In 2020 Mr. Larry was a pleasure to work with, and he provided all the requested information, patience, and honesty when we initially started our lease. Over the course of the last three years, we have been very satisfied with all services provided by Lincoln of New Bern. Then it all started to unravel once I returned to the dealership to purchase the vehicle. I had informed Mr. Andrew that I was going to buy out the lease and would not be requesting any financing. I also requested that the vehicle be picked up and serviced before I purchase it. However, once I arrived to pay for the vehicle, (May 12, 2023) I was informed that my vehicle was not there. This resulted in a great deal of confusion on the way forward. Initially, I was told that I would have to wait until my vehicle was there or come back another day. I explained to them that this was not practical, as I live south of Jacksonville and would like to pay the agreed-upon price specified in my lease, and they can return my vehicle once it is done with its service and the required inspection (even though I had the vehicle inspected in February of this year.) I did not understand Mr. Andrew's role in the purchasing process. He ran back and forth to the sales manager multiple times when in my opinion he was not needed in this transaction. I was also frustrated that I was asked for my social security number even though I had expressed that I did not want to finance this transaction. After around two hours I paid for the vehicle, conducted all required paperwork, and left with the understanding that my vehicle would be returned to me on Monday the 15th due to the Maintenance Department not working on the weekend. On Tuesday, May 16th around 1600 I called the service department to discuss the status of my vehicle. I was informed that their vehicle inspection "machine" was not working and that they would need to retain the vehicle until it was fixed. I did not think much of this (as I assumed they were waiting for my check to clear prior to returning the car) requested any update they could provide, and to be kept in the loop as they worked through the issue. I never received an update and found myself in a loop of calling the service department every afternoon on my way home requesting an update. This continued until Friday the 18th. I was frustrated as the funds have been deducted from my account and the vehicle was still not returned. I returned to the dealership and expressed my dismay to Mr. Josh; he was very professional and seemed interested in hearing my concerns and was eager to return my vehicle to me. That night I received my first call from Lincoln of New Bern's Maintenance Department. I was informed that they are having issues getting the state inspection done due to me already having it done in February. I expressed my frustration and told them that that was not an issue as the vehicle is already legal to drive and that I want my vehicle returned to me. Upon completion of the conversation, we agreed that the vehicle was to be returned to me on 23 May. However, on May 23 my vehicle was not returned. At this point, I was extremely frustrated and returned to Lincoln of New Bern and spoke with Mr. Josh. I applaud his patience again, as I know I was frustrated and had to be difficult to listen to. He was very professional again but was adamant that my spouse told him that she was picking up the car. Having not been a part of that conversation I could not confirm nor deny the accusations but was confident that her agreeing to drive to New Bern made zero sense as she would be at work during the agreed-upon pick-up time. Mr. Josh informed me that he would look into the phone call as all are recorded, and told me I would get my vehicle first thing in the morning. On Wednesday 24 May 2023, I was in possession of my vehicle. Conclusion: I am extremely disappointed with this purchasing experience. Buying a car (even one I have driven for three years) is exciting. I found this whole process draining and downright unsatisfactory. What was done well: Although clearly frustrated, Mr. Josh remained professional and presented himself in a manner that appeared concerned. What can be improved: Sales need to be prepared for buyers. I did not feel like Mr. Andrew was as prepared as I have experienced in previous vehicle purchases. I typically do all I can to minimize my time in a dealership and I have purchased vehicles from other dealerships in the past in under an hour. The maintenance department needs to better inform customers what is going on with their vehicles. Their actions or lack of action directly affect what customers think of the individuals who sell them the vehicle.

Every time I asked to see the service tech video of the the problem I was told the "system is down". I asked that the video be msg to my phone. They would not send it. Went in for oil change on my GMC Terrain. Was told there was a very slight drip from transmission and that it needed to be repaired before it got worse. Service writer said it is probably a seal. Even though I had never seen any evidence of fluid leaks on the floor of my garage where the car lives, I said fix it because I did not want to have an expense down the road. Service writer also said to get it done before the 3 year bumper to bumper ran out so the cost would be covered by the warranty. Sounds like it made sense. The "repair" was made. Unfortunately I noticed transmission fluid on my garage floor the very next day. Took the car back to Trent. Service writer said it may be a transmission case but this time they fixed an axle seal. The axle had NOT been leaking before they "fixed" the transmission "leak. Next day I again noticed new transmission fluid on my garage floor. Took the car back to Trent. Service writer said it was probably the transmission case warped. They worked on the car again. By this time I was completely unhappy with the Terrain and the dealership service center. I did research and saw that the terrain and other GM products had an ongoing problem with transmission leaks. I got the impression that the Terrain was not a reliable car for my wife to drive anymore. Decided that I needed to trade it in and by a more reliable vehicle for my wife to drive. This experience cost me thousands of dollars. I have a gut feeling that the service writer and dealer service center (because of their sloppy repair) screwed me royal.

She called Kia and after speaking to the receptionist was forwarded to a voice mail in the service department. She left two messages but no one ever returned her call. After some the car just came back on but it was not the first time this had happened. Fast forward a week - I made an appointment with the service department, describing these symptoms and the more disturbing recent symptom that the car had on two or three occasions just 'reboot' momentarily and during that moment, lock the steering wheel while driving. I explained that we needed a loaner car and was assured that we would have one and they would confirm the day before. Since we never heard from Kia of New Bern yesterday, my wife called on her way to her scheduled 9am appointment during her 40 minute drive to confirm the loaner car and was told they had no loaner car and were not aware that we needed one. This is just awful service. This is an issue that should be a priority. This is our first Kia and we are certainly reconsidering our purchase.

It is their financing policies that I base my review on, and potential buyers with less than perfect credit need to be aware of this. I took my college student there to inquire about a specific car that was listed for about $7K. We were told by the finance manager that it would be hard to get financing for it various reasons. Then we were showed another used car that cost a little more but seemed reasonable and well cared for. I made it abundantly clear that we wanted price and payments to be below a certain figure and that, while her credit history was excellent, her credit history was less than a year. Okay, not a problem we were told and she should qualify. Then they came back to tell me she would actually need a co-signer and could I co-sign. I made it clear that due to family matters beyond my control, my credit score suffered and it was only 'fair', so I did not think I could help her qualify. Again, not a problem we were told. What they did not tell us, however, that they would run SIX (yes six) hard inquiries on both of our credit reports. I did not find this out until after we left - when they asked me to come back with proof of income (I receive automatic credit report notifications). Obviously, this had a negative impact on my credit score, which I made very clear I was working to bring it back up. We NEVER provided authorization to run both of our credit reports SIX times. They had authorization to run it once through their dealership. Had I been told they would run multiple hard inquiries, we would not have agreed and would have just left. After realizing what they did, I went in to complain to the Sales Manager, and he informed me that this was 'standard practice' with auto loans. Well, if that's the case, then customers should most certainly be able to choose whether or not they want multiple hard inquiries on the credit report - especially those who do not have perfect credit and are working to bring it up. It's called informed consent. After speaking with the Sales Manager and politely explaining my discontent over what was clearly poor sales/financing practices, I was later contacted by another Sales Manager and told that they were able to offer financing. However, I responded by stating I wanted to know the precise terms for the car we looked at before we went any further. Then I was told that the car was no longer available but that we could come in and look at other cars and then terms could be discussed. We declined and opted to go somewhere else where there was more transparency. Kia of New Bern is part of New Bern Auto Group and has several dealerships in New Bern. It's motto is "We don't sell cars - we help people buy them." Based upon my experience, I disagree.
