I have been a patient for CPC for over 20 years, contacted the North Augusta CPC to change doctors due to living in North Augusta, was told I could not change, when I inquired why, I was informed that is up to the doctors, they do not take transfer patients, only new patients, I stated I am a new patient from a different office, was told very rudely sorry that is up to the doctor. I Will be finding another doctor, leaving CPC after 20 years! The doctors that I have seen for the last 6 years doesn't seem to want to take time to talk with your or care really about whats going on with your health anyways, they just open their computers type some answers in and leave the room. read more

Dr. Jimmy Hewitt, Centers for Primary Care, North Augusta SC, has been my primary care doctors for about 6 years. I thought it was odd that when I arrived for my annual wellness check that I was asked to sign a form stating that if you and the doctor covered any topics outside of a wellness check that you would be billed for that. I signed it and didn't give it another thought as I no new issues to discuss. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill. I called the office and asked why I had been billed when my insurance covers annual physicals. I was told by the staff that the doctor had asked about things outside of the scope of an annual exam. I asked what and was told that it was related to my sleep apnea. I was astounded as I have had a CPAP for maybe 4 years and I have a pulmonologist and Dr. Hewitt asks every year if I am still wearing my CPAP. My response, yes. How the heck is that yearly simple question and one word answer the requirement for an additional office visit charge. I relayed that to the office and requested they talk to the doctor about this. Never received a call from the office; however, my access to the portal was deleted a few days later and in about a week or so I received a certified letter stating that Dr. Hewitt had dismissed me as a patient and I had a month to find another doctor. As a follow-up I called the office and told the staff about this and the person said that Dr. Hewitt had not put a reason for my dismissal in my chart. Just the facts. If you don't want to be dismissed maybe don't question a charge. read more

Patient for a vey long time. Used to get blood work results back in a few days.The line to call in for the results tells uhey have not been posted after 6 weeks. Some will not pass information to other doctors in dfferent field. Example: Blood test will not be passed on to Cardilologist from another office. Have asked number of times, because Cardi0. doctor needs to check them. Was told last time that "It is very difficult to remember at 5:30 am." Seems to just get you in for your five minutes and out the door. read more

Should have read reviews first. This is the worst doctor's office I have ever dealt with. My Dad is in the Department of Labor program and his previous doctor retired, so we decided to use Dr. Jimmy Hewitt. My Dad seen the doctor for the first time in August and his home health care nurse has been trying to get his his Letter of Medical Necessity for Benefit Reauthorization signed since then. After I started calling the office and could not get anybody to return my phone call, I went by there for several days. When they were tired of dealing with me, they told me there was no Authorization To Use and Disclose Protected Health Information form on file ( which I filled out, along with all the other paperwork prior to his first visit), and they could not tell me anything. After calling corporate and speaking to the office manage, Dr. Jimmy Hewitt did finally sign his letter and then they called my Dad's nurse and told her, not me. My Dad is almost 83 years old, and if it takes two months for a doctor to sign a letter with no explanation as to why it took so long, I certainly don't want him responsible for his health issues. Needless to say, my Dad will not be seeing Dr. Jimmy Hewitt again and I would NOT recommend this office at all...not sure what kind of operation they are running, but be prepared to get the run around if you go there. read more

The WORST practice ever! Going to the doctor first is not an easy thing and then with someone who has medical issues and has moved across country, finding a primary care physician is the worst. Enter Center For Primary Care. To become a patient with them, you have to audition and apply. So here is how the process goes. You share your soul and tell them everything that bothers you...then they shop you to your choice of physician. That physician then has the ability to refuse care to you or as they put it "they are not able to take you on as a patient.." REALLY! I am so flipping glad you all are not the Urgent Care or ER Associates because countless people would die trying to be "good enough" for you to accept them as a new patient. When i told a local that i was in this "application/audition review" she told me of the horror story her mother had of getting black listed from these locations. Now her mother is probably no angel but I doubt she did anything worthy of being booted off Center for Primary Care's island. Compound this with the fact they denied my husband too after he has scheduled an appointment.....just disgusting. Thank you all for placing even more discomfort and anxiety into the "doctor's" picture. You all are holding up you Hippocratic oath smashingly! read more

The visit with the physician was ok, however, talking with the staff and their billing department has been awful. Below were the issues that I ran into. -The office requires your medical history and paperwork before they will consider you or even make an appointment. After talking to the office, they said that they take most people, just not a rare few with certain conditions that they cannot support. -The original appointment time differed from the time the office sends a text reminder. They do this so people can get there early to fill out paperwork, however, we had already done this because they would not make an appointment otherwise. I sat in the waiting room for an extra half an hour after I checked in. This was time lost I could have been working. -I had to push that I knew my insurance. They requested the $55 twice as I told them my insurance has a standard copay. Ultimately they said that I probably knew my insurance best and they would bill me any remaining amount. -I saw Dr. Embry and she was caring and listened for a physical and another issue. However, as I got my bill it seemed that I was billed twice for a physical and an office visit. (My insurance would cover only one per day, so this is obviously an issue for me.) I have never had a physical that you couldn't ask any questions without being billed. -I talked to their billing department as soon as I received the statement and they said that they would check with the office and get back to me. A week later and no call, so I call back. Talk to another person and they said that they had already talked to me about the issue. I honestly gave up and just paid the difference as I'm losing time with work calling and going to the office. If this is how my initial visit went, I would rather go to urgent care for an issue before coming back to stress over the insurance, billing, and my time again. At least I know it would be cheaper at an urgent care. I was just looking for a new primary care center after moving here, however, this is not the place to be. Changing a doctor is very difficult, especially if you have had great services in MUSC. I was very dissapointed and in fact I wont come back to this place. My doctor was Doctor Embry. I was expecting a doctor who cares about my problems. The whole 15 min visit and $725 went as the following. She came with a computer lab, placed it on the small desk, and started filling out my answered questions. Every time I started to tell her about my health problems, she cutted me off. She seems to be in a hurry with no time to listening about my health problems. Later, the doctor came back, gave me a shot and I left. After that, I went for the follow up visit. The greeting was a not to happy person with a bill of the "unpaid" portion. I could not believe my eyes. For a simple shot, Dr. Embry charged me $250 on top of the $50 for the shot itself. The other portion of the bill was for the 15 min visit. I complained and asked for the "account manager". I told her all about the first visit and how abusive the charges were. She told me that the doctors are the ones that give them the codes for charging the insurance. Finally, after that, I canceled the follow up visit and wont ever come back again! read more

After reading the reviews for the Center for Primary Care, I was skeptical at best. But, having attempted and failed to get an appointment at essentially every other doctor's office in North Augusta, I gave CPC a call. Let me tell you, this is easily the best doctor's office that I've ever dealt with. I literally got an appointment for the very day that I called. The office personnel were caring and willing to put in the extra effort. Dr. Hewitt spent time getting to know me and my needs. On top of his first rate bedside manner, that man is knowledgeable beyond the common doctor. My scrip was filled that very day. Since then, my scrip was on backorder through multiple local pharmacies. After advising CPC of this fact, and without me asking them to, CPC searched other pharmacies and found one with the meds on hand. I cannot recommend a doctor's office more than CPC or a doctor more than Dr. Hewitt. I generally don't make a habit of seeing docs regularly, but based upon the level of care received at CPC, this could change. read more

Rude and completely unprofessional I arrived to my appointment 30 in advance and was called the time of my appointment. When I get to the window the lady says she cannot find me in the system for my insurance I call my insurance and they say I'm in there I try to get them to speak to the dr.'s office and the staff refuses and calls the office manager. Who takes 45 minutes to tell me she fixed it and I have to reschedule and at this point the next time they have is 3 weeks away seeing as I just rescheduled for a month away. I think this is probably the worst dr.s office I ever went to I would rather spend all day at the dmv instead of going there read more

Agree with Susan S. Who has ever heard of an approval process to see a new doctor. Really?! I guess I'm lucky.. My husband was told they needed to be sure they could treat him because he has a pre existing condition... T1D. Last I knew, diabetes isn't that rare.. Then the wait. It was absurd. After an hour and a half I complained and fixing to leave.. Then he miraculously appeared. Saw me- a new patient for 5 minutes. Felt like a number. Took over a month for my husband to get an appointment even though we told them he needed a new script for test steps & insulin because he was out. Very uncaring & elite there. Appointment with Dr Hewitt..I was looking for a new family physician as mine is in upstate SC...After going through a very long process (calling one day, coming in next day to give my information to them, leaving, then they called me & gave me an appointment)...I saw Dr Hewitt & told him of my medical history, surgeries, etc & reason why I take the meds I do take & am prescribed (I had already given that information in writing on the process to see him)...I needed my anxiety & depression meds as my doctor at this time is unavailable..I had a doc to prescribe my pain medicine & could not give prescription for others.. filled it the day before my appointment with Dr Hewitt..I did not tell this doctor that, but he never gave me a chance to do so..I simply told him the meds I was taking...He left & they took blood & urine specimen..Then the office manager came in & dismissed me..She said I just got my pain meds filled...I knew that & was not looking for another prescription for that medicine..Anyway, long story short, I was then dismissed without the doctor even having the courtesy to talk to me about it...I would have told him, had he inquired...But no, just basically "kicked me out" & made me feel like a criminal or something...So, no, I would not advise anyone to go to Center for Primary on Hugh St in NoAugusta... read more

I had a very good experience here. Yesterday was my first visit at this practice and the first time seeing a primary care doctor. I am 19 and up until this point, I had only seen my Pediatrician and my OBGYN. I saw Dr. Embry because my grandmother told me that she saw her and that she really like her. So I took her recommendation and made an appointment for an annual checkup. When I arrived, the women at the front desk were nice, they took my insurance and my $55 charge for not having met our deductible (which was fine and expected). They got me checked in and from then, I waited. I was only sitting for about 5 minutes before Dr. Embrys nurse came for me. She weighed me and took my height and blood pressure. She was VERY sweet. Then she told me the dr would be in soon. And she was! I was only in the room alone for about 3 minutes before Dr. Embry walked in. I felt very comfortable from the beginning and she was very welcoming. We went through history, my personal and family, and she did a full work up. She didn't seem in a rush like many doctors do and I could tell she genuinely cared and took her time reviewing me. I was very thankful for this since many heath issues run in my family. Everything (thankfully) checked out and I was sent on my way after being talked to and seen for about 25 minutes by Dr. Embry. While I cannon vouch for the entire office and all of its doctors, everyone who helped me was very nice and the staff involved with Dr. Embry was more than helpful, as was she. I will be back next year for my next annual check up :) read more

My brother and I have only been going to the Center for Primary Care for several months. The doctors are very thorough and I have never met a staff member who wasn't very nice, especially Bonnie who went out of her way to help me get medical records and send messages to the doctor. The only problem we had was that after we saw Dr.Suykerbuk several times, he moved to Grovetown. We liked him so much that we drove to Grovetown to see him but then he changed his hours to only morning. He recommended Dr. Jester in North Augusta who we thought was just as thorough. My brother has many health problems. We would recommend anyone going to this center. read more

The wait is really long. It is sometimes hard to get an appointment when you need one. They schedule too many patients at the same time. If you have an issue after seeing the doctor and need to talk to them, it's next to impossible. Messages have to go through the office personnel and the phone calls back and forth can take a week. I like my doctor but it's hard to get an appointment unless it's scheduled six months in advance. If you want to have another doctor have your records it's not allowed and they dismiss you, even if it's not a family practice Doctor. I asked for my records to be shared with an internist and also a doctor who could see me same day when I'm ill. CPC at that point will not see you anymore. They are taking over many doctors offices.
