Honestly, we've had ups (5 of 5) and downs (3.5 of 5) as far as service and product goes... but, I can't say enough positive things about their employees. Andrew, Dan & Paul were friendly, helpful, and always have a smile on their faces. They made shopping here easy. Kudos to the three men, Paul, Dan & Andrew.

This was my first and likely my last trip to Gillis Home Hardware. The staff in the store part were…read moresemi friendly and I quickly got a sheet for a box trim to be picked up in the yard. From here on out was just horrible. There was this man named Earl working and he took my sheet to get my order. From the start he was grumpy and mumbled. At this point I have to mention that I am a 27 year old female. I asked if he needed help, he says no and starts going on and on about how women shouldn't work in wood yards. After he spilled the trim everywhere, I helped him pick it up and pointed out it was the wrong stuff. He then starts saying "You don't know nothing about anything out here", when I replied I probably know a lot more than he thought, his response was to quiz me on where I'd find certain items in their (messy) garages. So when I said I had never been here before so of course I would not know, he again started saying "See, this is why women can't work in wood yard, they don't know anything" There was no joking tone plus I caught him checking me out and staring at my boobs often. I felt absolutely gross and belittled. I have never had such rude and sexist service before. I do not recommend women to ever visit this store. Plus the store is very old, dirty and chaotic. Stay away.

Something that interests me since I'm into building science and involved in my own 2,350 sf, 4 bed, 3 bath, two fireplace, 4 skylight, tons of door and windows, 1953 ranch house remodel. It's my second property and I'm doing much of the work myself... Hundreds of decorative moldings, special orders of doors and various surfaces, my juices are flowing. And IF they don't have something, rest assured you will be quickly directed to someone who does. I stopped by to ask about continuous linear eve vents for a project and was pointed to someone in town who had them in stock. Scratch that essential element to my project off the list. Using advanced energy improvement principles, all of the cladding (brick, wood) is coming off of this house. I'll be using house wrap, Rock Wool Insulation, foam board and turning it into a Yeti cooler and some of their products are going to help! There's a vast yard of products on hand and a showroom for the "Hearst Castle" in you....if that's your style. There's a lot of history here and a large, knowledgeable staff to help you move things along. I appreciated their help and always get my juices flowing here. Gary is one of our favourite persons to work with. His professionalism extends beyond his job description. Gary has proved that he has strong ethical standards when approaching his clients. We strongly believe that Gary will make a great impact for himself and for Oakhurst Rock. We made several trips to the rock yard before making our decision(s). The men were patient with us and assisted us whenever we have questions. I witnessed that they treat every customer with the same professional attitude. While we were there, I also noted that Gary (who's in a senior position now) mentors his junior team members while keeping their client's best interest first and foremost. The day of delivery was exciting to us. Steve made the delivery. Steve listened to our needs and was equally patient while he assisted us in maneuvering a 742-pound rock in position.
