home everything we find in the menu.

If it were not for the serendipitous meeting my wife had in the US with one of the owners of this…read moreplace, we wouldn't have found it. It is reviewed in other places, and given my penchants for Yelp, I wouldn't have clued into this place, and this would have been most unfortunate. First, the culture around bread and certainly food in São Paulo is serious, and there is a "padaria" on many corners, and it is likely you are not staying anywhere near this place. This said, I will tell you now it was worth the Über we took there, and Über did find the place by name quickly which was nice, rather than having to place the address in manually. Signage is clearly marked, and similar to the color seen on the website, which is underwhelming as far as websites go. Being on the corner, it was easy to navigate a drop off and pick up safely. I am guessing you are not brave (read "louco") enough to rent a car and drive in São Paulo, although there may be parking at times within walking distance along the street if you did. Unlike many places in São Paulo, this place was designed with several small seating areas and thankfully this was one place where one could actually hear a conversation and feel relaxed rather than the normal hustle and bustle of restaurants here. You would think that because we showed up later in the day (around 3 pm) that the bread would have been baked earlier in the day, but this place makes small batches all day, and our bread to go once we were done was fresh from the oven. My wife Andréa had a "suco de tangerina" (freshly squeezed tangerine juice) and I had my afternoon "cafezinho" (a double espresso) to go with our charcuterie board of salumi, local cheese, and a country loaf with black sesame and oats and a purple sweet potato loaf, accompanied by lovely balls of cultured butter and a passion fruit marmalade. To top things off, I had been looking for a fair trade whole bean Brazilian coffee to take back home, and there it was sitting on the shelf for sale at a reasonable price. https://www.vitalecafe.com.br/. The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable and clearly showed both a pride in their product and a confidence in their excellence. There is no question it will be a future Über ride with others there in the future.
