Stair case to go up and down the sink hole (cenote)

Beautiful! Great place to visit while in Yucatan, its a bit hidden and not as big as other tourist areas but its better! They offer life jackets for those who dont know how to swim. Its a long talk done to get to the sink hole but inside almost looks like a cave with water. Definitely was one of my favorites! They have changing rooms and restrooms both very clean. The water is refreshing after long walks in the hot Yucatán state end it coming here. They have ladder areas on two sides to exit the sink hole as well as a rope going across for if you want something to hole on too !

    easy to find.

Not a lot to add that others haven't already said. Adding my 5 star rating in hopes others will take the time to go visit them. Pros - Super close to Coba Super cheap Super close to two other cenotes - you get to visit all three for a couple of bucks UNDERGROUND! Stair case is in MUCH better shape than some of the other cenotes we visited. Save area, nobody messes with your stuff Not over crowded like cenotes that have bill boards on the side of the road. Cons - None, nada Summary - Rather than be a chump and get bused to the over visited tourist trap cenotes you can score huge and v

Cenote Tankach há - Clear water

This Cenote is an easy drive after a hike of the ruins at Coba and should not be missed. There is…read morenormally a platform where you can place your belongings, but on our trip this was under about three feet of water. The workers here are stationed right at the parking lot, so you can leave your belongings in your car without worry. If you do take your car key with you, be 100% sure that you don't lose it (like some other visitors during our trip did) because it will not be able to be recovered depending on where you drop it. Be ready for the water to be cold! The water is very clear so you'll want to bring swim goggles or a dive mask with you, if not a snorkel. The more adventurous can jump off the platforms along the spiral staircase into the water. Apparently life jackets are available if you're not a strong swimmer, but I didn't see these when we first arrived, some other visitors had them on as we were leaving. There are bats living in the stalactites , as well as small fish in the water. You will be required to take a shower before going into the cenote, so don't bother putting on any makeup, sunscreen, insect repellant, hair products, deodorant, etc. before you go in (seriously, please help to protect the ecosystem here!). I'm knocking a star off because there are multiple cenotes in this area and as you drive up to them, there's a station for temperature checks and to pay a per person fee (100 pesos/head if I remember right) before heading further up to the parking lots. Once we got to the parking lot though, we were asked to show a ticket before we were allowed into the cenote. However, we weren't given a ticket. We then had to argue with the worker in the parking lot that we had obviously already paid because otherwise we wouldn't have been allowed to continue up to the parking lot.

I forgot to take pics of the food at the latter, but I highly recommend. The cenotes near Cobá cost 100 pesos/person (17.75 exch), and are well worth it. The water is crystal clear and refreshing after climbing to the top of the pyramid. In addition, the sight inside in pretty cool as you look at these natural swimming holes. If you are really brave there are two diving platforms. The top one is 25 feet high, and the lower one about half-way. Sorry, but I'm not from Acapulco so I didn't indulge. There are many cenotes in the area, but our tour co Xcursion307 was able to give us private transportation for four, and we weren't on a schedule. I highly recommend them for transportation to/from the airport, as well as for any sites in the area.

You then drive down a long private road to the parking lot and the cenote's entrance. After you park, an attendant comes to your car and punches a hole in your ticket(s), while giving you instructions to take a shower before heading down into the cenote. My issue with this place is the long flight of VERY SLIPPERY, wooden stairs leading down to the cenote and the terrible customer service, if you want to even call it that. My son slipped on the stairs on the way down to the cenote and fell on his back, hitting the back of his head. While he was screaming and crying in pain, none of the attendants came to help. My sister and I were able to calm him down and help him back up to the car. I ran into the attendant who had initially punched my ticket and told him that we needed to leave and asked for a refund since we hadn't even been there for 10 minutes (of which, 5 were spent trying to calm down my son), let alone visit the cenote. He pointed to the front entrance and told me to talk to the employee who took my money. As we drove out, I relayed to the employee at the entrance who had initially taken my money, what had happened and he told me no refunds. I told him that I needed to take my son to the hospital to check for a concussion and he shrugged his shoulders and told me it was "impossible to refund." Granted it was only 300 pesos for us to enter, but for me, it was the principle. This privatized Cenote makes $$$ from tourists like my family and they can't even invest in anti-slip grip tape for the wooden stairs?! They even have signs warning that the stairs are slippery so it's nothing new to them that their stairs pose as a potential hazard. Today's events showed me that the owners of all these tourist attractions only care about one thing...taking your money and NOT about your safety or experience. I will never be coming back to Coba's cenotes and I strongly caution you about the stairs at Cenote Choo-Ha so that a similar accident doesn't happen to you or your loved ones if you do choose to visit.
