It's located on the grounds of Richmond High School and previously served as the high school's gymnasium. It was renovated in 1993 and has a seating capacity of 616 on the Main Floor and Boxes and 312 in the Balcony and Boxes. Civic Hall Performing Arts Center has the look and feel of a high school performing arts center and serves the community quite nicely by providing a decent sized venue for educational programming, local events, and regional acts including the Henhouse Prowlers show I was able to see. Despite spending several years in a seminary in Richmond, I'd not gone to Civic Hall until recently. Accessible parking is available at the entrance and exit of the circle drive in front of Civic Hall. There's also accessible parking on adjacent streets. It is important to note that accessible seating is only on the main floor - there's no elevator in Civic Hall and those with mobility issues would not have access to balcony seating. According to the Civic Hall website, "Civic Hall has wheelchair accessible seating located on the main orchestra floor on each side of the main seating area. Booster seats are available for children at the box office. For hearing-impaired patrons we offer infrared listening systems at the box office. Please alert the box office as to any special needs at least two weeks prior to the event." I'm always impressed with performing arts centers in smaller cities and towns. You can get season tickets for the Civic Hall season with prices ranging from $110-$155. That's a pretty awesome value. Richmond also has quite a few motels/hotels and can be easily accessed off I-70 for those who see a regional act they'd like to attend. While I wouldn't consider this a destination performing arts center, it's a comfortable and quality performing arts center for those in East Central region of Indiana. While there are some accessibility concerns to be found here, with appropriate planning individuals with disabilities should easily be able to enjoy the show.

Admission passes were reasonably priced at $25 for both days or $15 for a single day. However, if you choose to pay by card, tickets must be purchased through Eventlink, which adds an extra service fee and makes the cost slightly higher than paying cash on site. They provided a QR code at the entrance if needed. There was a paper schedule to follow all the teams and game times throughout the tournament. The lady collecting admission was friendly and welcoming, which set a positive tone upon arrival. The games were played in the gym which is called the Tiernan Center. There was plenty of seating and good visibility from most areas. Since the tournament took place during the weekday, the venue was not overly crowded, making it comfortable to watch the games. Parking near the gym entrance was somewhat limited, but there was an additional parking lot within a short walking distance, which was convenient. The restrooms were clearly marked and easy to locate. They had plenty of stalls. Concessions were available, though it's important to note that they only accepted cash. This venue provided a well-organized and comfortable environment for a basketball tournament, with friendly staff and adequate amenities for players and spectators alike.

Bethany is located on the…read morecampus of Earlham College, though it is somewhat set apart and facing National Road West (also known as US 40). It is directly off the highway. Bethany is a seminary associated with Church of the Brethren, a historic peace denomination in the Anabaptist tradition (think Friends/Quakers, Mennonites). As a seminary, Bethany has existed since 1905, however, it has only been in this location since 1994. Bethany is fully accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and the Higher Learning Commission. Bethany offers an MDiv, MA, MA in Theopoetics and Writing, and an MA in Spiritual and Social Transformation. They also offer five graduate certificates and a non-degree track. Bethany is a relatively small seminary with usually about 100 active students. While it is a Church of the Brethren seminary, it is definitely not exclusive of other denominations. Church of the Brethren members, however, do definitely benefit from strong financial incentives for attendance. Bethany offers both a residential program and a program called "Connections," essentially a hybrid program in which participants have mostly online courses with occasional hybrids. Generally, you won't graduate from Bethany with an exclusively online program - however, you can definitely do the majority of your academic program online with occasional weekend intensives (some courses also have a 2-week intensive). In terms of the actual campus, it's pretty accessible. Bethany has automatic doors and ADA compliant restrooms. The building has an elevator to the second floor. Earlham is a bit less accessible. Housing can also be an issue - nearly all of the housing provided by Bethany would not be considered accessible (housing is fairly limited anyway), however, there are some hotels in Richmond that offer accessible options. I've generally found the staff to be very open to dealing with accessibility, though there are some ableist attitudes. I know of at least one blind graduate who did find a ministry placement post-graduation. I'm a wheelchair user and have had multiple interim church placements. I attended when the Connections program was fairly new and it showed. I always felt like the distance learners were sort of second class citizens, though the situation has improved dramatically from what I've seen and heard. I also felt like there were times communication with distance learners was weak and disappointing. While my overall experience was positive, I have zero hesitation in calling it 4-stars instead of 5-stars. Bethany has partnerships with multiple other seminaries for cross-credits and moving into doctoral programs. These include Christian Theological Seminary in Indy along with Payne Theological Seminary and United Theological Seminary among others. Overall, I think Bethany Theological Seminary is one of Indiana's best-kept secrets for theological education. While I had some modest concerns about administrative processes, I learned a lot and have valued my education here and the relationships that were formed.

Getting to the Earlham College Athletic and Wellness Center was a bit challenging, even with GPS, it wasn't the easiest place to locate. There is a parking lot available, but with the tournament going on, parking spots were pretty limited. Luckily I found a spot not too far from the entrance, I'm not a fan of the cold weather. Once inside, the facility itself was nice and appeared clean and well maintained. The gym was spacious with a good amount of seating, which made it comfortable for families and spectators to watch the games. I also appreciated that the scoreboards were located on both sides of the gym, making it easy to follow the action no matter where you were sitting. One downside during this visit was the concession situation. After being there for a couple hours, I went looking for a snack but couldn't find the concession stand. I asked a worker sitting at the front desk labeled "Information," and he let me know that concessions were closed. There were vending machines available, but unfortunately, nothing that peaked my interest , so I ended up not getting anything. As someone visiting from out of town for a long tournament day, this felt a bit like a missed opportunity and a small disservice to guests who rely on food options while attending events. This facility works well as a tournament venue, but improved signage, easier access, and having concessions open during major events would really enhance the experience for visitors.
